Leisuredays - Royal and Sun Alliance Insurance plc broker

Advantages: Very easy to apply, friendly and efficient staff
Disadvantages: None so far

...This company specialises in insurance for static caravans, lodges and chalets and caravan holiday insurance cover from Royal and Sun Alliance Insurance plc. The company provides extensive cover for all sorts of holiday homes and personal needs. I first heard of this company when the insurance on my caravan was due for renewal. When I first purchased my caravan, the site owners had recommended a company and we had taken out insurance with them the previous year for £213.96. This company had sent us a renewal quote of £254.16. At the same time I had a letter from the caravan park telling us of Leisuredays. Before I could do anything I was contacted by Leisuredays to tell me about the services they could offer and gave me a quote of £134.75. Obviously a lot cheaper! They then sent me a brochure outlining all that we had...

HSBC insurance provided by Royal & Sun Alliance

Advantages: Reasonably priced premiums
Disadvantages: Long time to settle claim

...Having read other reviews about this company it seems I'm the only one who's had difficulty with them but we all take the rough with the smooth so here goes!! Royal & Sun Alliance are a well known insurance provider, they are probably best known for their home and car insurance but if anything is 'insurable' I'm told they insure it. My husband and I bought our house in October 2001 and whilst applying for our mortgage we decided to take out our buildings and contents insurance with HSBC so that we had payments going to one company rather than several. We were told that Royal & Sun Alliance were the providers and the premium was £28 pcm, having recently shopped around for quotes we knew that this was a competitive quote and our bank set everything up for us. In October 2002 I went on a trip to Belgium with my family. I returned...

Royal Sun Alliance really earned their premium

Advantages: Very friendly and organised claims advisor
Disadvantages: Too many menu options when phoning the claims centre

...Call me lucky or jammy or whatever, but before last year I had never made a claim on any type of insurance. Unfortunately, we had a MAJOR flood in our house last year when the mains feed into our header tank suddenly burst without warning. My husband and I were both out of work at the time and I was the first one home...... It was like a scene out of some nightmare film! There was water coming out of the windows, the front door, back door.....I will spare you the details, but basically, it was bad! Every room in our 4 bedroomed house except one was totally devastated. Once the house had been made safe (by the local fire brigade), they advised me to phone my insurance company. We were insured with RSA for buildings and MMA through the AA for our contents. And this forms the basis of the main problem - having two different...

Royal Sun Alliance are probably the worst

Advantages: Easy to buy. Well distributed.
Disadvantages: Everything!

...I entitled this "probably the worst", only because I have not had experience of every insurer out there, however I have had experience of at least four in the UK, as I am involved in property. Over a year ago, we had a very substantial building claim relating to flooding which caused the property to be uninhabitable. Royal Sun Alliance accepted that the claim was covered by our policy, and we started repairs. From the commencement of repairs they denied liability for our alternative accommodation costs. We protested that we were covered for this, but they steadfastly denied this. Furthermore the repairs that they eventualy sanctioned, necessitated that the property was vacated. An alternative solution could possibly have been found, but the repair works would have been considerably more. The loss assessor they used was extremely...

Get Insured For Free

Advantages: No action needed once signed up
Disadvantages: Extra family members need to be paid for

...Royal & Sun Alliance Travel Insurance for free? Yes, it's true (sort of). I'll explain. If you are a Natwest Bank account holder earning more than £20,000 p.a. (I think), then you qualify for a NatWest Advantage Gold account (including Gold Visa card). Initially, when the £6/month account charge is explained, you might think that you've got better things to do with £72 p.a. than pay a bank any extra. However, there are several benefits which the regular traveller might like to consider:- Free travel insurance for self and partner, underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance. This pays the account charge in itself. Extra family members can be tacked on as and when for a reasonable fee Then you get commission-free foreign currency transactions. Coupled with other benefits like credit card cover, this starts to cost in for the regular...

Royal and Sun Alliance no good if you claim.

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Lots, see above

...outside the remit of the Terms and Conditions WHAT?? An addition to the opinion, 14/07/2001 As a result of denying us insurance, it caused us all sorts of problems in getting insurance for this year. Apprantly, the AA and Sun Alliance have hidden agreements, which they do NOT have to disclose to you or I concerning claims. R&SA apparantly had a £3000 limit on claims - any claims over this and they would not re-insure!! If they had disclosed this to us, we would have talked to the repairers! Watch it! Insurance is still a crooked game. Look very carefully before you leap! I am now in the process of arranging insurance with another company. I will never entertain R&SA again and I would advise you to do the same!!...

Insurance rip-off

Advantages: Plenty as long as you don't actually want to claim
Disadvantages: Very difficult to actually get what you need if you need it

...I took out my buildings insurance with my mortgage some 10 years ago, kept up regular payments and didn't really give it a second thought as I was happy we were insured should we ever need it. Then two years ago we had some storm damage to the roof which caused flooding into the house, pulling down the ceilings in my sons bedroom and the living room directly beneath it. I called the insurers who told us to get a quote for the damage. When I returned this to them they suddenly wanted to send out an assessor. A woman came, looked through the hole in bedroom ceiling and left. A week later we were told that the insurance would not cover us because the roof had not been maintained. Their reasoning was that there was no underfelt visible, apart from in one unaffected area. Our house, like all the others in the area, were built...

SAME COMPANY DIFFERENT CHARGES

Advantages: Able to offer cheap quotes
Disadvantages: See op

...The company ------------ Royal & Sun alliance is a leading insurance company for building & contents although they do offer various other products but are well known for insuring the above. They offer Insurance direct or through intermediaries such as AA, Swinton, Sainsbury's insurance e.t.c. which are all paid commission by Royal & Sun alliance. (they have also recently launched there new service known as More than offering slightly cheaper quotes.) My Experience. -------------- I took out an insurance policy with them through AA & Swinton not knowing that my house was insured by Royal & Sunalliance for both contents & buildings rather than AA or Swinton. Which realised when I made a claim later that year. When my household insurance was due for renewal I decided to go direct thinking it would save money as there would be...

Pain to pay in 6 days.

Advantages: Very quick service.
Disadvantages: None.

...We have had our Car, House and Contents insurance with Royal and Sun Alliance for some years now (originally with The Insurance Service). During this time all the paperwork has always been correct and arrived on time and the staff have always been very polite and helpful when we have spoke to any of them on the telephone. The real test for any insurance company is when a claim is made. We were recently unfortunate enough to have our youngest son’s BMX bike stolen from our garden shed in the early hours of a Tuesday morning. Later in the morning I informed both the Police and the insurance company by telephone. The claim was registered and as the bike was only a few months old we still had the receipt which we sent to the insurance company by first class post. On the Wednesday we telephoned the insurance company with the Police...

When you need to claim . . .

Advantages: Easy, fuss free claims
Disadvantages: Need to use their recommended suppliers to get the best deals

...Given the choice, I'd never claim on my insurance, ever. It's one of those annoying things that I see sucking up cash from my bank account every month, but really I don't want to give it any further thought. This year however, it's been at the forefront of my mind. After 3 claims in twelve months, I'm glad 'm with Royal & SunAlliance (RSA). I didn't select them myself, I'd gone through brokers chasing the best deal. Cheap doesn't always equal good, but RSA were very competitive for the cover I wanted. Back in the spring my garage was broken into and my bikes stolen. One phone call to RSA to register the claim and one to the police to register the theft. Within 24 hours RSA had arranged for Halfords to call me to value my bikes. All I had to do was tell Halfords the models and all the extras fitted to the bikes, they told me...
