Linksys's Lightning fast wireless router
Advantages: Fast speeds, Reliable, Stylish
Disadvantages: I had wireless problems, Gets a bit warm, no restart router option in config
...The Linksys WAG160N N300 is an ADSL2+ wireless modem router, meaning it has a a modem built in. It is for use with BT Internet connections rather than for use with a Cable broadband connection (i.e. Virgin) although a Cable version is also available. It?s an ADSL2 router, which means it supports the newer ADSL standard, which could mean faster transfer speeds although this really depends on your line quality, distance from Exchange, service with ISP, etc. The router currently costs £74.99 from PC World but a bit less at £59.99 on their website. I bought mine about 8 months ago on Ebuyer for around £55.
IN THE BOX
You receive two ADSL filter
s, RJ11 cable, user manual, manual and software CD, power adapter and lastly, the router itself.
THE ROUTER ITSELF
One thing I quite like about the router is that it looks quite...

Great Multimedia Wireless Router from Belkin
Advantages: Reliable, Fast, Easy to configure, Lots of features, USB for sharing drives
Disadvantages: Bit expensive, Not full speed with every machine
...INTRO
The Belkin N+ router is one of the higher end (consumer) wireless modem router offerings from Belkin. It cost me £85 from PC World, but can probably be found for a bit less if you shop online. The Cable version costs a little less. Reason I bought this one was because two PCs in the house with wireless cards kept losing the wireless connection when I was using a Linksys router (my own PCs / laptops were fine though!). I replaced that with a second hand Belkin, which worked fine but unfortunately, a power cut killed the wireless on it. Liking the performance of that cheaper Belkin router, I decided to stick with Belkin and get this one!
DESIGN
The router looks very stylish and stands up tall rather than laid down flat. It doesn't appear to have been designed to be laid down flat like many other routers, which may be to...

Crappest wireless router, looks blue for a reason
Advantages: When it works it works
Disadvantages: Unreliable, slow, low range, ugly as a killer whale's backside
...One day, the father of networks wanted his progeny to evolve their wireless routers and hubs further. He gathered his four apprentices and told them to do so with strict instructions.
The first was Belkin. Belkin learnt from his old ways and became faster and more reliable than ever before.
The second was Netgear. It decided to take the reliable route as reliability was a better cause, and speed should take secondary priority, although is is rather fast.
The third was Buffalo. Contrary to Netgear, Buffalo took the speed path and have reliable as a secondary priority, although it is very reliable.
The last was Linksys. Seeing that his classmates have all taken the routes that he might have undergone, Linksys goes 'I know! I wont change at all! I will just add the word Wireless-G 54Mbps on my chest and paint it green...

Great Wireless Router...Eventually
Advantages: Fast, looks great, cheap
Disadvantages: Not easy to install!
...Having grown bored of using dial up internet I moved on to using an ADSL Modem but still found it aggravating having to plug my Laptop into the ADSL modem so decided to do a bit of research and invested in the Linksys WAG200G Wireless ADSL Modem Route.
The Linksys Wireless-G ADSL Home Gateway provides extremely fast connection to the Internet, far faster than a dial-up, and without tying up your phone line.
The built-in Wireless-G (802.11g) Access Point allows up to 32 wireless devices to connect to the network at 54Mbps, without having cables all over your house. It's also compatible with Wireless-B (802.11b) devices, at 11Mbps.
To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G ADSL Home Gateway features an advanced firewall to keep Internet intruders and attackers out. Wireless transmissions can be protected by powerful WPA...

Linksys Router
Advantages: Can hook up a few computers to it,can have a password
Disadvantages: slow transfer of big files between computers
...The last review was very good but I thought I would give one more about the product itself.
After purchasing a laptop it became apparent that I wouldnt want to run a cable from my broadband box to my laptop in order to use the internet especially when this is already plugged into my PC. The next logical step? By a wireless router and i'm assuming that if your are reading this then you will either be in this position or just cant be bothered with having cables all around your house anymore.
As the title says this is a Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless Access Point Router with 4-Port Switch. Fore this router to work you need to make sure that your broadband has an ETHERNET port otherwise you will need to find another router as you plug your broadband into this router via an ethernet cable in order for it to be able to send out the signal...

Linksys Wireless-G - Heh, It's Winking At Me
Advantages: New faster wi-fi standard. Easy to set-up
Disadvantages: None specific to Linksys, but wi-fi HAS to less secure than a wired LAN
...Just when you thought I?d gone soft, writing about interesting things like travel, here?s another one of my computer hardware jobs to bring you back to earth.
Unlike ?Two Sheds Jackson?, who was only thinking of getting two sheds, I?ve actually got three PCs, all of which are networked, two by being hard-wired to a broadband router and the third on the far end of a ?wi-fi? link down in the stygian depths of my house, or the dining room as it?s sometimes known.
My existing networking kit, also supplied by Linksys took care of all the shared access to the Telewest broadband internet service and any file and printer sharing that I may have set up between my PC, thus the main hub of this kit used to go under the lengthy title of ?combined broadband router/switch/wireless access point?.
WHY I UPGRADED ? AS IF I NEEDED A REASON...

Wireless-G Broadband router WRT54GC
Advantages: Very Small, wall mountable, good setup wizard
Disadvantages: Some technical jargon in initial setup
...Physically it is about the size of 2 cigarette packets side by side. However that is where the similarity stops, this is far more useful.
I upgraded as my previous routers wireless encryption was limited to WEP only, which I was informed was not very secure.
Thus the interesting specifications as I see it are:
The very small size and wall mountable option, although I had to tweak the mount as the intended screws must have a very small and flat head.
4 Ethernet ports for wired computers and a wireless network supporting 802.11b and g standards.
Built in Antennae thus nothing to attract little hands! In fact the only things protruding are the power and modem cables, very neat.
Wireless encryption includes 128 bit WEP, 128 bit WPA and 128 bit WPA-2, there are various choices to flavour these, which I wont mention as I do...

O Linksys, Linksys! wherefore art thou Linksys?
Advantages: Looks, price, reliablity, setup, functionality, ease of use
Disadvantages: None found so far
...they had available.
I saw a couple of NetGears, of which there are really very mixed reviews on their equipment. If you get a 'good' one, then it will serve you well, as mine previously did. Others - people have complete nightmares with.
Being the sort of person I am, I fancied a change.
I then came across the Linksys WAG200G. Looking at the specifications on the box, I could see all my basic requirements were covered. ADSL modem, with 4 port switch, wireless to G standards ( 54mbps ).
I hand over the debit card.... deals done.
I got home, and started to unpack my new purchase, even though I obviously saw what it looked like at the store, and on the box, I was quite surprised when I started to remove the contents from the box. The router is very well designed, very sleek looking and fits beautifully with my 'modern...

Linksys it all up nicely..
Advantages: Does everything asked of it
Disadvantages: Change the security settings as soon as you get it up and running.
..., power, filter, ADSL cable and one Ethernet network cable (you may need more if you are hard wiring as it has 4 ports). Instructions supplied are brief but in truth that's all that's needed and on the enclosed CD is a more substantial manual in PDF format. A trial of anti-virus software was also included.
Apart from what's supplied you are going to need some method of connecting up your client computers - newer PC's and laptop's are likely to have either a built in network or wireless card but if not you are going to need one. Note that many suppliers offer some sort of WiFi bundle with this model where you get a device for your PC/laptop also.
At this point I should point out the quick visual differences compared with the NetGear.
Firstly the Linksys model is somewhat larger than the white version 2 model of the NetGear router. It is...

Fantastic wireless router
Advantages: Doddle to setup, fast and very good signal
Disadvantages: A Little jargonated!
...I felt compelled to review this product, especially as one other review was so negative. You only have to look at a more hardware dedicated review site such as www.ebuyer.co.uk to see this router is something special.
I have used numerous routers, mainly high end ones from the likes of Vigor for cable and ADSL, and a few more user friendly ones from Netgear and the like, and this Linksys is by far and away the easiest to setup - simple short bullet points with no expectation that you know the ins and outs of wireless networking. Follow these and you really can't go wrong.
It is very quick too, the internet was slightly faster and more responsive than with the previous router but the best thing was the wireless signal strength. We have very dense walls and the wireless adapter is at a diagonal angle through it. This meant that...
