ROBIN HOOD'S BAY
Advantages: Beautifully preserved and evocative
Disadvantages: STEEP
...I've always wondered why Robin Hood's Bay was in North Yorkshire and not in Nottinghamshire. One explanation might be that Nottinghamshire, being landlocked, is not over-endowed with bays. Another is the sheer logistics of moving it from one county to another.
Robin Hood's Bay is around 5 miles south of Whitby, and some 15 miles north of Scarborough on the North Sea coast of North Yorks. I've researched a little, and I can find no explanation of why this place has such an interesting name - it doesn't matter anyway.
There are records dating back from 1536, apparently, of a small settlement of around 50 houses and 20 fishing boats but nothing about its namesake. Besides, the locals prefer to call it Bay Town.
There may be some tenuous connection to the 'Prince of Thieves' though. Fishing has always been the mainstay of this...

Robin Hood, Robin Hood Riding through the glen..............

Robin is being held prisoner by the Turks but his friend Azeem helps him to escape. The pair team up and make their way back to England where Robin is faced with his land being taken over by the Sheriff of Nottingham, who is trying to overthrown the King. Robins search leads him to find his father murdered and their butler without eyes. Robin soon discovers that all this happened because his Father refused to stand with the Sheriff and give him his land.
Robin soon sets off to find his childhood friend Maid Marian with the hope that she can help him get his land back and finally take down the Sheriff but he soon learns that Marian cannot help him. Robin now decides that he will go to Sherwood Forest and start his campaign. It is here where he meets Little John and befriends him and soon he is introduced to...

My New Addiction - Robin Hood?
Advantages: Dramatic, Good Acting, Fantastic Soundtrack, Brilliant Plot!
Disadvantages: Would have loved more Special Features :(
...been solely addicted to the series. So it was fantastic to see that the BBC has released the series in DVD form. I knew I had to be the first to get them and eventually ended up buying all of Series one on DVD. This is the first DVD of three on Series One of the show.
General Story Of Robin Hood.
Now if you don't know this already then you either have had your head buried in the sand or just don't get out very much. However it is defiantly worth mentioning the general story, as you are then able to compare it to the BBC take on it.
Robin of Locksley (Robin Hood basically!) arrives home from the Crusades in the Holy Land to find his people starving, cruelly treated and heavily taxed under the oppressive rule of the new Sheriff of Nottingham. Robin finds out that the only way to reason with the sheriff. However this means him being...

Robin Hood mixes comedy, romance and action
Advantages: Great stuff
Disadvantages: A few errors, but nothing major
...a bad thing. The cheese evokes feelings in the audience, and each time I watch it I really get involved, and am constantly glued to the screen from start to finish. The good blend of movie disciplines does this, in particular the comedy from Alan Rickman's Sheriff of Nottingham. The actor has rarely done a finer performance in my view.
KC is marvellous as Robin Hood, with his American accent you could just see him coming from Nottingham! But seriously, this aside, it's a very well acted part that Costner has taken with both hands and really remained in our minds. When people talk to me about Robin Hood, his is the face that pops into my mind.
The remainder of the cast does very well. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio is sensual yet strong as Marian, and Slater does well as Will Scarlett. There are some good roles for Michael McShane and Brian...

Robin Hood, Robin Hood riding through the glen
Advantages: easy to find
Disadvantages: prices
...When my friend came to visit me from Austria, I was a bit stuck on things to do, and places to visit, as I'd never properly explored Nottingham. But of course, we had to see some of the Robin Hood sights! So off I went to the tourist information centre, and picked up every leaflet going (most of which ended up in the bin!). I needed somewhere cheap and easy to get to. Unfortunately Sherwood Forest was out of the question, no car and lack of info on public transport there. Suddenly out of the corner of my eye I spotted a voucher, buy one adult ticket, get one free for the Tales of Robin Hood! We had initially ruled the place out as the entry is a tad expensive, but with this voucher of course we'd go!
It's really easy to find, on Maid Marion Way, just off the Market Square. I would suggest public transport to get there as it is close...

Visit Robin Hoods Bay, a quirky picturesque village just outside
Advantages: Outstanding scenery, themed weekends, friendly locals, sea air!
Disadvantages: Absolutely none - oh the hill!
...all year round, as well as Hotels, B & B's and a small holiday park in hawkser, just a few minutes drive away. We always book the same cottage year in year out, and we feel just as welcome each time we go.
What to expect:
As I have mentioned, Robin Hood's Bay is a small village, what I haven't mentioned is the extremely steep hill you have to walk down to get into the main part. There is a very small car park at the top of the hill, with no more than a hundred spaces, and if you are staying in a B & B in the lower part of The Bay, don't expect a parking space, the majority of these B & B's are down tiny little passageways with the only access by foot. You can also enter the lower part of The Bay through the scenic route, taking you directly onto the cliff face and down a small walking trail. I advise going down the main hill to get to...

Robin Hood Prince of Films
Advantages: A Great Film
Disadvantages: What Disadvantages?
...Well this film has to be one of the best around. I apsolutely love this film and this new special edition really adds to the experience. Crammed full of special features I can watch this film over and over again.
--- Brief Synopsis ---
The story follows the traditional story of robin hood, which if you haven't heard it (where have you been if you haven't?) is as follows. Son of a rich nobleman (Robin of Locksley) returns from the third crusade where he has been fighting with Richard the Lion Heart. On his return he discovers that the evil brother prince John (later king john) aided by the sheriff of Nottingham has userpt the throne, he has also excommunicated Robin's father. Finding no friends in enlands nobility he is force to flee into Sherwood forest where he meets and joins a band of outlaws. He then wages a guerrilla war...

Robin Hood: Men In Tights
Advantages: Funny, has Cary Ewles in it
Disadvantages: Random at parts
...Robin Hood: Men In Tights, is one of my favourite comedy movies. First because I love Robin Hood, and second because I love Cary Ewles.
The story is about... Robin Hood, and everyone should sort of know that story. Except that it has a twist, it is a spoof movie. It is directed by Mel Brooks and stars Cary Ewles, as the famous Robin Hood.
Robin Hood as usual robs from the rich to give to the poor, so with the comedy spin off, Robin is doing just that. While getting the attentions of the beautiful Maid Marian played by Amy Yasbeck. With the artful music of the merry men (they do a little song and dance).
Mel Brooks completely turns the story upside down adding comedic value to it. Such as adding a blind man as one of the merry men, and having his house pulled away like it was on wheels. Or one of my favourite scenes, which is...

A Fantastic Flying Finale For Our Hero Hood!
Advantages: Fantastic Acting, Drama, Stories, Action, Fight Scenes, Romance and Price
Disadvantages: Difficult to understand if haven't watched first volumes.
...episode of series one and since then have been COMPLETELY addicted to the series. So it was fantastic to see that the BBC has released the series in DVD form in 2007. I knew I had to be the first to get them and eventually ended up buying all of Series one on DVD. However I can guarentee you when you buy them you will want to move on straight to the second series as it becomes very addictive viewing.
The Famous Story Of Robin Hood
A lot of people think of the generalisation of the story, men in tights robbing hte rich and giving to the poor. And the hero gets the girl. However as the series on the BBC shows there is a lot more to this. Robin of Locksley (Robin Hood) arrives home from the Crusades in the Holy Land to find his people starving, cruelly treated and heavily taxed under the oppressive rule of the new Sheriff of Nottingham...

REASONABLE ROOMS IN ROBIN HOOD'S REALM
Advantages: Good food, good location
Disadvantages: Rooms can be a bit tatty
...a particularly good position, because it really is very close to all the different locations. A short walk across the main road will bring you out in the middle of the city centre, where you can find all the shops during the day and all the pubs and clubs by night. Nottingham Castle is within walking distance from the hotel, as is the Tales of Robin Hood Museum – an interactive tour of Nottingham’s history. The National Ice Arena and Trent Bridge Cricket Club are also both close by.
ARRIVAL
The hotel itself is quite a strange building in that it seems to perch on the side of the road and towers upwards rather than outwards. This is evident as soon as you walk in, because the ground floor contains only the reception desk and a few lounge chairs and tables. The next floor up is for the cloakroom and toilets, the floor above that is...
