ROY KEANE - THE PLAYING YEARS

Advantages: Nice insight into the controversial aspects to Roy's playing career
Disadvantages: Doesn't cover his time at Celtic, or any of his managerial work

...I have to admit that when my beloved Ipswich Town FC appointed Roy Keane as manger a couple of months ago I was a little sceptical. Most of what I knew about Roy came from the press and news coverage, most of it negative, which seemed to follow him around. Determined to give the latest bastion of the Ipswich hot seat a fair crack of the whip I set about finding out a little more about the man behind the hype and headlines. My Brother recommended his autobiography which he?d penned in 2002 with the help of journalist Eamon Dunphy, so I gave it a read. Roy Maurice Keane was born in Cork, Ireland in the summer of 1971, the fourth of five children. He was a mediocre performer at school, preferring to be out kicking a ball around than in a class studying. A smattering of junior Irish clubs came calling, most notably Rockmount. He...

Rob Roy: Of Valor and Honor

Advantages: Strong performances by a talented cast
Disadvantages: A bit more gratuitous violence than you'd want young children to witness

...Note: Some plot details are disclosed in this opinion. Based on the novel by Sir Walter Scott, Rob Roy is the kind of movie that you just almost have to like. With a script that is largely unmarred by shades of moral gray, good is clearly good, evil is clearly evil, marital love and fidelity triumph over all challenges, and justice prevails at the end of the day. It is, in a word, wholesome. Toss in a healthy dose of standing stones, Highland lochs, and good Scottish scenery in general, and--well, you just about have to like this movie. At least, Himself and I do. We own a VHS copy, and when we crave escape to the Highlands or exposure to political and personal honor (try to find either these days), we pull out Rob Roy for uplifting dose of courage and valor--plus a wee bit or romance. During its best moments, this film makes...

Roy the Romantic

Advantages: One of the greatest voices - and 41 tracks
Disadvantages: Lack of date information for tracks [see text]

...? If not, this will surprise you, though personally I'm not over-keen on these two songs and would much rather hear him on his own material. In fact, this collection is so diverse that I find myself wondering how appropriate the title 'Love Songs' is. Especially when it includes his versions of 'Land of 1000 Dances' and 'Run Baby Run'. Roy Orbison sings Wilson Pickett and the Newbeats? Well, yes - and very well too. But love songs? Er, let's not split hairs. What I will register a (little) whinge about is the packaging. Several of these recordings are listed in the booklet as being © 1997 or 2000. Are they all remixes? All right, I know that a lot of people who buy love song compilations may not be unduly bothered about such niceties, but Roy died in 1988 and I for one would have appreciated knowing the date they were...

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Robbie Williams Live At Knebworth "Without Me" : (

Disadvantages: None!

...Hell is gone and heaven's here, There's nothing left for you to fear Shake your arse come over here Now scream! I'm a burning effigy Of everything I used to be You're my rock of empathy, my dear "So come on let me entertain you" "Let me entertain you"! Reasons For Purchasing: Well "Let me entertain you" with my review! I am a huge fan of the Pop Star Robbie Williams and I have every single album he has ever released in my huge CD collection. I think most people are aware who this great star is, but I will include a little bit of information about him, for those who do not in the next paragraph. Robbie Williams was born on the 13th February 1974, in England, in a little town called Stoke-on-Trent. His pop career started when he was just sixteen years old, when he was chosen to be included in a UK boy...

Review of Live At Knebworth (Explicit Version) - Robbie Williams

The truth, By Roy Keane.

Advantages: In Review.
Disadvantages: In Review.

...As like all my other reviews I like to say something before I begin. Roy Keane has just come back to the Irish national side after two years in exile thanks to Mick McCarthy in my opinion a man who couldn’t organise piss up in a brewery. The new Irish manager Brian Kerr well done to you. Roy was and still is criticised by a few idiots who say thinks like "You traitor" "You walked out on us" Just for the record Roy was sent home by Mick McCarthy for airing his views on him. I have read this book five times in two years and I have to say I love it. The book begins giving us all the information on the Keane family and how in the 1970's an 80's people frowned upon the foreign games in Ireland such as his and my beloved football. Just reading this book you can feel how personal it is he describes in debt his family and how...

Fort William Rocks !!!

Advantages: Breath-taking views, extremely friendly people
Disadvantages: None that I found...

...~~*~~ INTRODUCTION ~~*~~ Fort William - a delightful place to visit - before I went there 2 summers ago I assumed it was just a fort and not a whole new wonderful holiday experience! Hmm how wrong could I have been? The place where both Rob Roy and Braveheart were filmed, it's definitely a place to see if you believe in exploring the UK's finest places. I'm not an expert at writing travel reviews so please bear with me if this review isn't laid out exactly as you'd expect it to be. ~~*~~ WHERE AND WHAT IS IT? ~~*~~ Well as it's in the "United Kingdom Experience" I'm hoping everyone knows that it's here in the UK but it's right up there in the West Highlands of Scotland. As the crow flies (or car drives?) it's roughly 500 miles from my home in West London to Fort William, which equates to 8½ hours driving if you average...

William Blake's works

Advantages: Beautifully written poems concerning the effects of innocence and experience
Disadvantages: The language is often hard to read without concentration

...In his poems, William Blake has a number of underlying messages riddled in them. He seems to agree and disagree with certain things in a number of his poems which I will now discuss. In Songs of Experience, the poem called The Garden of Love shows some of the things that Blake seems to disagree with. In The Garden of Love I believe Blake tries to convey that as a child grows up things change. He seems to think that these changes are bad, for example the chapel replaced his childhood green where he had played and instead of flowers on the green, tombstones in a graveyard. I think he is saying that childhood was a happier, carefree time and as adulthood abruptly arises, you lose the innocence of your childhood. In William Blake?s case, things become darker. He seems to disagree with this. Also he puts across the feeling of being...

Williams' use of violence

Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op

...A Streetcar Named Desire : How does violence progress throughout the play and change the course of action? In what ways did Williams? use of violence contribute to the controversy of the play? Williams? work is often considered as ?one of the most savage indictments of culture in our time?(i) and A Streetcar Named Desire is no exception. The play challenged the taboo issues of violence, homosexuality and promiscuity whilst the 1951 film adaptation caused great controversy despite censorship carried out by the Motion Picture Association of America and the Catholic Legion of Decency. Since it is Stanley?s rape of Blanche that leads to her inevitable demise, it is important to consider the significance that Williams? use of violence bears to the play as a whole. This central topic of violence is initially revealed to...
