Welcome home U2
Review of All That You Can't Leave Behind - U2 by
cicymru
Advantages: see article
Disadvantages: see article
...U2 are back in town, the best thing for a long time. A lot of this is down to the original producers once again back in the fold i.e. Steve Lillywhite, Brian Eno & Daniel Lanois. With the return to rock U2 are back to the mega rock band of the eighties, gone are the days of the ‘Pop’ album thankfully.
The first track is the single ‘Beautiful Day’, which is slick, but it could have been anyone of he following tracks that could have become singles.
‘Stuck in a Moment'follows and is the Edges guitar roaring away with Eno on the Synth, Larry Mullens also has a heavy influence with his heavy drumbeat.
Next is ‘Elevation’ which has a big bass intro and Bono charges in with his whooping which is so unique to him. Kite then follows with Bono using the range of his vocals and hitting those powerful notes. ‘Little...

A brief description
Review of Parachutes - Coldplay by
jamiegiles
Advantages: The saviours of Indie music
Disadvantages: or maybe not
...The London foursome in Coldplay has been a critical darling in the band's native U.K. since the start of the new millennium, showcasing melodic pop in a slew of EP releases and constant live shows. Not as heavy as Radiohead or snobbish as Oasis, Coldplay is a band of young musicians who are still honing their sweet harmonies on the debut release Parachutes. Combining bits of distorted guitar riffs and swishing percussion, Parachutes is a delightful introduction and also quickly indicates the reason why this album earned Coldplay a Mercury Music Prize nomination in fall 2000. Frontman Chris Martin's lyrical wordplay is feministic in the manner of Geneva's Andrew Montgomery, but far more withered. The imagery captured on Parachutes is exquisitely dark and artistically abrasive, and the entire composition is tractable thanks to gauzy...

So Glad You Made It
Review of What If [ECD] - Kane by
Echelon17
Advantages: Too many to list
Disadvantages: Unheard of
...INFO/BACKGROUND:
I generally only listen to music by English speaking bands/artists - but I broke the rule with these guys.
Kane are a dutch band and could perhaps be compared to the likes of U2. As I understand it, they're very big in the NL where they hail from, but they're practically unheard of here in the UK - which is a damn shame, because these guys are absolutely amazing.
I have NEVER heard a band play live as well as these guys - it's absolutely beautiful.
DESCRIPTION:
Musically as I said previously, they could be compared to U2 and the other typical alternative/rock-pop on the market today. The lead singer has a fantastically deep yet clear voice, and he improvs well. Occasionally you can hear the hint of a dutch accent, but he sings completely in English on this CD - so not to worry, you'll be able to understand it well...

Very, very good
Review of All That You Can't Leave Behind - U2 by
Kaiser1972
Advantages: Very good Album
Disadvantages: Nothing
..."All that you can't leave behind" will be a remarkable CD in U2 career. After trying a new style with "Pop", U2 comes back to their sucessful formula of rock pop, and better than ever. I really love this album and the more I listen to it, the more I find out how good it is. I will review my favorites tracks.
"Beautiful day", the first single, leaves me speachless. It's the perfect combination of pop & rock, at the same time perfect for radios. Bono's voice is very clear in this track, and it's great.
"Walk on" is my favorite, showing the band's concern on social causes. The lyrics are simple, but deep at the same time, remembering the world that military government still exists, and how devastating it can be. The lyrics make reference to Burma, a place in Asia where children and women are explored, and in which a woman called Ang Lee...

MCFLY A CUT ABOVE BUSTED!
Review of Room On The 3rd Floor - McFly by
gudheart
Advantages: READ BELOW
Disadvantages: READ BELOW
...Right first there was busted..a pop band trying to hard to be a rock act, then they split as the lead singer wanted to join a band that was actually a rock band!!, so now the new Mcfly come to town..known as the busted twins!...and please shouting "STOP STOP not more!".....but hey don't take into sterotypical views untill u actually listen to the album your-self (well apart from my review!)...to be honest im not a pop fan, not really a propper rock fan, so before hearing this album i already had pre-concepted views.
Often artists are getting slated because well they arent propper artists, they dont play own intruments, they dont write their own songs..and hey they dont even sing live, but here we have a boy band consisting of Tom, Danny, Harry and Dougie that do all these things, and people still tend to ride them off...ok i...

STUCK IN A RUT YOU CAN'T GET OUT OF
Review of All That You Can't Leave Behind - U2 by
dan_wales
Advantages: a few good songs
Disadvantages: very unadventurous, lacks ambition
...U2 made their name in the 1980's with albums such as the 'Joshua Tree' and 'War'. They wrote earnest, epic sounding rock with a social and political conscience. However, their relevance in the 90's became more questionable in the 1990's as they found themselves sidelined in favour of less clean living and more exciting rock bands such as Guns and Roses and later Nirvana. U2 responded in a way nobody expected. They embraced dance music, irony and conceptualism. They produced the groundbreaking 'Acthung Baby' and later the flawed but fascinating 'Pop' and 'Zooropa' where dance and rock collided.
'All that you can't leave behind' marked the band's first record of the new millenium and depressingly found them looking back to the unadventurous, but commercially successful 1980's sound.Whilst many fans dislike the 1990's sound, it finds...

Oasis best ever - Definitely Maybe
Review of Definitely Maybe - Oasis by
Chris_Woodcock
Advantages: Debut album - so it's really special. Every track has something special about it
Disadvantages: The lyrics aren't contained in the notes
...They say everyone has a Beatles album in their collection. Everyone has a U2 CD. Surely Oasis will soon be added to that list if they aren't already there. Definitely Maybe launched Oasis into the big time and re-established British Pop. Arguments rage still over what is the best ever Oasis album. My vote goes to Definitely Maybe. It's raw, upbeat and stands for every good about Rock and Roll. It also contains alltime classics such as Live Forever, Cigarettes and Alcohol and Supersonic. Every track can be listened to over and over again. It's one of these albums you listen to and it just gets you going. Rock and Roll star is a great way to kick off the album, really up-tempo. And by the time you reach the end Married with Children is a mellow way to finish. It says a lot about an album that it still sells copies today. Out of all...

A Christian Rock Musical
Review of For Life the Dream to Live - Amos by
amosthomas1969
Advantages: Professional, Powerful Christian 60/70's sounding rock
Disadvantages: best use of site is with high speed connection
...brothers started the band as a pop-rock group that focused on both rock and gospel markets.
They’ve shared the stage with many popular national acts including 10,000 Maniacs, Spin Doctors, Charlie Robinson, Fastball, Vajello, Edwin McCain, Starlight Mints, Supercell, Kevin Martin (voice of Candlebox), Jibe, Tripp Fontaine and others.
Their first effort in the studio titled, “For Life the Dream to Live” - released on the Thunder & Lightning label - was produced by Christian Coffield with Tom Coffield and Jared Aldridge. This full-length concept album “follows a young boy on a psychedelic musical journey in search of the great secret of life,” said Dallas Morning News. Three songs – “Good Time”, “Freedom March”, and “Letter (from the dead King)” - have seen radio airplay on Dallas’ 89.7 Power FM and Musicians.net, the largest internet radio...

Lightweight but Fun
Review of Razorlight - Razorlight by
Zmugzy
Advantages: Some catchy tunes.
Disadvantages: It could have done without some of the umemorable filler tracks
...Razorlight were the kind of band that didn't really move me deeply in any way. In fact the first time I saw them on TV live at Hyde Park as part of Live 8 concert, I thought they were trying too hard with little effect. Then along came the hit single America, which as pop songs go I thought was well constructed and hit all the right notes and punched its weight at the top of the charts. Although hardly original in theme or sentiment, it remains a catchy radio pop song. I'm not sure however, if in the future this is a song that is going to remind us of circa 2006 or some time earlier in the 20th century. It's a sentiment I have for the album as a whole.
Some regard Razorlight as "indie rock's finest grave robbers" an attribute especially attached to their debut 2004 debut Up All Night. There also seems to be a trend amongst those who...
