Ciao Bella! - The Best of Rome
Advantages: A lifetime of sights to see, excellent transport, amazing ice cream
Disadvantages: Very busy
...I visited here with two student friends in 2003, on a mission to soak up a lot of culture, have a great time and not spend much money, and we did pretty well on all counts. After sitting through years of torturous Latin lessons at school, I had high hopes for the city. We managed to find possibly the strangest hotel in Rome to stay in, the Hotel Giarda, near Stazione Termini, where they monitored our every movements through strategically placed security cameras, and the chamber maids had a good daily rifle through our luggage, but other than that it was well situated for exploring.
Here are my top Roma sights (in no particular order):
Vatican City: Even though this is slap bang in the middle of Rome, the Vatican is technically an independent state, with the Pope as sovereign, its own post office and legal system, and definitely...

Rome, a wonder of the ancient world, ...and very expensive
Advantages: Beautiful City, lots of English speaking Italians, good food and excellent wine
Disadvantages: Highly overpriced and expensive, not good with the current economic climate
...love art, history and good food and wine, Italy is a wondeful place to visit on holiday. I give Rome on a four day visit 4 out of 5.
Other useful websites i used to plan my trip:

Amazing Rome
Advantages: History, lots of things too see and so, food, amazing museums, Gelato
Disadvantages: Too much to see, crowded around major sight, fear of being pickpocketed
...into the Trevi fountain to ensure my return to Rome one day because Rome is certainly worth a second and third visit. The Norwegian author Henrik Ibsen wrote some of his pieces in Rome and he said that you need at least three lifetimes to see Rome :-) The next time we visit I hope that we will get time to take the Scavi tour (excavations of the Necropolis (City of the Dead) beneath St. Peter's), look at the view from the dome of St. Peter's, maybe go to Ostia near the coast etc. So my final recommendation: if you are going to Italy stay as long as you can in Rome?you won't run out of things to see and do :-)
I hope that you found this trip report useful please give me feedback if I have made mistakes or if you just have comments or questions. I can be reached on gardkarlsen@hotmail.com....

Keep Rome Tidy. Kill A Tourist.
Advantages: It's Bella Roma. Lots to do, great food, fantastic weather.
Disadvantages: Tons of tourists, the loos everywhere and the money "problems"
...No doubt not the best way to start, but I?m to apologize in advance if you?re expecting a typical Zoë city op. This one?s going to have opinions, views, ideas, but won?t be chock-a-block (what a great nostalgia-inducing word that is) with facts. It?s not going to list opening times and prices guidebook-stylee, nor will it include the URLs of all shops and sights mentioned. You?re all big grown ups. If you can read an op on here, you can click over to Yahoo and search for the places involved. It?s not hard. I?m fed up trying to write ?perfect? ops, so for once I?m going to go against expectation and just write what I feel. Rant over, here comes the good stuff?
Italy is great. It?s fan-dabby-dozie, super-dooper, top-banana as the saying in our Kids club last summer went. Having ?done? Milan, Florence, Verona and Pisa among others, it...

Rome-The Eternal City
Advantages: Beautiful city.Wonderful architecture and monuments
Disadvantages: So much to see and do. Expensive
...There is so much to see and do in Rome that knowing where to start becomes something of a real Roman dilemma. In this fascinating city you can stumble across history at every step and major attractions are so many and so widely dispersed that it is not possible to see them all, if you are on a short visit. It is best to focus your attention on a limited aspect - say the prime attractions in the Vatican, Archaeological Rome and Monumental Rome - and allow at least a day for each. If you have time to spare after that a trip to the leafy areas of northern Rome such as the Villa Borghese, the largest park in Rome, is an interesting foray, as would be a brief visit to the spa town of Fiuggi, about one hour's journey from the city centre.
The Vatican area across the Tiber, directly west of downtown Rome, is reached by subway A line, get...

Beautiful Rome
Advantages: History, sites, weather, food, culture
Disadvantages: Fear of pickpockets, busy, traffic
...I have just returned from a trip to Rome. The weather was lovely - cool and sunny. It was due to needing a good breat! My travels are kept to a minimum right now, for financial reasons. I simply can't afford to gallivant all over the world right now. Therefore, I get very comfy in my little town.
I want to see the world. It is one of my biggest passions, the ability to travel and see the world. So last month, utterly fed up of my hometown, my current life and situation, my friend and I decided to take a trip. The thought of escaping for a week was a fantastic though.
On the day of departure, however, my friend got sick - a nasty chest infection rendered her incapable to travel. The trip would now take on a new meaning. There would be no hilarity, no laughs at the new culture, and no companionship. I would be hurtled into the bosom...

A short guide to Rome
Advantages: Sites, food and culture
Disadvantages: Noise, crime and its too busy
...When you go to a Europen capital you expect a certain of history. Paris may have 500 years of it, but Rome has over 2000 years of it making you see why it is called the eternal city.
Depending on how long you intend on going to Rome, you will need to decide beforehand on what sites to see. Firstly there are the ancient sites. These include the Collosium, Forum, Catacombs and Domus Aurea (which may be closed due to structural repairs).
Secondly there are the renaissance sites such as the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and the Vatican.
Thirdly there are a tremedous amount of shops around Rome and a particularly good parade leads directly from the Spanish Steps.
The best way to visit Rome is to pair up different sites. Some may need a day to see e.g. Vatican. But some such as the Spanish Steps should be done in the morning...

Rome, Venice and Elba Diary
Advantages: So much to see, beautiful weather, lovely food
Disadvantages: not much lush green grash in the summer!
..., and had our lovely picnic, bothered only by a few pigeons. We also were treated to some sightings of Rome's famous wild cats. After lunch we went off to the Villa Borghese museum, however only to find that you can only get it if you have prebooked!! So never mind, off we went to the 3 churches in Piazza Del Popolo and then back to the Spanish Steps were we eat a little more at the first macdonalds in Italy! Its 2 floors and quite spectucular for a MacDonalds. In true Italian style, even the food at maccyd's is nicer!. Then back to our hostel and indulged in the finer side of hostelling, talking to complete strangers and making friends from the Czech Republic and Canada. After enquiring about a nice restaurant in the vicinity we headed to the Trattoria La Casetta, just off the Piazza, where we eat delicious freshly cooked fish and watched...

Early February Spent Wrapped up in Rome.
Advantages: So many amazing sights to discover, a truly wonderful city.
Disadvantages: Tired feet and too much traffic
...Rome is one of those places I?ve always wanted to see, and so I was ever so slightly jealous when my brother went last summer, followed swiftly by my parents when it was their Silver Wedding Anniversary in October. They all came back with tales of what a wonderful time they?d had and so I sat and listened and pretended not to be in the slightest bit jealous?. I?m not totally sure they were convinced.
Then in December, out of the blue, my boyfriend asked me if I could be free the first week in February, as he?d found cheap flights to Rome on the Internet and wanted to book them as my birthday present. As you can imagine, I didn?t need asking twice (I always knew there was a good reason for loving him!!) and before I knew it, Christmas had come and gone, and I was packing for a five night stay in the chilly early February climate...

Vide Rome et Mori
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...What a city. It seems to have everything.
If its culture you are after there is so much to see and the advantage is it is spread over a relatively small area. Even if you only spend a day in Rome you will have the opportunity to see the sights everyone else talks about. The Forum, St Peters, Vatican City, The Trevi fountains, the river Tiber, the coliseum and so much more.
If you are in Rome you will be able to see these in a leisurley fashion but if you are staying elswhere and get the opportunity for a flying visit for the day do not despair, jump at the chance. You will be surprised at how much you will be able to see and, of course photograph. It will be an unforgetable experience....
