Girly, vintage inspired salve

...When it comes to beauty products, a good dose of nostalgia goes a long way and any rose scented product instantly reminds me of being a little girl playing perfume shops, making up perfumes in jam jars made from crushed rose petals in water. While the scent of these was sadly undeniably revolting (and the iffy brown colour pretty nasty too) there is something fabulously nostalgic about a rose fragrance, bringing to mind all things girly and vintage. Rose & Co is a product line created by Caroline Rose, an aromatherapist whose aim is to use traditional recipes using natural, old-apothecary ingredients. The Rose Petal Salve was the first product Caroline created and was made by hand on the Aga in her kitchen, so not so far removed from my childhood perfume making after all! High tea and rose petals

Advantages: Superb customer service, high quality dining options
Disadvantages: Nothing will ever live up to it? It is expensive

...wedding at the Ritz, we had champagne in the lobby lounge afterwards and obviously they could not fail to notice our outfits, so when we retired that night they had decorated the bed with rose petals, left champagne on ice and a plate of strawberries which had not just been chocolate dipped but the chocolate was painted on as dinner jackets! They left another plate the next night too. Summary There is no need for a long summary here. I have stayed in many five star hotels and all I can say, with my hand on my heart, is that this was and remains the best hotel I have ever stayed in....

Beautiful tiny tight rose like petals

...I love Rock Roses as it is one of the first alpine plants that I ever bought (and is still alive) which is a miracle for me. I choose Rock Rose as it is one of my favourites, easily available in garden centres/nurseries and like most alpines cost about £1.45 each. The Rock roses that I have in my rockery have quite long twiggy stems that grow upright and then bend over. In the spring the leaves on mine go paler but brighter and the little buds appear and the flower gradually start to appear. I have a bright magenta and a pale creamy yellow. I can't tell you the proper species name, I just know them as rock roses. They grow in quite shady places, like between stones, cracks, crevices, but will tolerate quite a lot of sun. These plants are quite thirsty in the summer too, so water well. They don't particularly smell, but...

Wake up and smell the roses

Advantages: Light, unusual, delicate, feminine

...without crushing or harvesting the petals of the flower. The living flower is placed in a glass bell where an apparatus inhales the scent which is then recreated in laboratory. When I sprayed the perfume on my arm, it smelled more than just rose. It smelled like the whole flower with its leaves and woody stem; a scent that reminded me of spring mornings when the earth exhales its dewy freshness and the smell of wet grass hangs in the air. Being an eau de parfum this first phase of 'very rose' is tenacious can last up to an hour. After that the middle notes appear which are composed of balanced fresh floral scents of rose oil and magnolia. I liked this phase better, it was however a lot more faded than the top notes of rose. The woody, sweet, light, subtle and powdery base gives it a lovely finish that lingers on the skin for up to 8 hours...

remember summer rose petals

...? Is it the alkaline in your skin, your body temperature? I don?t know. Maybe someone can help me here. The odour is a light touch of femininity, without smelling too girly and old-fashioned. I can detect what to me seems like garden rose petals (like the tinctures I used to make as a child in the garden) but the perfume is still young and fresh enough to wear for work. I find the packaging pleasing on the eye - it?s smooth surfaces and oval shape - and it feels like a pleasing beach pebble in my hand. Also, unlike a lot of perfumes nowadays, I can slip it into my handbag and take it to work without it sticking awkwardly through the bag or out of the top. I must admit this is often a reason I decide not to buy a perfume. I know I could get an atomizer but I can?t be bothered with filling it up and trying to get rid of the old perfume...
