Giro Atmos 2006 Cycling Helmet
Advantages: Lightweight & looks great ! Lance wears one !
Disadvantages: Expensive
...Having had Giro helmets for a while, and my Helios hat being about 5 years old, I decided to buy a new hat a few months ago. I've worn it sevaral times a week for a while now, so thought I'd let you know about it !
The current advice on changing your bicycle helmet is to replace it after 5 years or so, even if it hasn't been involved in a crash, since pollution, UV light and weathering can apparently weaken its component parts over time. Not sure if this is just marketing hype to make us all spend more money (!), but I've only got one head, and wouldn't want to damage it over being stingy !
Giro has been making quality light-weight cycling helmets since 1985. Giro is the helmet of choice for world famous seven times Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, as it is for winners of mountain bike world championships, cyclocross world...

USE YOUR HEAD! WEAR A HELMET.
Advantages: LOOKS. COMFORT. FIT
Disadvantages: EXPENSIVE IF NOT FREQUENTLY USED
...The Giro Monza helmet ranges in price from anywhere btween £50 and £70 at the time of this review. I paid £80 for mine a few months ago. I don't regret one penny of it as a helmet is invaluable, in my opinion, when cycling (my previous one ended up in 3 pieces when I landed headfirst on a roadside rock).
The Giro Monza is lightweight - even the size large for my big head comes in at only 310g - and extremely comfortable. Smaller sizes are obviously lighter still.
The comfort is aided by the Roc-Loc system which allows you to place the helmet on your head and adjust the fit in situ, so no time consuming adjustments and readjustments are needed to individual straps. It also has 24 air vents to allow for ventilation and cooling, along with cool max pads inside which help to wick away sweat. These pads can be removed for washing if needs...

Stylish lids for bouncing on yer bonce!
Advantages: Stylish, lightweight helmet
Disadvantages: Fifty quid out of pocket!
...I've been riding bikes for years and have always avoided wearing a helmet but I live in the centre of Glasgow and recently my flatmate has been wiped off his bike a couple of by gormless car drivers. Admittedly one was quite comical, he was passing a car and the little old lady didn't check her mirror when she swung her door open...
So this got me thinking, and seeing as my cycling is becomming more and more serious and have a lot of money invested in my bike I thought it time I invested some money in my head.
Giro are a very good, well known manufacturer of cycle helmets. Both for extreme off road stuff and simple leisure cycling. The company started in 1985 when a man named Jim Gentes created the first lightweight adult cycling helmet in his garage. Business boomed and soon he had to take over his next door neighbours garage...

Helmet for Life
Advantages: free replacements
Disadvantages: no cyc;e helmet is cool!!
...I bought my first Giro helmet from Halfords a few years ago now. With it came a lifetime guarantee. How can they promise that? I hear you ask. Well the way they do it is this. You buy the original helmet, mine cost around £15, then if you ever have an accident of any kind you return the helmet to them and they send you a new one. They then use your damaged helmet for testing purposes to help them to improve the safety and design. Good idea I think!! And they also come in a wide range of groovy colors and patterns. Well worth the it, I know that helmets are not the trendiest things on the planet but if I have to look a bit silly to be safe, then so be it....

Giro Bank - the best I have found so far
Advantages: Good bank with a good range of services
Disadvantages: expensive if you need an overdraft
...I have been with Alliance and Leicester Giro for the last 18 years; previously it was Girobank, the Post Office bank. I have had in those 18 years only three problems with my account, which can be traced to them; I believe this to be very good. All of them have been rectified within 48 hours of my contacting the bank and any charges that have been incurred have been refunded. The best one was when I went £20 and 15pence into the red and I only have a 20 ?buffer-zone? on my account. I was charged £8 plus interest for using my overdraft facility, I rang and complained and they refunded the charges immediately as it was only a small amount over my limit. That is what I call customer service. One of the major advantages of this bank is that I can withdraw cash from any post-office, which means I don?t have to go finding a cash machine...

Through a lens clear, dark..err darker
Advantages: Simplicity and ease of use.
Disadvantages: Costs can rapidly mount up.
...: from 49mm-96mm and focal length greater than 20mm.
"X-Pro" system; from 62mm-112mm with focal length greater than 14mm.
There are also some rings for specialist type cameras such as Rollei and Hasselblad. There are also some that will attach with a magnetic ring for digital cameras. Here I am quoting their literature.
The filters come in 8 different types.
1: coloured.
2: diffraction stars.
3: Centre-spots.
4: Pastels-diffusers.
5: Optical Effects.
6: Graduated.
7: Polarizers.
9: Special Effects.
The complete range has 160 different filters.
The filters for the "P" system are contained in a plastic box and are themselves made of organic glass (maker's booklet) as are all the filters rather than an optical glass with a coating. The box for the filter is (HxWxD) 110mm x 95mm x 10mm and the filter itself is 82mm x 82mm...

Simply unbeatable
Advantages: a classic, you get the best pictures
Disadvantages: expensive
...This is THE classic camera in the medium format. Of course the Rollei flex ? and cord is better known, but the Hasselblad 501 CM is an excellent camera.
There is so much to say about this camera that it hardly fits into this space. This brand is like the zippo for lighters. It has existed for ages and its reputation is still at the top. I reckon it is the best medium format camera in the world.
The 500 series has been out for a long time and by now all of the parts are interchangeable. There is no need for you to go for something more flash or expensive, despite this being the bottom line for Hasselblad. It does teach you a lot and you could even become professional with this camera. However you have to know what you want from the camera: portraits, landscape etc. It is a good choice, but be aware that moving images will be quite...
