...Rossignol soft ski boots are possibly the best skiing product for recreational skiers' since someone first strapped bits of wood to their feet. Soft boots are quite different from the 'normal' boots in that rather than a solid outer shell which holds your ankle and leg rigidly in place they are like tough padded lace up boots with some solid casing in strategic places. This has good points and bad points depending on your skiing style but for most 'normal' skiers they are the dogs whatsits! So - I have been skiing for 15 years but I'm too lazy to do anything too exciting and I've not pushed myself beyond a pretty good intermediate - therefore I don't need highly technical equipment. I ski for about 2 or 3 weeks a year if I'm lucky and I'm probably exactly the target market for these boots. (You can get different grades...

Review of Rossignol Soft Light Boots

Ski of the year in some mags - I'm not surprised!

Advantages: Go anywhere do almost anything - on snow, of course!
Disadvantages: Snow melts :o(

...There I was wandering round the Ski Show at the NEC looking for my dream ski - Salomon's X-Scream Series - at a decent price. I found it several times over, but as usual, overpriced for what they were. Salomon's never seem to be bargains, in my experience. Then the boss of my favourite holiday company suggested looking at Rossignol's Bandit B2. According to him, the French ski shops loved them. Intrigued, I wandered around again looking for them. No luck. They didn't seem to be there. Disappointed, I went home and decided to look on the net for this mysterious ski. I didn't find much there, either. I began to wonder if they really existed. A week or two later, I bought a skiing magazine that had a review of all the upcoming 2004 skis. And in there, was a review of the mythical beast that was the Rossi B2, along with it's siblings...

Review of Rossignol Bandit B2 Skis

They have barely changed in 2 years - Wonder Why!?

Advantages: Durability, speed and control - Superb!!
Disadvantages: There's no snow!

...Rossignol have kept these bad boys pretty much the same for the past 2 seasons simply because there is nothing they could do to make them better! These skis are guaranteed fun, on or off-piest. I'm going to keep them for at least 10 years. Not quite as fast as my old school Rossignol 198's but then again Bandits are like paddles in comparison. The wide structure does help them cruise nicely over powder and still leaves you with a great degree of control on piested runs as well! Perfect ski for those of an intermediate or advanced level. Very hard to fault them but I would say they need tip guards as these do tend to get a little cut up. Not really a fault, just a good idea if you want to keep them looking as slick as they did when you bought them....

Review of Rossignol Bandit B2 Skis

Ride Timeless

Advantages: probably one of the best boards on the market
Disadvantages: Won't except anything less than full throttle

...I have been snowboarding for 5 years now. I started off with a hand me down Rossignol board but the time came last year (after a lot of saving) to get myself a nice shiny new one! I'm into having fun on the mountain - which lets face it is what snowboarding is all about - be it ripping up the piste, putting in some powder turns or jibing in the park. After a lot of deliberation i decided to go for the ride timeless, and here's why : General Performance The timeless is mainly a freeride board and for this kind of riding it's exceptional. But you can also count of it for all round mountain performance. You can literally take this board to mach 3 and it will still be smooth and responsive, no chatter to speak of. This means that it is not a board for the feint hearted (no pussys please) and it?s just not happy to go at any speed...

Review of Ride Timeless

The Sound of Music - in reform school

Advantages: The music, the picture of bygone days
Disadvantages: A bit sentimental, about as Hollywood as a French film gets

It's a remake/adaptation of a very obscure French film, from the 1940s, "La cage aux rossignols" (The cage of nightingales - possibly a more memorable and meaningful title?). It's Barratier's first movie. In some ways it has a Hollywood feel, rather than a French feel. You know, there's a proper story to it, a beginning an end, and the prologue/epilogue structure is a very familiar device as well. There's an element of predictability to the tale, in many ways, but that's not always a bad thing. There are definite echoes of "Goodbye Mr Chips" and "Mr Holland's Opus", but there are probably no new stories anymore are there? At times, despite the obvious French film tag, it feels like we're being...

Review of The Chorus DVD

Funday River

Advantages: Great slopes, no queues, fast lifts, fantastic snow, lovely accomodation
Disadvantages: flights etc. make more costly than europe

.... The quality of the ski hire was very high, the ski's were all very new Rossignol Carving skis and the boots were very well kept. It was after getting our skis we were released into our ski lessons and let loose on the slopes. What fine slopes they are. As I have now been twice to Sunday River I have experience both as a newbie and as a fairly experienced skier. Both times I found I never ran out of slopes I could try, either just to cruise on or to really test my abilities to the limits. The resort has a huge number of blue/green slopes in the centre with black and double black diamond slopes higher up and to the sides of the resort. One thing I particularly liked were the glade runs, which I used a lot on my returning to sunday river. Areas of the forest the resort is situated in had been cut back slightly making for restricted but possible...
