....A. as the band took their places on stage during the 1982 “Avalon” tour, this instrumental piece was also used as the B-side to the “More Than This” single, and the music itself is very short and full of texture and space and as the music is about to finish the percussion of the following track begins. “While My Heart Is Still Beating” is another love song written by Mr Ferry and the sax player Andy Mackay, the track itself has layers of percussion and keyboard tracks that are interwoven with saxophone and guitar and some big sounding bass. Handclaps and bass guitar with more percussion are interspaced with the bass and keyboards that pick out the main theme, of the track “The Main Thing” that was used as a B-side of the single “Take a Chance On Me”, which was the third single...

The Definitive Best Of Roxy

Advantages: Of many greatest hits of albums for Roxy this is the best
Disadvantages: None

...This was the first of the Greatest Hits compilations which Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music produced. When originally released it contained 20 tracks as a double album but although each side of the LP had 5 tracks the running time was as little as 16-17 minutes for a couple of sides. The later version of their greatest hits (the CD ‘More Than This’ released in 1995) had a longer total running time on a single CD. Plus ca change. For me this album better defines the essence of good Roxy Music and, ergo, good Bryan Ferry. Don’t get me wrong I like Bryan Ferry as a solo artist but for innovation and inventiveness he was at his best when with the musical influences of Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay. Review of Street Life (Greatest Hits) - Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry

I (Roxy) Love it!

Advantages: Smells great (to me), can be found cheaply
Disadvantages: Doesn't last too long on skin

...It's been a while since I have worn perfume on a regular basis, I've had a few mishaps with bottles of my old favourite (Hugo Woman) and decided that it was too much hassle and money to replace them after they leaked/broke the sprayer, etc. But when I was in TK Maxx buying a last-minute present on Christmas Eve, I spotted a bottle of this and thought I'd give it a try. It as only £6.99 and as I have a lot of Roxy clothes and like their outdoorsy, free spirited image, thought maybe it would be a scent that I would appreciate too. The purfume comes in a frosted glass bottle, which appears very pale blue but that is in fact the colour of the perfume, with a shiny silver lid. Fairly plain compared with some of the beautiful bottles out there, but it definitely wont look ugly on your dressing table. I have the 30ml size, there is also...

Mother of Pearl - A True Gem

Advantages: "Mother of Pearl", Roxy's finest Album

...This was Roxy Music's third outing and their finest ever album. This was unusual because they had lost the creative talent of Brian Eno (due to a power struggle / personality clash with Brian Ferry as detailed in Eno's song "Blank Frank" from his "Here Come The Warm Jets" album) and replaced him with 18 year olf Eddie Jobson (from Curved Air, thus adding electric violin to their line up, demonstrated on "Street Life"). The cover maintained the Roxy Music predilection for scantily clad models , in this case draped over the whole original gatefold sleeve, in a torn red dress amonth the jungle vegetation look very hot (ie sweating) but with perfect make-up. Do The Strand again after all these years

Disadvantages: It has to end sometime

...In 1975 I went to see Roxy Music at the Odeon in Birmingham New Street. It was one of THE music venues of the time and I still have great affection for the place. And as my partner always says it was pre NEC, which, being my toy boy, he doesn’t remember! (I wonder if I’ll get told off when he reads that bit?) Anyway Roxy were absolutely brilliant! I can still see Bryan ferry now in those tight black trousers, wide sleeved white shirt and black Spanish flat rimmed hat Ooh – quick nurse the screens! The music was superb and I remember having to stand on the seats to see the stage – and we were only on Row D! So now we hear the Roxy Music are to reform and do a series of concerts in 2001. Dave, my partner, decided that treating me to tickets to see them at the NEC would be a fitting way of saying thank you...

...For some reason there seems to be two menus for the same cinema anyway Hollinwood Roxy is the same as The Oldham Roxy. The roxy isn't in the middle of nowhere infact it's on a very main road, near the motorway aswell, but its in the small town of Oldham, and is pretty much a local sort of cinema. Prices vary, it will go from about £3 in the morning to £4 at night. Inside food is reasonable, i buy a small popcorn, small slushy and that about £4.50. I would be lying if i didn't say i'd tried to get into a 15 when i was below the age, but i didn't get in they unlike some cinemas are very strict about it so theres no point trying! Queues can sometimes be quite long but the staff deal with people quickly so you aren't waiting long. There is 2 main huge screens which are used for the latest box office hits and smaller ones...

Ahead of their time

...When Roxy Music burst onto the scene in 1972 they were light years ahead of their time with those extraordinary costumes, the image, and above all the music. One magnificent single "Virginia Plain" and this rather baffling debut alvum had most of us confused - but with hindsight maybe that was all part of the plot. Several of these tracks are quite long, cramming in a number of ideas all at once with a rapid switch in mood and tempo. Conventional song structures were largely out, in an attempt to take as many influences as possible - a touch of doo-wop here, a bit of electronica there (Brian Eno's synthesisers and tapes throughout sounded quite out of this world), and a little ambient noodling when there was space.
