...This is the first 4x4 I have owned. The other cars on my drive are Japanese import sports cars which are low and very very fast. This is to some extent the complete opposite but is a wonderful experience. Our car was delivered in shining black with a black leather interior with .4 of a mile on the clock. Looks The car looks bigger than it actually is. It has a strong resemblance to its Range Rover big brother. It is lengthwise about the same size as the car it replaces for us, a Peugeot 407. But its height and rugged looks make it look a far bigger proposition though. The car has some tasteful silver coloured vents and trim which break up the all black look along with some tasty 19" alloys. Interior The interior is superb. Land rover Discovery TD5

Advantages: 4 wheel drive with lowering prices
Disadvantages: A little soft on cornering

...If you have the money to spare and are looking for a car that has Looks - Style - Comfort - Reliability and a real name that's had a good following over the years, I would highly recommend the Land rover Discovery. The biggest asset at the moment is that the price throughout the range has been reduced dramatically due to the recent changes in importation and dealership, and if you shop around you really can pick up an excellent deal, Even Secondhand. With the TD5 ( Turbo Diesel ), you get real quality even with the earlier models. The only drawback with the earlier ones is that the ride tends to be a bit bumpy, but having said that the early models are more economical to run in general averaging 30 - 35 MPG. The more recent models ( I.E 1997 Onward ) usually run at around 25 - 30 MPG, But obviously they are much more luxurious...

A Land Rover with the manners of an executive car.

Advantages: Exceptional towing vehicle, comfortable & reliable
Disadvantages: Quite sluggish

...I have owned many large, spacious and comfortable vehicles; both 4x4s and cars (Mitsibishi Shoguns, Mercedes...). However, now on my second Discovery (a '52 Reg' TD5 GS) I can safely say that the Land Rover has blitzed the others. It offers a unique blend of ruggedness and comfort without sacrificing luxury. When I bought my first Discovery, again a TD5 back in 2000, friends of mine were sceptical of my choice of Diesel over the V8 petrol. However, when they experienced the smoothness and adequacy of the Turbocharged 5-cylinder unit they quickly congratulated me on my choice. Also in terms of MPG the TD5 offers around 25-30 compared to the horrific consumption of the V8. Indeed it is the coupling of the engine and drivetrain which ultimately makes the Disco TD5, the abundance of torque is after all fundamental to any 4x4 especially...

Land Rover Discovery 2.5 TD5 GS 5 seat

Advantages: Excellent traction, driving good, bullet-proof, good residual values

...My Land Rover Discovery 2.5 TD5 GS is the 5-seat model, first registered in December 1999. It was bought in June 2000 for £20,000, having cost approximately £27,500 new. It had nearly 5000 miles on the clock. Bodywork was and is immaculate and the previous owner (a rural chemist) buys a new one quite frequently (every 6 months!). This car had also had lamp protectors and fog lamps fitted over the standard spec, with floor mats and mudflaps also fitted. The point at which bought it was just after the start of the drop in new and used prices and appeared to be priced to keep cash flow going as it has only depreciated by £2000 over 1 year. Rover 420 SDI 1998

Advantages: Practical, safe, reliable, rapid and comfortable.
Disadvantages: Group 11 insurance, not as rust proof as older Rover 200's, soggy suspension.

...I own a 1998 R Rover 420SDI with 104,000 miles. I paid £485 for it in 2007 with tax, mot and full history. It needed a bit of TLC due to it's last owner. (A few dents, etc) It is a very comfortable car and highly economical returning 70mpg / 600miles per tank on a run. It has ABS, electric windows x 4, cd x 6 and air con. I find it highly reliable, I am 6ft 1 and I have ample room as does my mate who is taller. Driver's airbag is standard in 1998, so is side-impact beams. It has a very strong chassis with a good size boot. Sadly the exterior metal is not as durable as the older Rover 200. Mine has a ITG air filter on it so it is probably kicking more out than the standard 105 bhp/ 210 Nm Torque. It is rapid, and it growls. It will cruise easily at 80mph and is not too loud like earlier diesels. Overall a very good car, I have only...

This is the second Rover I have owned the first being a old shape 1995 214 which was my Dad's but drove after passing my driving test at 17. Two and a half years later at the age of 19 and being very impressed with the 214 I decided to buy a Rover 75. I had a budget of under four grand so I decided to bite the bullet and buy a 75 from the auction. I knew pretty much what to look out for and finally bought a X reg 2001 1.8 classic with NO aircon in wedgwood blue. I really wanted a 2.0v6 connoisseur se but being 19 had to think about insurance!. The rover 214i - our best car yet

...I have just read some of the titles for other comments on Rovers, and quite frankly, I am suprised! We brought our 1.4 Rover 214i, 5door nearly two years ago, aged about 3 years when we brought it. Our requirements when we started searching for a car were that it had to be affordable (under 6 grand) and have five doors, and three diagonal seat belts in the back. We had first visited a Renault garage, where they had a megane suitable. The sales person had decided that we would buy it. However, promptly told us my husband and I couldn't both test drive it as they had to accompany us, and there was not enough room for our children. Who wouldn't you want a Land Rover Discovery?

Advantages: Good driving position, reliability, capacity
Disadvantages: MPG, rust, gearbox

...I recently bought a 1990 (G) 2.5TDI Land Rover Discovery and have been really impressed with the overall package so far. First of all the driving position is fantastic, you cannot get any better than being up high and being able to see everywhere, the 360 degree visiblity is also very good. The only part that is difficult is getting used to how they steer, the linkages are different to most cars so you can't make frequent, tiny adjustments or you can get a small wobble on. However drive one for an hour and you will master this. Don't go on a motorway straight away like me and then learn there! My Disco has done 140, 000 miles, the inside of the car isn't fantastic but it is still clean and once I'd polished it up it looks suprisingly good. The outside has minor marks such as paint bubbles on the rear arches but this is...

Rover 75 Diesels

Advantages: MPG..Toys..Insurance group..
Disadvantages: Bootspace..if anything !

...I'm on my 2nd Rover 75 now, a saloon with all the bells and whistles...I had the estate version on recommendation of a truly knowledgeable friend in the motor trade and loved it..then the leather clad, sunroofed Connosieur turned up at a laughable price so I went for it... Both versions offer a seriously cheap way to get a good strong car, wich is both comfortable and economical...mileage claims from fans vary between 45 and 55 mpg on the diesel 2ltr engine and that's got to be good enough..They'll tow anything and run all day on motorways or round the town... The interiors are fitted with enough toys to keep even the biggest gadget freak happy and electrically they're usually pretty good..a few ABS sensor problems and a bugger of a system for fuel delivery ( twin pumps) often means it's worth being nice to your local MG Rover...
