Rotel RCD-06 cd player

Advantages: Solid Build, Looks, Good sound production, price
Disadvantages: Slighlty uncontrolled bass, no optical out may put some off

...out for rca lead and a digital coaxial output, it has no optical connection though which i wan't fussed about as i am using it as a transport, and to be honest digital coax is the better of the 2 IMO. Now as mine is used a transport( i think i've mentioned that already) its not actually using the internal dac of the cd player, so the actual sound processing is done by my Dac-X (£1200) , So for this review i disconnected the Dac-x and am using the rotel as a standalone player. Now this player cost me £300 (rrp £350) so its not really going to compare when run through a £1200 Dac, but i'm still confident this player will perform well. I'm using a Cyrus PreVs2 pre amp Audiolab 8000m mono bloc power amps and Totem Arro speakers ( see seperate review) Now when ever i test or demo a piece of hi-fi equipment i tend to use a select choice...

ROTEL RA-01

Advantages: real hi-fi sound !
Disadvantages: not much for the money!

...I have owned this amp now for about 18 months and i still enjoy listening to music through it , i have the amp connected to a pair of quad 11L speakers a cambridge audio cd and digitail tuner and a project turntable. The ROTEL RA-01 is a intergrated amp with five inputs including a mm phono input for turntable Tone controls bass and treble , with a tone defeat switch (switches the bass and treble off keeping the sound as close to the original as possible). Two pairs of speakers can be connected with switching between the pairs or both pairs of speakers on at the same time.(4 in total) Power handling is 2 x 40 watts ,8 ohms , don't be put of by what seems to be a low power rating this amp will go far louder than you can imagine , how loud a hi fi can go is down to the sensitivity of the speakers (i.e how easy they can be...

fifa 06

Advantages: good commentary, nice menus, good gameplay overall
Disadvantages: a 1 second glicth after pressing a button

...fifa 06 is an enjoyable game, which is diffucult to put down once you have started playing with it. Many think that the pro evo series is far better than the fifa one, but i would tend to disagree. Having played both pro evo 5 and fifa 06, fifa is far the better game. Pro evo 5 is almost the same as Pro evo 4 but with a few updated teams like arsenal. Whereas fifa 06 has improved far much compared to fifa 05 which was rather poor. fifa 06 has decent commentary and anaylisis from andy gray which makes the game more life-like. There are many good songs on fifa 06 including 1 from hard-fi, oasis and jarmeriqi. The graphics are decent and there are many well known stadiums in the game. Manager mode is a 15 year in depth game which is much like championship manager but you can play the game yourself. The fifa challenges are enjoyable aswell...

...Tesco Value is a range that seems to offer cheap basic goods that do the job as intended... and the Tesco Value IR06 Steam Iron offers just that! It is ridiculously cheap for an iron (costing under a fiver!) and works reasonably well. It is a simple iron that doesn't boast many features and is not complicated in the slightest. It does the job but not as easily as with a better quality iron. I have had it for three years now and it still works fine. It offers standard features of steam, spray, and temperature control. It looks neat but has a lot of plastic! It is very light for an iron and requires effort in removing stubborn creases - but it does work! Therefore it is likely to suit a user who doesn't iron too often. Definitely good value for money and it does the job as intended! I would recommend it to a user who doesn't care so...
