Review of Rocky (DVD)
Advantages: great story, great acting, excellent soundtrack Disadvantages: Pauly was still an annoying character
...Rocky is living the good life, he still hold the Heavyweight title and is very happy. Things are about the change for Rocky when the Soviet Union announce that they are planning on bringing their prize fighter to fight in America and are after someone to fight against him.
Their fighter is Ivan Drago who weighs 261 pounds and s over 6 foot tall and is undefeated and built like a brick s**t house! Rocky takes no notice of this and is not prepared to fight this amateur but his friend Apollo Creed jumps at the chance of coming out of retirement and fighting him. Rocky helps Apollo train and is there when the fight starts.
Apollo is not prepared for the sheer might of Drago and the fight takes a drastic turn for the worst when Apollo actually dies in the ring. Rocky has to live with the guilt of not throwing in the towel as he was...

Review of Rocky 4 (DVD)
Advantages: Best boxing game that I have played Disadvantages: Possible short lifespan
...I have never been a great fan of boxing games, as much as I have always wanted them to be good I have always found them to be a bit of a let-down. When I spotted the Rocky Legends game a few weeks ago for the knock down price of a tenner I reckoned I would give it a go to see if this, and boxing games in general had improved since I last played one a few years ago.
One thing that gives the game Rocky Legends a head start is that you have some recognizable characters in the game, which you can control. If you have watched the Rocky films then you will be familiar with the characters Clubber Lang, Apollo Creed, Ivan Drago as well as Rocky himself, all of which you get the chance to control in this game. I am a big fan of the Rocky films so this chance to play the game as Rocky and the other characters named above appealed to me...
Advantages: Great ending to the Rocky franchise Disadvantages: No Adrian
...Rocky, Rocky, Rocky
Hard to believe that the first Rocky film was in 1978. It really doesn't seem to have aged throughout the years, the fun, excitement and cheers for Rocky are now all back?
What I am reviewing is the Rocky Balboa DVD.
I am reviewing the region 1 format and this should almost be identical to the region 2 disc when released.
Languages English/French 5.1 Dolby Digital
Subtitles English, French, Spanish
Dolby Digital sound
102 minutes.
It has been quite a while since Sylvester Stallone was in the ring as Rocky Balboa, and the last film Rocky V had him training a fighter called Tommy Gunn.
Sylvester has said in interviews that he wanted to give Rocky a fitting end to the series as he felt that Rocky V didn't end the series very well as there wasn't even a boxing match with Rocky involved, only as...
Advantages: Simple but engaging boxing drama Disadvantages: Difficult to view outside the superheroic machismo that it has become associated with
...Do you really know Rocky? It is highly unlikely that you will have not have heard of the film, but what is your impression of the original film? I think it is important to ask this question to a reader of this review who is pondering whether or not to add Rocky to their film collection.
Although I am an admirer of, for various different reasons, its five sequels, I feel it is important to think of the original Rocky movie as a picture by itself. Years later and Sylvester Stallone, the almost actor equivalent of the "no-hope" slugger Rocky Balboa, would be a fool not to admire the Rocky franchise he chose to continue, but even he is careful to speak of the original as a self-contained project. When the credits roll the story is done. Rocky will not be getting back into the ring again and after that he will not be fighting a giant...

Review of Rocky (DVD)
Advantages: Sly is always watchable Disadvantages: Remake
...All A-List actors get old?the jobs dry up, especially for action heroes. They either take the roles they really don?t want to or they try to cash in one more time on what they were known for, William Shatner most memorably doing just that in Star Trek, Generations. Sylvester Stallone, although reasonably successful with Copland, won?t grow old gracefully on screen playing middle-age, so couldn?t resist one last flog of a dead but beautiful horse here.
?Rocky Balboa? is ?Rocky?, it?s as simple as that. It?s a cheap trick to get a new audience to watch another version of a classic boxing movie and unashamedly reel in that nostalgia seeking audience (me), who remembered and loved the original franchise, making a few dollars in the process. As I said, Stallone is getting on a bit now and he can?t get away with those action movies anymore...

Review of Rocky Balboa (DVD)
Advantages: A better storyline than expected Disadvantages: Quite possibly the last ever Rocky film
...►►► Synopsis
Having retired from the ring many years earlier and also having lost his wife, Adrian (Talia Shire), to cancer, Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) finds himself living off his past glories as he enthrals patrons of his restaurant with tales of his boxing triumphs. But when a TV stunt pits Rocky against the current Heavy Weight Boxing Champion, Mason Dixon (Antonio Tarver), in a computer generated fight, the result is a win for the retired slugger, which reignites a desire inside him to re-enter the ring once more. When Dixon challenges Rocky to a one off bout, he has to push himself to once more prove that he is still a champ.
►►► Opinion
Thirty years and a lot of history has come to pass since Sylvester Stallone brought the iconic character of perennial underdog Rocky Balboa to our...
...Rocky is centred around a down and out journeyman fighter Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) for whom his profession as a boxer is on a downward spiral and in need of a boost. Cue the heavyweight champion of the world, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) making a choice to give an unknown fighter a shot at his title, and of course he chooses Balboa.
The majority of the film is spent in the run up to the big fight, with domestic issues such as Balboa's love interest Adrian(Talia Shire) and her comical brother Pauly (Burt Young).
Creed is certain that he will be victorious but Balboa trains and prepares harder for this battle than he ever has before, even using some peculiar training methods such as using an abbatoir as a gym for the benefit a news interview.
On the surface it is difficult to imagine how such a storyline can conjure up...

Review of Rocky (DVD)
Advantages: The most action packed in the series with plenty of spectacle and melodrama Disadvantages: Trades the earthier side of the first two films for the lowest common action denominator
...I don't think Rocky would ever have sat comfortably as a trilogy. Nevertheless, Rocky III offered a chance of reconciliation with his opponent in the first two films and ends with a conclusion that satisfies them both. Apollo Creed never was painted as the bad guy even when he did wage a humiliation campaign against Rocky in Rocky II. It was the way the films did this, viewing it as the story of two very different sportsmen rather than as the tired old battle of good versus evil, that put both films above virtually all their imitators. Rocky III starts to slide more into a good vs bad formula, although this isn't to say it completely loses its way. In Rocky III we get to see yet more of the character of Apollo, including some of his back story. In an interesting role-reversal Rocky now becomes the pampered the champion and it is Apollo...

Review of Rocky 3 (DVD)
Advantages: Cheap, Great Entertainment Disadvantages: Not HD, No Rocky 6 Included
...Overview
This box set is called Rocky Anthology which is one of my favourite film franchises. It is also one of the biggest films of Sylvester Stallon's career. This box set includes Rocky 1-5 however does not contain Rocky 6 which is the final film in the franchise, so if you want the whole collection I suggest you do not get this box set and go for "Rocky - The Complete Saga" box set which contains all Six films. Sylvester Stalone is both writer and star of all 6 Rocky films.
Cast
Sylvester Stallone (Rocky Balboa) Rocky started off as a loan shark at the same time he was a small time boxer. As a loan shark he was asked to do things he did not enjoy but carried on because he needed the money. He is also a southpaw which means he is a left hander boxer. He is also known as the Italian Stallion which is used as his...
