Sandals Montego bay

Advantages: Sandals in genuinely "All Inclusive", and oozes quality
Disadvantages: Jamaica seems festooned with hustlers

...I went to Sandals Montego Bay for 2 weeks in August 1997 for my honeymoon. It seemed pricey at first glance (it was about 3400 ukp for us both) but this turned out to be pretty good value for money. The food was excellent, there were at least 5 restaurants to choose from including a Chinese, an Italian and an A La Carte, all at least four courses. You could also pop along to Sandals Royal Jamaican or Sandals Inn for a change. Sandals Royal Jamaican has an excellent Indonesian restaurant you have to get to in a "traditional" Balinese boat, but it's well worth the effort. All of the staff did their best to give you a good holiday and the activities were enjoyable, though you weren't forced to join in. The resort is private, some people think this means you miss a lot but we weren't there to soak up the local culture, and I think...

Review of Montego Bay (Jamaica)

Nice tan, shame about the nervous breakdown!

Advantages: Weather, beach and the food!
Disadvantages: Airport, roads and COST!

...Having been back 4 days from our 2 week hol in Jamaica, I thought I MUST write this before I forget what was what! Pre-holiday details: We normally like to do all-inclusive hols as I prefer to vegetate and be waited on hand and foot whilst on holiday!! (work hard, play hard???) So having already been to other Caribbean locations, we decided this year to do Jamaica. We initially had considered Cuba, but it was more expensive! We saw the resort in a brochure and decided on the hotel. Having checked out the amenities in every brochure and online, we decided to book the 4* plus hotel 'Wyndham Rose Hall Resort & Country Club', with Airtours (via Co-op travel for a discount). I won't go into detail regarding the hotel as this review is more concerned with the resort as a whole. Jamaica is one of the larger islands in...

Yeah man, no problem

Advantages: LOADS
Disadvantages: Hassle from beggars

...Anybody who has been lucky enough to go to Jamaica will be familiar with this saying, it seems to be the Jamaicans national catch phrase, and you know what? It’s usually true, nothing was too much trouble for the majority of Jamaicans we met when we stayed at the Sunset Beach Resort in Montego Bay. I say the majority because there was one or two incidents that went against this which I will tell you about later on in the review. But anyway, lets take a step back, my girlfriend and I had just had a lucky break money wise and were looking to treat ourselves to somewhere exotic and it came down to a toss up between Jamaica and The Dominican. Now I am naturally tight and despite for once not having to worry too much about the cost I was still looking for a bargain, the holiday in Jamaica was a couple of hundred pound cheaper so it...

Mo bay

Advantages: Clean, Tidy
Disadvantages: Staff not very friendly

...My father lives in Jamaica so i go out to visit him every other year or two. I love travelling and i enjoy being on a areoplane i have to admit the only thing i do dreed about the whole travelling experience is landing at Montego Bay airport after a 9 hour flight. Yes i'm more than thankful to have my feet on the ground and to have finally reached my destination but i find the whole process of going through the airport a nightmare. You'd think i would have got use to it the amount of times i done it but last years visit was the worse. I flew out with my two small children , partner. my mum my brother, his girlfriend and little boy. Once you get off the plane the first thing that hits you is the heat which is only expected as your coming from a cold country to a hot one. You have to walk what seems like miles to get to...

Review of Montego Bay Airport

No Problem everything is Irie

Advantages: Amazing Beaches
Disadvantages: The long Flight

...If you’re up for an irie time, visit Jamaica! We walked Waterfalls, swam with dolphins and had banana lessons! This holiday was a totally new experience, when booking our holiday we decided we wanted to go a bit further a field and after looking through piles of travel brochures decided on Montego Bay, Jamaica. We arrived after a 10 hr journey to find a 6 hr time difference so even though it felt like the middle of the night it was still sunny and the middle of the afternoon! We checked into our hotel The Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort, this process took so long, After this we were taken to our rooms that were nice. The hotel was based on All Inclusive this meant we could eat and drink as much as we liked. The facilities for this were very good. The main buffet available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Then there were 3 other...

CARIBBEAN CAPERS

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...Sea. When we arrived at the airport, we had no idea in which resort we would be staying, but we were lucky as we found ourselves booked in at the Seawinds complex in Montego Bay. It was a little off the beaten track but ideally situated for a quiet, relaxing holiday, with its own restaurants, swimming pools and private beaches, including a nudist beach for those wishing to get an all-over tan! Our rooms were on the 9th floor with superb views over the harbour and beaches and we were able to see the visiting cruise ships, an impressive sight when lit overall at night. Currency used in town was the US dollar and Jamaican dollar, but in the complex, ?Sharks Teeth? were the only legal tender (each worth one US dollar or 28 Jamaican dollars). It was confusing initially, but we soon got used to the idea, although it was a bit of a rip...

Nooo problem man

Advantages: SUN, SEA, RELAXATION, FUN tooooo much more to mention
Disadvantages: That 10 hour flight

.... There is a buffet restaurant, late night snack bar, open til 01:00am, a main bar and a Wok a'la carte restaurant which is open 5 nights a week. We stayed in Montego Bay for two weeks. The are lots of things to see and do in Motego Bay, It really boasts a cosmopolitan atmoshere, there are loads of shops, bars and restaurants along the main resort area, it's more commonly known as "the hip strip" Whilst there we didn't do alot of things, we went Aqua Sol theme park, which was quite a good day out with slides and other things that you'd expect to see at a theme park! We also went for a day out to Ocho Rios to go and see Dunns river falls and even had the chance to climb up the whole 600 foot of them, be careful though, it is slippery! but we did have a paddle in the pools at the top, this excursion cost us around £40. After that we went...

Trelawny Beach - Poor Beach

Advantages: Cheap, All inclusive.
Disadvantages: Pollution, Poor Watersports, Poor Food, Noise

...I took a cheapie to Jamaica this year a week in Trelawny Beach near Mo'bay for £550. The hotel was OK, noisy but that seems to go for everywhere in Jamaica, the food was free and that was all it was worth. Trips were OK but the hotel couldn't arrange anyway to get up into the cockpit country (read "Halidon" to whet your appretite). The "diving school" was poor, I think the "instructors" had blown ear drums so no deep dives to be had. I would definitley not recomend learning to dive there, the novice who dived of the boat with me (in force 5) had trouble keeping up with his instructor. The worst thing at the hotel was the awfull visibility off the beach, after walking a mile round the bay and swimming along the reef and in I found out why. About 60 meters of the shore the hotel discharges its waste "brown water" out past this...

Jamaica - Runaway Bay

Advantages: Interesting excursions
Disadvantages: Hassle from drug pushers if you stay in the main resorts

...tall and close together. The coffee grown there has a chocolatey taste as the cacao beans are grown alongside the coffee beans and the whole area just smells of coffee and chocolate. There is a magnificent rope bridge which swings over a very deep gulley and although I tried to cross it I couldn't get more than half way because I was afraid, much to the amusement of the local children who were trying to encourage me. One of the highlights of my trip to Jamaica was meeting the actor Jon Pertwee who happened to be there on holiday at the time. For those of you not familiar with him he played 'Worzel Gummidge' and the best ever 'Dr Who'. When I spoke to other holidaymakers who were staying in either Ocho Rios or Montego Bay they complained about the amount of hassle they were getting every time they left their hotels. However, we had...

My Bay

Advantages: tasty addition to stews and cassorole
Disadvantages: maybe to strong for your taste

...Bay is an everygreen herb which grows like a shrub, it can be grown in open spaces or in tubs. The flowers of the bay are yellow and it will flower in may. The best way to get a bay plant is to buy one from a garden centre for around 99p depending on the size. I also like to get my herbs from bootsales where you can pick them up from 25p so saves money. When your bay plant is well established in the pot re-plant it outside. It likes to be in a sunny but shaded place in the garden. They may die off in the winter but should throw new shoots during the following spring. Bay is a native to the east mediterranean but have been grown in europe for years. They are a very popular herb to grow in your herb garden as they have a good use in cookery. You can use the leaves dried or fresh. Bay leaves have a very strong aromatic...
