Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest?

Advantages: Relaxed Environment, Plenty to do, Fab Accommodation
Disadvantages: Costly to eat out.

...As some of you may recall I recently was awarded a diamond for my review on Center Parcs the Oasis Whinfell Forest back in September so I decided that when I went back last week that I would write up a review of my next visit?. Sherwood Forest. Last time I just went for the weekend which was the Friday to the Monday as cars are only permitted on both of these days. Advertised in Oasis was a Welcome Back Discount for up to 25% if you booked another trip within 28 days of returning. On a trip down Memory Lane with The Hooded Man

Advantages: Landmark series, just the right mix of action, drama and comedy
Disadvantages: Are there any?

...On one of my regular visits to Play.com, I was enormously surprised, and not just a little bit delighted to see that they were selling all three seasons of one of my favourite programs of yesteryear at a highly discounted and very pleasing price. The program in question ... Robin of Sherwood, one that in my opinion is the treatment of the Robin Hood myth against which all others are judged and found to be lacking. Of course I decided there and then to snap them up at the extremely reason price of £10.49 each for seasons 1 and 2 and £20.98 for season 3, and then discovered just how popular they were, as they had already run out of stock and I had to wait nearly three weeks to get them. ...equipped and well fed outlaws living in the woods of medieval England is just untenable and seems to exist only in the minds of Hollywood moguls. What was so appealing about Robin of Sherwood was that it was small scale and grubby but still managed to portray a sense of heroics and mysticism as well as great story lines. The premise differs little from the traditional storyline initially, Robin is a disenfranchised noble who, in order to hide from the local barons becomes an outlaw and retires to the forest to clear his name, overthrow the injustices of society and generally put the world to rights. What is added to the story at this point is one of the unique flavours of the show. Robin meets Herne the Hunter, god of the forest and a last link to the pagan beliefs of ancient times. Nothing's Forgotten..Nothing is ever forgotten

...If I was asked which was my favourite television series from my teenage years, I would have to say it was Robin of Sherwood. I don't know if it was the fantastic mix of drama, action, romance and comedy, the gritty realism or just the fact I fancied the pants off a couple of the stars, but I've never seen a better portrayal of the Robin Hood legend. For almost twenty years the only way I could relive these memories was by renting the videos from the library as they weren't available on DVD (and I don't buy VHS). My New Addiction - Robin Hood?

Advantages: Dramatic, Good Acting, Fantastic Soundtrack, Brilliant Plot!
Disadvantages: Would have loved more Special Features :(

Robin Hood mixes comedy, romance and action

Advantages: Great stuff
Disadvantages: A few errors, but nothing major

...Robin Hood Prince of Thieves is the 1991 take on the legend of Robin Hood, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. Look, among the branches, it's Robin Hood!

Advantages: Fantastically cheap, loads of wonderful things to see and do
Disadvantages: Can be extremely packed in warm weather

Hunting Robin

Advantages: Cheap day out
Disadvantages: Dependant on weather and time of year

...I come from and live in this area, so my review might be a little biased. I can remember the forrest before the visitors center existed. If you enjoy nature and walking, then this is the day out for you. It is cheap, car parking is free during the week and £1.50 at weekends, there are no other admission costs. The paths around the forest are clearly marked and I would say that it is suitable for a disabled person to get around. The visitors center is the first port of call for most visitors. this is a visual display of the history of the forrest, with ambient sound effects. It is orth checking out before hand if there are any festivals or displays on the day you want to visit. If you visit during the week long annual Robin Hood Fastival, there is more to see and do, with mock battles ect. If you choose a quieter time...

Advantages: a very evocative, beautiful, sound track

...In the early eighties there was a TV adaptation of the Robin Hood story. Robin of Sherwood was a classic of its era and has stood the test of time well. It was also responsible for aiding the careers of a number of actors who were to begome household names. Michael Praed played the lead, to be replaced by Jason Connery when the former moved to Dynasty and then into relative obscurity. Clive Mantle, Nicholas Grace, Richard Addie and Ray Winstone were also along for the ride. ...When I was a teenager there was a great deal of media speculation over who would be replacing Michael Praed as Robin of Sherwood. Then when it was announced that Jason Connery would be taking over the role, there was yet more speculation over whether he would be able to bring anything new to the character, or even fit in with the existing cast members.
