Rover 420 SDI 1998
Advantages: Practical, safe, reliable, rapid and comfortable.
Disadvantages: Group 11 insurance, not as rust proof as older Rover 200's, soggy suspension.
...I own a 1998 R Rover 420SDI with 104,000 miles. I paid £485 for it in 2007 with tax, mot and full history. It needed a bit of TLC due to it's last owner. (A few dents, etc)
It is a very comfortable car and highly economical returning 70mpg / 600miles per tank on a run.
It has ABS, electric windows x 4, cd x 6 and air con. I find it highly reliable, I am 6ft 1 and I have ample room as does my mate who is taller. Driver's airbag is standard in 1998, so is side-impact beams. It has a very strong chassis with a good size boot. Sadly the exterior metal is not as durable as the older Rover 200. Mine has a ITG air filter on it so it is probably kicking more out than the standard 105 bhp/ 210 Nm Torque.
It is rapid, and it growls. It will cruise easily at 80mph and is not too loud like earlier diesels. Overall a very good car, I have only...

ROVER AND OUT
Advantages: COMFORT, STYLE, REFINEMENT, TRADITIONAL ROVER VALUES
Disadvantages: NOT MADE ANYMORE
...It's time to write a review after owning a 75 for two and a half years, I now feel I know 75's rather well. This is the second Rover I have owned the first being a old shape 1995 214 which was my Dad's but drove after passing my driving test at 17. Two and a half years later at the age of 19 and being very impressed with the 214 I decided to buy a Rover 75.
I had a budget of under four grand so I decided to bite the bullet and buy a 75 from the auction. I knew pretty much what to look out for and finally bought a X reg 2001 1.8 classic with NO aircon in wedgwood blue. I really wanted a 2.0v6 connoisseur se but being 19 had to think about insurance!. Although a bog standard 75 it was in the lovely wedgwood blue which is one of the best colours in my opionion had just been serviced with a new cambelt was in superb condition with 102k...

My first car, and my first Rover!
Advantages: Cheap to buy, fantastic free revving K series engine, good spec, fantastic looks, great handling
Disadvantages: None
...Well I thought it was time I wrote a review on the very first car I ever owned.
This is the story of my Rover 214Si.
I was 19 years old when I started to learn to drive and look for that all important first car. I considered all makes and models ranging from vauxhall, ford and peugeot but I never came across anything that really tickled my fancy.
My friend at the time owned a Rover 414i which I knew was cheap on insurance, cheap to run and tax and after having been in his I knew it packed a punch and sounded brilliant! The 400 though for me at the time was just a little too big looking and rather unsporty. However I put Rover into the search on autotrader and came across the 200 and it was love at first site!
I opted for the 1.4 engine rather than the 1.1 because I heard the 1.4 offered more economy and performance...

The rover 214i - our best car yet
Advantages: A practical small family car
Disadvantages: to go bigger would cost more!
...I have just read some of the titles for other comments on Rovers, and quite frankly, I am suprised!
We brought our 1.4 Rover 214i, 5door nearly two years ago, aged about 3 years when we brought it.
Our requirements when we started searching for a car were that it had to be affordable (under 6 grand) and have five doors, and three diagonal seat belts in the back.
We had first visited a Renault garage, where they had a megane suitable. The sales person had decided that we would buy it. However, promptly told us my husband and I couldn't both test drive it as they had to accompany us, and there was not enough room for our children. The sales person was rude - insulted the car we were trading in, and was not prepared to budge at all, not even offer a free service instead of a price reduction.
So we went to our local Rover...

Rover 75 Diesels
Advantages: MPG..Toys..Insurance group..
Disadvantages: Bootspace..if anything !
...I'm on my 2nd Rover 75 now, a saloon with all the bells and whistles...I had the estate version on recommendation of a truly knowledgeable friend in the motor trade and loved it..then the leather clad, sunroofed Connosieur turned up at a laughable price so I went for it...
Both versions offer a seriously cheap way to get a good strong car, wich is both comfortable and economical...mileage claims from fans vary between 45 and 55 mpg on the diesel 2ltr engine and that's got to be good enough..They'll tow anything and run all day on motorways or round the town...
The interiors are fitted with enough toys to keep even the biggest gadget freak happy and electrically they're usually pretty good..a few ABS sensor problems and a bugger of a system for fuel delivery ( twin pumps) often means it's worth being nice to your local MG Rover...

The Rover 25, a surprising little number...
Advantages: Cheap to buy and run, reliable, well built
Disadvantages: Iffy o/e head gaskits, pipe and slippers reputation
...My wife bought this car when she realised that her little yellow Fiat was too small to carry a baby in.
I have to confess that I'm not a particular Rover fan and have driven older Rover 200s and a 400. I found the handling of those cars to be very vague, indeed the 216 I drove was quite frightning and the Honda engine completely outclased the chassis.
When test driving the 25 I was pleasently surprised and found the handling was crisp and responsive, and the car felt very secure on the road. The 1.4 engine can get a little breathless and can be a little harsh a higher revs, but my own car is a 2 litre Mondeo so I may be expecting a little too much from it. The head gasket needed replacing at around 55,000 miles, this is a common fault on Rover K series engines. The replacement part was a Lotus item, and new enging studs were also...

Rovers' Year?
Advantages: great squad, big name manager, pots of money
Disadvantages: pressure and expectations of fans
...Well with all the resources available to them, and now with a tried and tested 'big name Manager in Graham Souness - this really could be their year.
For numerous reasons, Blackburn failed in their attempt to regain promotion to the premiership last year. But with a squad unmatched by any other team in this Division and money to back it up, Rovers could well do better this year. Their fans will demand it - thereby could be the problem. How will Souness and his team cope with the pressure and expectations?
He's made a couple of new signings already - to freshen things up and they will have the prospect of local derby games against the likes of Burnley & Preston, to remind them that they are not yet up with the 'big boys'.
If the players play as a team and they get off to a good start it should be bye bye Div 1...

Rover 214 SLI
Advantages: Cheap to buy and run, nice to drive, comfortable, don't rust
Disadvantages: Some people knock them
...I started driving my dads 5 year old Rover 214 SLI just after my 17th birthday. I had bought a Vauxhall Nova of my auntie but found a cheapest quote of £1200 for third party fire and theft was just too expensive.
My Dads insurance was due for renewal so I shoped around for quotes to put me on my Dads insurance as a named driver. Eventually I found a great quote with CIS insurance fully comp for just £533. So my Dad put me on his insurance, and I started driving the car whilst I was still having driving lessons.
The car is simply brilliant, it's nice to drive and easy to park up thanks to power steering and visability is also quite good. Inside the car is well laid out with simple easy to read controls. The seats are excellent they are velour and look very classy especially with the fake wood that looks quite real. The drivers seat...

I've been a Wild Rover....
Advantages: Funny, witty and a great take on sharing your life with a pet!
Disadvantages: Only 32 pages long!
...Once again I am here to tell you about a picture book for children. I came across this one at work down in the Children's Library the other day. A little boy thrust it at me and I kind of HAD to look at it! Then I actually stopped pretending and started to REALLY read it! Then I actually stopped pretending and started to REALLY enjoy it! This book is called Rover and I would like to share it with you.
Rover is written by Michael Rosen; the author who bought us such delights as We're All Going on a Bear Hunt, Centrally Heated Knickers (excellent title) and Oww! It is brilliantly illustrated by Neal Layton; an up and coming illustrator who has also worked on Poo: A Natural History, But Martin and Howler (the follow up to Rover).
I don't want to spoil the story and give away the plot too much, but I need to tell you a bit...

Sad, Rover news!
Advantages: Roomy and very comfortable car to drive
Disadvantages: Its currently sat on the drive!!
...Unfortunately, I have had to update the Rover review. Most of the original details remain the same. I've added my new section under my original review.
ORIGINAL REVIEW
Before I bought my current car - the Rover 214 Si, I took a few cars for a test drive. All were around the same price but this car stood out by far, with power steering, remote centrol locking, immobilizer & alarm and drivers airbag.
In my opinion, this is a brilliant little car. It's very roomy - the front passengers in particular are spoilt for leg room, maybe the rear passengers lack a bit of space but I rarely sit in the back, so this doesn't bother me! and I find the driving position great - I can drive for miles at a time without getting stiff legs! In comparison to the others I test drove, it is a well thought out car. All the controls are exactly to...
