Rotel RCD-06 cd player

Advantages: Solid Build, Looks, Good sound production, price
Disadvantages: Slighlty uncontrolled bass, no optical out may put some off

...out for rca lead and a digital coaxial output, it has no optical connection though which i wan't fussed about as i am using it as a transport, and to be honest digital coax is the better of the 2 IMO. Now as mine is used a transport( i think i've mentioned that already) its not actually using the internal dac of the cd player, so the actual sound processing is done by my Dac-X (£1200) , So for this review i disconnected the Dac-x and am using the rotel as a standalone player. Now this player cost me £300 (rrp £350) so its not really going to compare when run through a £1200 Dac, but i'm still confident this player will perform well. I'm using a Cyrus PreVs2 pre amp Audiolab 8000m mono bloc power amps and Totem Arro speakers ( see seperate review) Now when ever i test or demo a piece of hi-fi equipment i tend to use a select choice...

ROTEL RA-01

Advantages: real hi-fi sound !
Disadvantages: not much for the money!

...I have owned this amp now for about 18 months and i still enjoy listening to music through it , i have the amp connected to a pair of quad 11L speakers a cambridge audio cd and digitail tuner and a project turntable. The ROTEL RA-01 is a intergrated amp with five inputs including a mm phono input for turntable Tone controls bass and treble , with a tone defeat switch (switches the bass and treble off keeping the sound as close to the original as possible). Two pairs of speakers can be connected with switching between the pairs or both pairs of speakers on at the same time.(4 in total) Power handling is 2 x 40 watts ,8 ohms , don't be put of by what seems to be a low power rating this amp will go far louder than you can imagine , how loud a hi fi can go is down to the sensitivity of the speakers (i.e how easy they can be...

TomTom - 930T review

Advantages: sleek black finish and pocket-sized build.
Disadvantages: Expensive

...The 930T is nicely designed, with a sleek black finish and pocket-sized build. There are few controls on the exterior save for a power button, but the interface is so well designed that this isn't really a problem. On-screen buttons are large and easily accessible, and the massive range of features on offer has been effectively condensed into an intuitive menu structure. Tapping the map view opens the main menu, from which you can plan a route in a number of ways, pair a mobile phone via Bluetooth, manage favourites, itineraries and maps and access music and media. The 'Help Me' feature offers guides, advice and instant directions and contact details for emergency services, and a range of preferences offers full control over customising the interface and information provided en-route.The 930T we have here is the top-end model...

DVPNS930V The best eighty quid I never spent!

Advantages: Simply superb results, hard to beat at the price
Disadvantages: Some of your CDs might not sound as good as you thought they were

...for sound and one for video, if a single unit could accommodate both with reasonable ease. As I felt the sound on the Marantz was pretty good, I set myself a budget of a couple of hundred quid (that's a ton for each of the two functions it will have) A quick check on the Sony UK page revealed that the DVPNS930V just about fitted the bill, if a little over budget, at a suggested £300. That gets you (according to the blurb) a slimline silver, or more importantly black player, which offers a region 2, Pal Progressive Scan, QS components (whatever they are), sound quality and performance, Aluminium front panel 108/12 bit V.DAC Multi-channel SACD and NTSC Progressive scan (come to think of it, there can't be that many region 2 NTSC DVDs about, but so what, all my DVDs are region 2 PAL) That in itself didn't really give very much away. I...

HP 930C Versus 950C And Epson Equivalents

Advantages: Does all types of printing quickly and quietly
Disadvantages: Replacement cartridges can be expensive compared to other manufacturers unless you buy overseas (Spain)

...Okay, to start with I work in the computer trade, so I see products come and go. At work we do lots of point of sale displays, which are usually A4 sized with a large colourful header and some bullet points in large black text. I can without hesitation recommend the Hewlett Packard 930C for its excellent print quality and speed. The documents are printed directly from Photoshop 5 and the results on cheap copier paper are fantastic. But for a real test I printed out a picture of my baby son (for testing purposes, honestly!). The picture was taken on a Kodak 200 Plus at high resolution and printed directly from internet explorer, on copier paper with the HP cranked right up to the highest print quality (1200 DPI, I believe). The finished picture was excellent, and I now keep it to show customers how good the printer can be even...

HP DESKJET 930C or best printer

Advantages: see write
Disadvantages: see write

...In addition to my laser printer of Canon, I have employed this ink jet printer for a year approx. from Hewlett Packard. Optical maser color printers in recent years became more favorable indeed, however, are non-afford (ex 3.000 marks) for standard measure mortal still. There is generally a very positive evolution at the ink jet printers. After one comments at the beginning mocking while showing his ink jet expression still often as "aha, inks shine, that sees man" would harvest, can itself the quality of new generation of ink jet printers as a rule more than are able be seen. Around it also have I my initially abysmal aversion to inks shine overcome and me the HP 930 C of train hotted up. Enough of the pre-speech. The report is subdivided into the following 6 items: Current 1st print quality 2nd price 3rd print rate...

Diamond review  HP DeskJet 930c Printer, an owners opinion

Advantages: Small footprint, ease of use and reliability
Disadvantages: Cost of running and paper storage

...did get one, which seems to becoming a trend, is that the supplied cartridges where specially manufactured for shipping with new printers and only contained a third of the their possible ink capacity. Therefore it is recommended to purchase some spares at the same time. Hmmmmmmmmm!! Installation on the other hand was much more simple and easier than most as Windows(98SE)detected it and installed the software automatically - put disk in, switch on and presto for printing in no time. It was originally linked to a Celeron 500 and happily chugged out all sorts of stuff from text to images to charts and graphs. It is now attached to a 2Mhz PC so system requirements should not be much of a problem. Therefore, the 930c printer in my opinion, comes highly recommended not for its value but more for its reliability and the number HP have sold...

Great little camera for new users to the digital world

Advantages: Size, weight, ease of use, zoom capabilities.
Disadvantages: For the price you would expect to get a case and memory card.

...It was not difficult to choose the DSC-S930 as my everyday camera. I take it everywhere due to it's compactness, lightness and ease of use. The LCD (Liquid Crysal Display) virtually takes up the whole of the back panel, allowing pictures to be viewed easily and clearly. The controls are very simple to understand and use too. All in all, it really is a great little camera for the first time user. It is not the cheapest camera on the market but has 10.1 megapixels meaning the quality of the picture is far superior. Considering the size of the mp's, it makes it good value for money. The menu has large text to read and again, is simple to understand. You are not bombarded with lots of images as with each option, you are given a 'laymens-terms' description of what each option will do and why you may need it. i.e.when setting to take...

One to Withstand the Tests of Time

Advantages: fantastic smooth sound, "analogue touch", very good reading of scratched CDs, best buy
Disadvantages: no optical digital output, scarce functionality

...It was a typical phenomenon. I was perfectly happy with my Rotel CD player. Excellent sound, solid construction and all the functionality I needed. Until I discovered its successor. Suddenly my old CD-player, looked old-fashioned and had the appeal of a worn off antique sofa. The product in question is the Rotel RCD-950, a £350 CD-Player, top-rankings player in its price range, recipient of endless awards from the major audiophile publications, and sex-symbol of stereophiles seeking a budget entry to the world of high-end equipment, until, well until the RCD-951 entered the market in late 1998 for the same price. I immediately went to my Rotel dealer, left a deposit and took the new RCD-951 home for a week, and expected my 950 to look really old when tested against the 951. Surprisingly (considering how easily I usually waste money...
