Rotel RCD-06 cd player
Advantages: Solid Build, Looks, Good sound production, price
Disadvantages: Slighlty uncontrolled bass, no optical out may put some off
...out for rca lead and a digital coaxial output, it has no optical connection though which i wan't fussed about as i am using it as a transport, and to be honest digital coax is the better of the 2 IMO.
Now as mine is used a transport( i think i've mentioned that already) its not actually using the internal dac of the cd player, so the actual sound processing is done by my Dac-X (£1200) , So for this review i disconnected the Dac-x and am using the rotel as a standalone player.
Now this player cost me £300 (rrp £350) so its not really going to compare when run through a £1200 Dac, but i'm still confident this player will perform well.
I'm using a

ROTEL RA-01
Advantages: real hi-fi sound !
Disadvantages: not much for the money!
...I have owned this amp now for about 18 months and i still enjoy listening to music through it , i have the amp connected to a pair of quad 11L speakers a cambridge audio cd and digitail tuner and a project turntable.
The ROTEL RA-01 is a intergrated amp with five inputs including a mm phono input for turntable
Tone controls bass and treble , with a tone defeat switch (switches the bass and treble off keeping the sound as close to the original as possible).
Two pairs of speakers can be connected with switching between the pairs or both pairs of speakers on at the same time.(4 in total)
Power handling is 2 x 40 watts ,8 ohms , don't be put of by what seems to be a low power rating this amp will go far louder than you can imagine , how loud a hi fi can go is down to the sensitivity of the speakers (i.e how easy they can be...

BMW R1100RT. The riders bike.
Advantages: Weather protection, comfort, handling, fuel range etc.
Disadvantages: Poor headlamp, people think you are too old for bikes when you buy a BMW
...The BMW R1100RT is by far the BEST moorcycle for someone who likes touring at high (or low) speeds, and who likes to cover large distances at the same time. I have been riding for 37 years and have riden every type of machine there are. I feel the bMW is the best machine I have ever owned (up to now) I like the comfort. The weather protection, The handling, and the performance. On paper it isn't that quick, and to be fair it isn't, but we all know that figures are not true to life. This bike will (with a good rider) give most sport bike riders a run for their money. But when they are getting off to renew their circulation and filling up with fuel, you will be flying past, leaving them in your wake. Typically 200-250 miles without stopping is easy to achieve.
Load space is superb too. With the panniers off the bike, you still have acres...

BMW RT1100 v RT1150
Advantages: handling, performance, functionality
Disadvantages: Price, BMW dealerships being too busy at the moment!
...So the new 1150 RT is out, with many similarities but some big differences to the 1100. I've got a 2000 RT and have tested the 1150 and confess to being impressed, but not overly. Not enough to warrant a trade in for sure!
The 1100 is a great bike and should not be under-estimated. It certainly keeps up well enough with the sporty 600s upto 110mph and is guaranteed to leave you feeling less ruffled, dryer, warmer and a lot more smug than the sports bike riders.
Personally, I prefer the looks and characters of the BMW brigade, so the Honda Pan European wasn't an option. If it was, that would be a difficult choice!
So what about the 1150? Waiting lists are long and dealerships are really busy at the moment - is it worth the wait? I have to say no! Sure the new linked brakes offer fantastic stopping power (touch the rear brake...

Renault Megane 1.6 RT Sport, Garlic on the go
Advantages: Comfort, Economy, Brakes
Disadvantages: Gearbox, A few minor niggles, Gearbox
...As a part time (employed) motor mechanic I would never have bought a French car but this Megane 1.6RT Sport came up very cheap on 86000 miles with the clutch shot to bits. (NOT a joy to replace) The car was a genuine one owner with a full service history, from the original main dealer. Overall it has given 14 months (10000 miles) of reliable if uninspiring motoring)
What's good about the Megane
Fuel consumption, it seems to go forever on £20.
Comfort,
Plenty of extras.
General reliability.
The engine is very willing, especially when taken over 3500 rpm, though there's precious little bottom end torgue.
Brakes are lovely,
What's not so good about the Megane
The gearbox. (2nd gear synchro is knackered on ours)
The steering has little or no feel. You'd be off the road into the scenery before there was any...

Renault Laguna 2.2 RT Diesel Estate
Advantages: Comfort, Huge load area, Decent handling
Disadvantages: Horribly slow, and not that great on fuel
...walked in front waving a flag, the flag waver would have kept stopping for a cuppa so you could catch up.
So all that happens when a car has no BHP per ton, is that you end up driving with your foot flat on the floor all the time. And the result of course is miserable MPG. Pointless. TOP TIP then: Buy turbo diesel or 2.0 petrol.
Other than that, the Laguna makes a nice car. The cabin is huge - much bigger than a Mondeo or Primera, and the seats are more comfortable than your favorite pair of old slippers. The estates load area is equally impressive. The 1996 'RT' trim level is nothing to shout about although the sunroof is electric rather than the manual version of its rivals.
The handling is very good for a car of this size - a nice compromise between soft and comfortable, and decent road-holding. The steering gives good feedback...

One to Withstand the Tests of Time
Advantages: fantastic smooth sound, "analogue touch", very good reading of scratched CDs, best buy
Disadvantages: no optical digital output, scarce functionality
...It was a typical phenomenon. I was perfectly happy with my Rotel CD player. Excellent sound, solid construction and all the functionality I needed. Until I discovered its successor. Suddenly my old CD-player, looked old-fashioned and had the appeal of a worn off antique sofa.
The product in question is the Rotel RCD-950, a £350 CD-Player, top-rankings player in its price range, recipient of endless awards from the major audiophile publications, and sex-symbol of stereophiles seeking a budget entry to the world of high-end equipment, until, well until the RCD-951 entered the market in late 1998 for the same price.
I immediately went to my Rotel dealer, left a deposit and took the new RCD-951 home for a week, and expected my 950 to look really old when tested against the 951. Surprisingly (considering how easily I usually waste money...

CLIO 1.4 RT
Advantages: good value, extras for an older car, nice looks
Disadvantages: interior a little cheap looking
...I have owned my clio 1.4 RT for a year and a half now and think it is a great runner. The car exterior looks great and benefits from front fog lights and metallic paint with colour coded bumpers, this gives the car a more sporty feel. My clio is only 1999, yet has good extras for a car of this age, it comes with electric windows and sunroof as well as central locking.
The interior is spacious for a small car and seats are very comfortable, my dad sometimes drives my car, hes is 6ft2 and had no probelems. Boot space is ample have often fitted 2 prams in! The dash area could do with an update as it is all grey plastic. However the doors do have cloth to match the seats, this is much better than exposed metal seen in cars such as the Ka.
The performance is great and the car is really quick off the mark, overtaking is easy, The car...

Good Rhythm
Advantages: Realistic drum sounds, inexpensive, can synchronise with MIDI equipment
Disadvantages: Expandability limited to user defined patterns
...The Zoom RhythmTrack RT-123 is a good quality and fairly inexpensive (about £120) drum machine. Aesthetically it looks good, with a very compact body (dimensions are 20cm * 25cm), and the unit has a hard, transparent blue casing.
It can produce backing patterns made up of two drum tracks and one bass track. There are 297 preset patterns, providing a wide variety of popular rhythms - everything from Hip Hop to Stadium Rock! 99 additional patterns can be programmed in and stored by the user.
You can create a backing sequence (song) with up to 99 patterns, and as many as 99 songs can be stored. The RT-123 comes with a demo song pre-loaded which gives a good indication of the type of output you can create with a bit of practice.
The pads light up when the sound is played, which is useful for non-drummers, to see how the rhythms...
