Belkin ADSL2+ High-Speed Mode Wireless-G Router
Advantages: Very stable, good speed
Disadvantages: Not a pretty boy, yet to get remote admin working
...Wireless routers have recently become the bane of my professional life. Having had major issues with 2 (relatively new models) wireless routers from an allegedly top manufacturer that I have been installing and configuring equipment from professionally for over 9 years.
5 replacements under warranty with exact and similar models failed to cure constant lockups and wireless connection drop outs being experienced by my client, often within hours of replacement!
Nearing the end of my client's patience, there being little hair on my scalp left to forcibly extract and with my Valium prescription running low, I decided to try the router I have been using without major issue at home for the last 18 months.
Mindful of the fact that in my clients environment the router's workload/ feature set usage would be totally different...

Linksys's Lightning fast wireless router
Advantages: Fast speeds, Reliable, Stylish
Disadvantages: I had wireless problems, Gets a bit warm, no restart router option in config
...The Linksys WAG160N N300 is an ADSL2+ wireless modem router, meaning it has a a modem built in. It is for use with BT Internet connections rather than for use with a Cable broadband connection (i.e. Virgin) although a Cable version is also available. It?s an ADSL2 router, which means it supports the newer ADSL standard, which could mean faster transfer speeds although this really depends on your line quality, distance from Exchange, service with ISP, etc. The router currently costs £74.99 from PC World but a bit less at £59.99 on their website. I bought mine about 8 months ago on Ebuyer for around £55.
IN THE BOX
You receive two ADSL filter
s, RJ11 cable, user manual, manual and software CD, power adapter and lastly, the router itself.
THE ROUTER ITSELF
One thing I quite like about the router is that it looks quite...

Superfast Netgear 270Mb wireless ADSL2 router
Advantages: Superfast 270mbs network, looks sexy, stands up, secure
Disadvantages: Needs compatible WN311B RangeMax Next card for 270mbs
...When I first heard of this product, I really wasn't convinced. First of all Netgear's claim that it can operate at 270mb which is more than 2 times that of a standard home/office 10/100mb network and a good deal more than my old 54g (30mb+/-) router's speed, had to be tested. Secondly this was in draft N standard, meaning that it is not yet been made official or standard, so how would it perform in my own home?
I just had to try it.......
First thing you will need if your after the speed this router provides, is to get yourself a compatible Netgear WN311B PCI card or one of the netgear RangeMax usb sticks, as there is no way you would hope to get the full speed on another manufacturers card, you may, but why take the risk of purchasing?
So with this router and a compatible card your all set. I am assuming you already have...

Zyxel ADSL2+ Wireless Router
Advantages: Easy Install, 4-Port & Wireless, Reliable
Disadvantages: -
...Wireless Settings.
The Router is compatible with ADSL speeds right through to ADSL2+ so it is a great modem if you can only get ADSL now but your ISP is planning to roll out ADSL2 or 2+ soon.
The greatest thing about this router is the Wired and Wireless option. The ethernet hub on the rear of the router allows for up to 4 PC's to be connected at 100Mbps, and the Wireless allows for multiple (lots) of wireless connections of speeds up to 54Mbps. The modem is compatible with Wireless protocols 802.11b (11Mbps) and 802.11g (54Mbps)
The wireless option is made particularly secure by being compatible with several security schemes. Ranging from WEP (64 - 256bit) and WPA, as well as RADIUS authentication. These security features are essential. Making the Security features even stronger is the potential to filter by MAC address (Basically you...

NetGear DG834N Wireless Router
Advantages: Great stable router with great range and speed
Disadvantages: None found yet
...Picking a router is pretty difficult these days.
There are an awful lot of routers out there and it is very, very difficult to choose the right one for you. The obvious things to consider are
? Price
? Ease of use/Ease of set up
? Speed
? Range
? After sales support
The more technical would also consider the functionality offered.
The DG834N ticks the right boxes in each of these areas.
Out of the box the router looks rather sleek. It's a white box roughly the same size of a hardback book. Some yellowish flashing lights at the front inform you whether the router is switched on, whether it's connected to the internet, and whether it is transmitting a wireless signal. It also has no external aerials which I'll come back to in a moment.
The router comes with the standard 4 Ethernet ports and supports both ADSL and ADSL2+ and as far as I...

Buffalo WBMR-G54 wireless router - a real buffalo?
Advantages: Reasonable price, easy to use, lots of advanced settings
Disadvantages: installation firewall issue, signal strengh only reasonable
...I bought this router from a local Argos shop at an emergency situation i.e. I want it now and therefore not at the best price - 49.99.
Reason: My all singing and all dancing Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-EG - wireless router had lost its main function, 'internet connectivity' after a month or so of continuous use (see my other review, now updated, for details). All is left is wireless communication i.e. useless. The return of this router back to Amazon caused me a week (lots of emails + recorded delivery + check that the refund includes the recorded delivery etc)
For Argos, there is an obvious advantage - if there is something wrong with it, I just take it back for a refund/replacement on the same day.
This router comes with detail instructions (step-by-step) for installation however it does not cater for the presence of a firewall...

A great first Router with future support of ADSL2+
Advantages: Easy setup, good security, lots of features, great price
Disadvantages: not mimo compatible
...I was actually looking to buy a wired router for my home network, but when i came across this wireless one, which was only £4 more than an equivalent wired one, i couldn't resist, and i'm glad i didn't.
It has all the credentials of being a great router.
WPA 2 encryption (the strongest you can currently get to stop people hacking into your wireless network).
It has an inbuilt ADSL modem capable of speeds up to 24Mbps when the new ADSL2+ protocol is rolled out (which has already begun in London and other major cities)
4 port 10/100 network switch, so you can connect 4 computers to it, and they can all share files and printers like in a normal network.
It has a standardised pop-out connection for adding an external high-gain antennae.
It looks great and takes up very little room.
I has a SPI (Stateful Packet...

What a Beltin' Belkin Router!!
Advantages: Great wireless range, Futureproof, Nice looking, Fast!
Disadvantages: Some may say it looks a little chunky
...of forwarding all the correct ports and making sure all aspects of the setup are working.
The Wireless range of the Belkin surprised me - I was 3 houses down the road from mine with my laptop at a friend's house, and as soon as Windows booted up the laptop got a 'Good' strength signal from the router! This is quite worrying, mainly due to the fact my old DLink router would freak out if you went more than 15-20 feet away from it. Signals would drop out, packets would get lost and Web pages would half load.
Setting up the ADSL connection is also very easy with the Belkin router. Simply plug the router in, turn it on, connect your PC to it and tap 192.168.2.1 in to Internet Explorer to bring up the first Setup page. And, err, that's all there is to it.
The router's ability to connect to ADSL-2 when the service goes mainstream is also a big plus...

stable, reliable router
Advantages: bullet proof, future proof, idiot proof
Disadvantages: too new to be great value for money
...We bought one of these through work to handle our company 2mb ADSL connection.
As with all linksys units this is well made and behaves nicely. the 4 port switch is as fast as it's supposed to be.
The setup is as hard as you want to make it. there are lots and lots of screens that can be used to tune your internet experience down to fine details, it contains URL blocking, IP, MAC and bad word filtering and you can set it to only allow specific computers to access the net - as if the unit wants to be a proxy server when it grows up.
We selected this router specifically because we were looking long term at getting an SDsl connection when it became available and this router is one of very few which will handle that technology (sdsl has the same incoming and out going available bandwidth, rather than adsl which has more incoming...

Good, solid router.
Advantages: Good price, good range, trusted manufacturer, easy to use software.
Disadvantages: Sometimes needs to be re-booted.
...I changed from a Netgear wireless router (still working fine at my mums house) to this Belkin ADSL 2+ about 9 months ago. The main reason for the change was because my Netgear router just wasn't powerful enough to work on my laptop when I was in some of the rooms downstairs. This is not a problem with the Belkin and I tend to get good or excellent coverage in most rooms in my house.
The Belkin also came with a USB receiver which works well on my desktop PC.
The User Interface (UI) that comes with the Belkin is straightforward to use and it can be secured quite easily and quickly once connected. I personally prefer the Netgear UI, although not enough to worry about too much.
I occasionally find myself having to unplug then power up the router so that my laptop can find it OK. I do not know why this is, but I had similar...
