Router minefield!!!

Advantages: ease of setup,reliable connection
Disadvantages: not the fastest on the market

...When looking to go wireless in the computer world it is an absolute minefield when it comes to wireless routers/modems. I sat at my latop(tethered to the telephone socket with wires) scouring google for write ups about this router and that router when i came across this one. Now this is rated as being the best selling router/modem in the UK and has been for some time. I think i paid around £40 from ebuyer.com. I chose it because of the fact its reasonably priced. Its a good trustworthy brand and it seemed to come up to scratch on speed. Upon opening the box the installation was very simple indeed. I just followed the instructions that came with the router and hey prsto i was wireless on my laptop.Software is easy to install and self explanatory. ...The BBC`s rather bold policy of showing five series of The Wire back-to-back during the spring and summer evenings is very welcome as it annoying, and certainly all rather frantic if you want to keep up, video tapes piling up by our TVs as the excellent American cop series goes out at that post Newsnight, BBC2, 11:15pm weekday slot. It's a complete mystery why they didn't put it on the 9 pm weekday slot to build its popularity and so drag it out for two years it's that good and intelligent viewing for that anti-ITV prime-time slot. Series one reflected the Black American drug culture of the City of Baltimore, through the eyes of the police, the legislature, the local politicians and the black criminal underclass themselves, their methods not that different from the good guys in getting the job done, whoever the good guys are...

Great Multimedia Wireless Router from Belkin

Advantages: Reliable, Fast, Easy to configure, Lots of features, USB for sharing drives
Disadvantages: Bit expensive, Not full speed with every machine

...and I generally get good download and upload speeds despite this anyway. Only thing is, transferring files within the network isn?t as fast as I?d like from my laptop. This router does boast it has the ?Best? speed and coverage as opposed to the lower end routers in the range which only give you ?Good? or ?Better? speed and coverage so the lower speed on my laptop may be due to some sort of incompatibility. Wireless range is good though as I can get at least a good signal around the house. Don?t know what the maximum speed is for this router but I?m guessing 300Mbits? Compared to the router that came with my broadband with BE, web pages do seem to download quicker. Wireless aside, the router also has four Ethernet ports so you could plug PCs and network devices in directly should that be convenient as wired connections are always more...

Belting Belkin Router!

Advantages: Fairly easy to set up, easy to use, reliable, looks good.
Disadvantages: Bandwidth Innacurate.

...in the garden, then you shouldn't have any big connection issues (dropping connection etc) due to its proximity? unless you live in a big house with a big garden of course. You should check Belkins website to make sure this router will provide the coverage you need though as I wouldn't want to just assume it would for the purpose of this review. It also means that my dad can use my connection from his house next door if his net ever goes down (although he'd need me to give him the security password which I shall talk about below) as our network shows up on his laptop when he's reconnecting to his home network haha. This also reinforces the security aspect that I will address in a few moments as you don't know who else can pick up your network on a wireless search within your area! Setting up was relatively easy, connect all the wires...

It is for use with BT Internet connections rather than for use with a Cable broadband connection (i.e. Virgin) although a Cable version is also available.
