The reason for the upgrade to the 2950 was due to the VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection being slow with the previous models. This was probably due to the processor in the router not being powerful enough to encrypt and decrypt the data more quickly. ...Or rather not quite £66, more like £61.99 ? but then I wouldn?t have been able to pun on the famous Rolling Stones track in the title and that would have been an opportunity missed! Well, a router is used when you want to share an internet connection between two or more computers, and I find myself writing about the Netgear ADSL Firewall Router DG834 thanks to my Sister asking me to set up a network on her two computers so that her AOL broadband connection could be shared. Of course therein lay the first issue, AOL is not like other ISP`s in that it has up to now been impossible to sign on with more than one screen-name, but thanks to AOL finally embracing the whole Networking ethos and offering support to a handful of routers there was to be no more barriers in spreading...

Router minefield!!!

Advantages: ease of setup,reliable connection
Disadvantages: not the fastest on the market

...When looking to go wireless in the computer world it is an absolute minefield when it comes to wireless routers/modems. I sat at my latop(tethered to the telephone socket with wires) scouring google for write ups about this router and that router when i came across this one. Now this is rated as being the best selling router/modem in the UK and has been for some time. I think i paid around £40 from ebuyer.com. I chose it because of the fact its reasonably priced. Its a good trustworthy brand and it seemed to come up to scratch on speed. Upon opening the box the installation was very simple indeed. I just followed the instructions that came with the router and hey prsto i was wireless on my laptop.Software is easy to install and self explanatory. ...I would highly recommend this Router to either a networking novice or professional looking to setup a home or small office network. I was surprised at how easy this was to setup and configure in my environment. After connecting the few cables and rebooting my PC's, everything seemed great though I could not connect to the Internet. I realised that I have not restarted my Cable Modem and after doing so eveything linked correctly and could again access the internet. On reading the documentation I realised I should have done this initially, however this omission was down to my normal method of only reading the documentation after the installation.
