...This is to help you with a few pointers on Royal Mail and its staff from someone that works in the network. First of all a day in the life of a postman: A postman starts his day at half five in the morning when he arrives at work the goes onto whats called group sorting where he sorts all mail for his delivery area into various walks. This can be anywhere between 15 and 40 different walks. He completes this in about 30-45 minutes depending on the amount of mail that he has to sort (Christmas periods and this could be double the time.) After this he goes to his own delivery frame where he then sorts all the mail for his walk. He clears round all his designated boxes then sorts his mail into order ready to be bundled up and delivered. ROYAL MAIL - 1ST CLASS COST, 3RD CLASS SERVICE

Advantages: Nationwide service
Disadvantages: Delivery service very poor

...Firstly, I would like to advise people that during the run up to Christmas, Royal Mail were having delivery problems in the Bristol area, returning items to it's depot due to not being able to deliver items due to the fact that they were unable to get answers at the relevant addresses to be able to deliver signed for letters and packages. This caused big queues at the delivery offices, and huge backlogs. Just after Christmas, Royal Mail indicated that the problems had been sorted out. Unfortunately, in the area where I live at least, even though Royal Mail have indicated that the problems have been resolved, they are still ongoing. On a recent Saturday, our local postman posted our letters, and within 30 seconds I had gone to the front door to pick up the mail. On going through it, I noticed a "sorry, you were out" card...

Royal Mail: I'll send another claim form out!

...I work for a small to medium sized company, which like many businesses these days relies on the postal service to deliver letters and small packages around the UK on a daily basis. Many of these items need to arrive the following day and since some are very light, e.g. tender documents we have always sent them by royal mail registered post or by their special delivery service. Until recently there have been very few problems but over the past few months the deterioration in both of these services has been startling and as a result I have been forced to consider alternative despatch methods, something which just 12 months ago would have been unthinkable. I have decided to write this review because I wonder if any other ciao readers have noticed this decline and if they have I am wondering what steps, if any they are taking...

Happy Birthday Royal Mail, Or Not...

Advantages: Wide range of services available, usually efficient, good way of communicating, relatively cheap
Disadvantages: Items being lost or stolen, harsh employers

...or Registered Post, there was no hope of any compensation. However, the woman said she would send a form to me, which I could fill in to explain what had happened. I was thoroughly annoyed at the gall of someone stealing from a little girl like this! The envelope was addressed to a ‘Miss’ and the card was clearly for a young child. royal mail ,do you trust them?

...Well me personally, i have had many bad experiences with Royal Mail .The first one that springs to mind is the dissapearing mothers day card,only this year i posted of my mums mothers day card first class delivery,( which only cost me around 30p, which is very reasonable, i know) but i posted it on the thursday before mothers day(sunday) only to find when i phone my mum she never recieved her card and there for was not having the best mothers day. Obviously this left me upset and angry. Then when it just didnt come at all, angry wasnt the word. ROYAL MAIL - Third Class!

Advantages: ermm....the name?
Disadvantages: Slow, ever increasing prices, delivery times

...Well for once, I'm going to have a good old rant, its not like me I have to admit but I am so angry at royal mail. I purchased a mobile phone as a present for my mother for her birthday. I got it off ebay and once the cheque had cleared the man whom I bought it from posted it first class last Thursday. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't First class used to mean next day delivery? So that means it should have come on Friday? Oh, but it didn't come Friday, then maybe Saturday? Nope, not Saturday either, then surely Monday? Nope, I would have thought so, but no. The thing is if I thought it was a one off I wouldn't be ranting so much but it seems that royal mail are just terrible when it comes to delivering parcels! ...do not turn up.The customer probably thinks that I have received their letters when in fact I have not. Obviously by the very nature of what I am doing I accept that some people will say they have sent payment when in fact they have not.However such has been the large number of 'missing' payments that I feel for certain that misdelivery has taken place. I have complained to the Royal Mail customer services on two occasions.I have to say that the people who handle such calls were very polite and I did receive a letter(together with a free book of first class stamps)very promptly both times. Whats so Royal about it?

Disadvantages: Mail gets lost/damaged, Unreliable

...I'm just going to speak about my experience with royal mail. I have to comment on how bad my experience has been with them. I sell a lot of items off of ebay and always take the bits to the post office myself. I used to just sent these items by normal 1st or 2nd class post how-ever some of these items kept getting lost so I now have to send all packages by recorded delivery. Even though I send packages by recorded delivery, some of these parcels still go missing and although I have a tracking number it can take months to claim any money back for compensation, etc. I also want to comment on me receiving parcels at my house. A lot of the time packages/parcels are just left on the door step and most of the things I order have to be signed for. I received about 5 parcels in 1 week, all were meant to be signed for and I only got...
