Ciao Bella! - The Best of Rome

Advantages: A lifetime of sights to see, excellent transport, amazing ice cream
Disadvantages: Very busy

...in my hotel was canned fruit cocktail, bread and knockout strength black coffee or super-frothy cappucinos. The transport system in Rome is very good, despite the rather frenetic driving skills of the bus drivers. There is a comprehensive underground network, in which as opposed to the tube in London where everyone pretends there is noone else in their carridge, the Italians stare aggressively into each others eyes for the duration of the journey. As tourists we got more than our fair share of this, and no amount of glaring back changes the situation. Tram / metro / bus passes are available for a week's unlimited travel for around £9. The railway system is equally as efficient. I took a day trip to Florence during my stay, which only took a couple of hours on the fast train. The ticket office was very helpful at Termini station...

Best Location In Rome

Advantages: Location, space, staff are friendly, air con
Disadvantages: None

...ticket at the desk or news-stand and stamp it in one of the machines before you board a train There's plenty on this street, so much so you could survive quite comfortably here without having to venture to the other parts of Rome...obviously you should go elsewhere because you're on holiday, but if you've travelled and you just need dinner or you need bottled water then you just step out onto the street and walk two metres. This doesn't necessarily mean that it's very crowded. There's a normal amount of cars that drive by and there aren't all that many people that go this way - certainly not like the centre. Two very nice restaurants on the same side of the street, two on the other side - one not so nice at all (the one nearest to the hotel, without the yellow canopy - sorry I've forgotten the name!) and an ok restaurant. Also, walking...

Rome rocked

Advantages: Excellent strategy game
Disadvantages: Not for those without time on their hands.

...This is the game who's engine was used recently on one of the bbc's programs, it featured historical battles being fought by teams of people, and the public wanted to try it themselves. Thus, Rome:Total War was born and many people, including me, were and are hooked onto it. As i hurried home with the game in my hand, and a few points on my game card, i couldnt wait to play it. The cellophane was ripped off, and the cd placed in the drive, i couldnt contain my excitement. The installation was relatively simple, no hiccups, just changing cd's every now and again. And then suddenly, the question was popped " Would you like to run Rome:Total War now". I ticked the box, and pressed ok, the red loading screen opened up before me. The small red bar at the bottom of the screen filled up and i had started my journey into the past. The list...

Review of Rome: Total War (PC)

Highlight of Rome

Advantages: Bags of history, fantastic tour guides, beautiful views
Disadvantages: None noticable

...The immensity of these historical remains took my breath away before I had even begun to learn about the depth and horror of its history. Those of you who have seen Gladiator or studied Ancient Rome in history lessons may be aware of the basic features and uses of the Colosseum in its days of glory but the amount of information given during the tour intrigued and enlightened me to the full extent of its history. Getting to the Colosseum could not be easier. It is situated in the centre of Rome quite literally with main roads running meters away from its ancient structure. The Metro station is situated within meters of the entrance with a zebra crossing leading across the road to the cobbled pathway that ran around the Colosseum. However if you do chose to take the metro be careful when traveling to keep any belongings in front of you...

When In Rome...

Advantages: Great Location, Great Room, Friendly Staff
Disadvantages: Lack of Wardrobe Space

.... It was easy enough to get to sleep, although that was probably because we had done so much every day. My only criticism of the room is the lack of wardrobe space, there was one small wardrobe, although we worked around it. Breakfast in the hotel is a continental buffet and is very good, I didn't miss my bacon and eggs at all. You can have as much as you want, ham cheese, hard boiled eggs, jam, orange juice, coffee etc? You can change your traveller's cheques at the hotel, however they charge 5% commission, we found an exchange that did 2% but that was closed a lot and some charged silly amounts. There is a bar in the hotel, although we didn't use it, instead preferring to have a drink out. The hotel is situated on the Via XXIV Maggio 8. The location is excellent for all Rome's attractions and most are within walking...

Hotel Villa Patrizi, Rome

Advantages: Good location, good value for money, polite staff
Disadvantages: Small rooms

...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Why we chose the hotel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My boyfriend and I decided to take a weekend city break in Rome, we were joined by his parents who travelled seperately. We looked on Expedia for a good deal and we found one with reasonable BA flights and 3 nights stay at Hotel Villa Patrizi. We looked at the information and pictures of the hotel on the internet and it looked good so we decided to book it. Now we have been to the hotel, and looking back at the pictures, they are true to life and do not decieve you in anyway that the hotel looks different to what it does. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ About the hotel ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hotel Villa Patrizi is a brand new 4 star hotel located in Rome. As you walk into the hotel there is a pretty sitting area full of beautiful, lively and colourful flowers. If the weather was nicer...

When in Rome...

Advantages: Fantastic for quality service, price, and location
Disadvantages: You'll want to stay longer and you'll want to go back!

...A couple of years ago I was lucky enough to head out to Rome for a 3 day break with family. Flying Easyjet from Newcastle very early in the morning, we arrived in a warm and sunny Ciampino Airport we could barely believe that the dark and cold December day we had left behind in Newcastle was still the same day in sunny Rome. My Aunty P, who is fluent in Italian, and lived for a long time in Rome, had arranged transport to our Hotel, The Hotel King, right in the heart of the city, and so we bundled ourselves into the large taxi cab, and off we went! For me, it was something of an adventure, as neither myself or my mum, who was also with us, had been to Rome before. I have long been enchanted by the Italian language, and find it the only language I know to *feel* so nice being spoken - there's just a gorgeous sensation as the words...

Review of King Hotel, Rome

When In Rome...

Advantages: Fantastic location, brilliant service, immaculate
Disadvantages: It is pricey, but then, Rome is generally pricey

...Recently the boyfriend and I decided, continuing with our resolution from last year to travel more, that we needed a little break, so we scoured the website for some cheap flights and plumped on Rome as the destination. Next task, find a hotel. We were only going out for four days so we needed somewhere central which would be convenient for getting to all the sights and, hopefully, not too expensive. Neither of us had been to Rome before, so we had no idea of the best area to stay in, what the standards would be like, the cost; we were clueless! So with the help of the boyfriend's parents, who are travel agents and have also been to Rome before, we were recommended to stay at Hotel Cicerone . Hotel Cicerone is a 4* hotel with 292 rooms located a 5 minute walk from Lepanto metro station, on via Cicerone. We had flown into Rome...

Review of Cicerone Hotel, Rome

Rome, a wonder of the ancient world, ...and very expensive

Advantages: Beautiful City, lots of English speaking Italians, good food and excellent wine
Disadvantages: Highly overpriced and expensive, not good with the current economic climate

...Before the Trip I had decided to pick a romantic weekend away for my boyfriend and I for Valentines 2009 weekend, and had booked back in August 2008 with First Choice a trip for four days to Rome. I had selected a four star hotel bed and breakfast, the StarHotel, Metropole, Rome, and return flights with easyjet, travel insurance and return private taxi from the hotel to the airport all for about £600.00 for two people. To aid my trip I had purchased a travel guide with maps and advice this range in price, mine cost £8.99 and this guide was throughly useful, in what to look out for, where the best places were and what to avoid!!! The Weather Over the four days we were in Rome, it was pure sunshine with no clouds at all. We had no rain and its was reasonably warm, though in need of a light jacket. However rain was predicted...

Review of Rome (Italy)

Want to Roam around Rome? - Stay Here!

Advantages: Location, Price and Staff
Disadvantages: Nothing, It is what it is!

...I recently went on a trip to Rome, my first trip in fact to Italy, I love culture and history so this city was a must on my list. Oh and it's the year of the 'I' - the year in which I visit countries beginning with I, so far I've been, Ireland, Iceland and now Italy. Location ********* The Clarin Hotel is a 2 star hotel situated in Via Palermo, a street central to the city centre although on the Eastern side, and approximately a 5 minute walk from Termini Station and a 10-12 minute walk to the Coliseum and many other attractions. I would recommend getting the train from the airport (either of them) to Termini Station as the hotel is 2 roads away from the station, and as long as your case has wheels or bag isn't heavy you'll be fine walking it. How, where and why to book ******************************** I ended up...
