Rob Roy: Of Valor and Honor

Advantages: Strong performances by a talented cast
Disadvantages: A bit more gratuitous violence than you'd want young children to witness

...Note: Some plot details are disclosed in this opinion. Based on the novel by Sir Walter Scott, Rob Roy is the kind of movie that you just almost have to like. With a script that is largely unmarred by shades of moral gray, good is clearly good, evil is clearly evil, marital love and fidelity triumph over all challenges, and justice prevails at the end of the day. It is, in a word, wholesome. Toss in a healthy dose of standing stones, Highland lochs, and good Scottish scenery in general, and--well, you just about have to like this movie. ...? If not, this will surprise you, though personally I'm not over-keen on these two songs and would much rather hear him on his own material. In fact, this collection is so diverse that I find myself wondering how appropriate the title 'Love Songs' is. Especially when it includes his versions of 'Land of 1000 Dances' and 'Run Baby Run'. Roy Orbison sings Wilson Pickett and the Newbeats? Well, yes - and very well too. But love songs? Er, let's not split hairs. What I will register a (little) whinge about is the packaging. Several of these recordings are listed in the booklet as being © 1997 or 2000. Are they all remixes? All right, I know that a lot of people who buy love song compilations may not be unduly bothered about such niceties, but Roy died in 1988 and I for one would have appreciated knowing the date they were...

Very Friendly Harpers

Advantages: well-priced, very friendly, good for the social side
Disadvantages: chatty atmosphere can be distracting, not much variety of resistance machines

...I've been a member of Harpers now for about 4 years and after having read the other opinions, I thought I'd offer my opinion from a young lads perspective. The first thing that strikes you about Harpers is how socially active they are and how nice the atmosphere is. I've been to a few in the region and they're all the same. It's definately a gym to go to if you enjoy the social side of it and Harpers regularly have nights out or social events encouraging everyone to come along. Harpers also have good equipment, well-trained staff (if not a little young) and good schemes like Harpers Dollars, where you accumulate credits to get discounts at stores and sports clubs etc. You can also get vouchers through various means which enable you to get money off your membership fees. Harpers also have aerobics and other high intensity workouts...

...As like all my other reviews I like to say something before I begin. Roy Keane has just come back to the Irish national side after two years in exile thanks to Mick McCarthy in my opinion a man who couldn’t organise piss up in a brewery. The new Irish manager Brian Kerr well done to you. Roy was and still is criticised by a few idiots who say thinks like "You traitor" "You walked out on us" Just for the record Roy was sent home by Mick McCarthy for airing his views on him. I have read this book five times in two years and I have to say I love it. The book begins giving us all the information on the Keane family and how in the 1970's an 80's people frowned upon the foreign games in Ireland such as his and my beloved football. Rob Roy - an interesting wok of fiction

Advantages: Good fights
Disadvantages: Why get an Irishman to play a Scot?

...Not bad for another summer blockbuster, this one actually has a good (if inaccurate) story. It is the film of the legend of Rob Roy MacGregor who tricked into debt by a Scottish laird sought to settle the score. Filled to the brim with period duels and honour, along with some very over the top hats this is an entertaining adventure film with a respectable story. Tim Roth and John Hurt play the villains, and as I mention a lot, British actors play the best villains (I don?t recall either of them in a bad film). The fact that (predictably) the hero walks off with wife and kids at the end, when the real Rob Roy was hung drawn and quartered let the film down for me, and I felt used Scottish History to cash in. But don?t let that put you off a good film, with some outstanding performances....

Happy Harpers

Advantages: Easy to join, staff helpful, good classes, wide range of machines
Disadvantages: As it is at a Leisure centre, there are hundreds of kids in holiday times

...I have been a member of my local Harper's Fitness club for about a year now, and i really have nothing bad to say about either the staff or the facilities. Since I joined, I have changed my programme a few times, and the staff are always ready and willing to help. The induction is the worst bit, but that is everywhere, it's a bit less daunting than anywhere else I have tried. The only fault as I mentioned was the kids in the school holidays, but they're not so bad either, it is an advantage to mothers as they have a well run creche too. The fact that it is run at a leisure centre gives the added advantage of swimming, squash, tennis, football, sauna and steam, sunbeds and a good sized bar along with many other facilities all included in the package. There is a really good atmosphere in the gym, with satellite television music...

...roy jones is a terrific counter puncher, regerded as the best fighter in our generation. roy jones juniour is the most talented fighter to enter the ring. if you make a mistake then your in real trouble. he punches as quick as a featherweight however with the power of a heavy weight. he showed us what damage he can do when he won the heavyweight title. the sad part was because of yoyo dieting roy wasnt at his best when he faced antonio tarver. roy jones juniour to some peoples eyes is the most overated person in the sport of boxing, however i could strongly defend that. if you see him beat bernard hopkins you will really see how great he is, bernard hopkins is now the light heavy champ. the dvd is great with stunning punches that can make an elephant cry. the soundtrack of this is very standard. however that doesnt ruin the dvd...

...A must have for all comedy cravers. Probably the funniest comedy sitcom since "Only Fools and Horses", maybe even better than that, but by far the greatest comedy show of recent years. Featuring the Harpers', a realistic look at a typical British family with the added sense of humour. Great for all the family. Featuring, Ben, Susan, Nick, Janey and Michael Harper. In which I find Nick to be extremely humorous, always providing entertainment with his weird and wacky schemes, that usually end up with Ben sorting it out. Ben is another great character playing a very believable role, a dentist who ultimately hates his job, he gets slated for failing to be a doctor but insists it was Susan who prevented him from doing so. He is a great character who finds it hard to chat with his children about just about everything...
