...I thought that I would have to think quite hard about the subject of this, my 300th Ciao review. It didn't take me too long however to decide to write about my local Pub, The Roebuck Tavern in Sheffield. INTRODUCTION The Roebuck Tavern is one of my regular haunts within Sheffield City Centre, and as far as City Centre Pubs go it has a pleasant atmosphere with a regular, friendly clientele that makes a nice refreshing change. The Roebuck Tavern has an excellent reputation for good Home Cooked Food which makes it a favourite location for daytime Shoppers to call into for a spot of Lunch. It is also situated adjacent to the main Council Offices and there are many other Offices nearby making it popular at Lunchtimes during the week. During the Evenings and Weekends the clientele changes but the atmosphere remains warm...

Where there's a will there's a Wayne

Advantages: Modern Car, very professional, high pass rate
Disadvantages: Timekeeping could sometimes be better

I was, I think, what you would call one of Wayne's more elderly customers (I was only 39 when I passed my test, but that's hardly 17). I was and always had been a very nervous passenger, due to my brother being killed in a motorbike accident when I was younger. But as I saw 40 looming ahead I decided to bite the bullet and book lessons. Why Roebuck? Well Wayne doesn't advertise much, he doesn't need to. A lot of the local six formers have or are learning to drive with him. My niece passed her test with him, and I used to see him at the local hotel I worked in when he used the gym. All Motor Racing Lapped Up

Advantages: Excellent coverage of all aspects of motor racing
Disadvantages: None

...Many of the newer motorsport magazines tend to be dominated by Formula 1 with perhaps a small amount of coverage of the World Rally Championship or the American ChampCar series. Indeed some now even appear to exploit the high profile of F1 and treat the sport as some sort of 4-wheeled soap opera. Autosport is a long established motor sport title and is extremely thorough in its coverage of all levels of motor sport in Britain. This is not to say Formula 1 is ignored, it certainly is not. And respected motor sport journalists such as Mark Hughes and Nigel Roebuck contribute interesting articles to the magazine. The magazine is not only interested in the drivers within Formula 1 however and thorough technical updates are given as cars are given minor chnages race to race. Historical reference

Advantages: Excellent well-written magazine
Disadvantages: Little contemporary writing

...articles covering what is happening in Formula 1 now. Whilst this does not detract from the enjoyment of the magazine now it is worrying where future archive material is going to come from. The writers on Motor Sport include some of the best names in motorsport journalism. Authoritative writers such as Nigel Roebuck and Mark Hughes are regular contributors and their articles are hugely entertaining. At £3.75 Motor Sport is not cheap but if you are interested in the history of F1 rather than what is currently happening then it is well worth the cover price....

Advantages: Great graphics,story mode and online all you want really

Advantages: Some brilliant extended features including the unmissable "Ask Murray" column.
Disadvantages: News lags behind the opposition and is not reported as well.

Murray Walker fans will love the "Ask Murray" section, much in the same vein as Autosport's "Ask Roebuck" (Nigel Roebuck, long time F1 journalist) which allows members of the public to send in questions which Murray answers with typical gusto and enthusiasm. Some of the questions of late have been a bit poor and often factually inaccurate, but this only serves as an incentive to send better material in - I urge everyone to have a try. Other useful sections include a section on the history of Formula One which covers all the great names and adds considerable detail - not quite to the encyclopaedia lengths of Forix but nonetheless a useful resource. ...Autosport is a first class magazine, so it is only fitting that their website should be as good. Magazine websites often tread a fine line, they want to provide information, but not prevent sales of the mag. Autosport is certainly less cut down than many, News is the main issue, and that is up to the minute, and covers all the major series around the world, with additional coverage of smaller British series. The site is simple and easy to navigate, with all the major categories along the top, and a section with the latest news, usually from F1 on the right.
