Ruskin Bond's Baby Junoon - A Must Watch Movie !!!!
Advantages: Strong Acting, Emotins, Strong Star Cast, Music, Photography and What Not?
Disadvantages: None!
...--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Junoon a Hindi movie released in 1978 in Eastman Color is an overwhelmingly powerful, love story set against a crucial period backdrop which undoubtedly added another feather in the Cap of the great director Shyam Benegal on its release then! This movie was adjudged and Conferred with Film Fare Award in the year 1980 as the Best Film of the Year! The Screen play of this movie which is based on Ruskin Bond's heart rendering novel 'A flight of Pigeons' is efficiently written by Shyam Benegal himself without altering much to maintain the originality of the work! This movie was received with a warm welcome by the audience from almost all parts of the World when released thus making this movie a great successful one commercially for its great artistic...

Anglia Ruskin University - Cambridge
Advantages: Campus university, nice city, varied degree programs
Disadvantages: can be disorganised
...Well for starters, the university is now called Anglia Ruskin University. Why did this happen? Well i believe it was to remove the "polytechnic" from the name and to help change the image of the university. As to whether this worked or not... The jurys out.
So whats Anglia like? It is made up of campuses and regional colleges, with the main two campuses at Chelmsford and Cambridge. I went to the Cambridge campus and this is what this review is based on.
The cambridge campus is on the new side of town..ie. not with the cambridge university colleges in amongst the old bricks. Within a 5 minute walk is a VUE multiscreen cinema and the Grafton Centre Shops (offering most things), and a 10 minute walk takes you to the old town where more shops are and generally most of the nightlife. Between both sides of the town, everything is...

My favourite Brick
Advantages: Excellent product, long lasting, and up to british standard
Disadvantages: No body cares enough about these sort of products
...Without fail, my most favourite brick is.... wait for it..... "The Ibstock Aldridge Ruskin Multi Rustic 73mm". True to form this brick is mass produced in a brick factory rather than slop moulded or hand made.
Home of Origin : Ibstock Brick Limited, which has the largest range of bricks in the country, followed shortly by Hanson Brick P.L.C who is shortly followed by Marshall brick with many smaller brick companys trying to keep there heads above water.
Brick Works : The brick works that these wonderfull bricks are produced at are in the place called Aldridge, which I think is in Stafford (but I have been known to be wrong once in a while).
Size : Although the brick is officially called 73mm, it is generally classed as an imperial sized brick due to the fact that is is very close to a 2 7/8" brick. Obviosly due to...

The Millenium Galleries, Sheffield
Advantages: Free Access, Central Location
Disadvantages: Not Open In Evenings
...spacious area that is very well lit by natural daylight. This was all of course a part of the design criteria. Architects Pringle Richards and Sharratt designed this Building with the intention that it would be warm and welcoming, and a far contrast from the often institutional appearance of many other traditional Galleries.
The Millennium Galleries take up two floors and in fact they actually comprise of four different Galleries under one roof. These are the Special Exhibition Gallery, the Craft & Design Gallery, The Metalwork Gallery and the Ruskin Gallery.
The Special Exhibition Gallery is the only Gallery that is not always free to visit. This Gallery displays a wide range of major blockbuster exhibitions , giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy all sorts of National and International masterpieces from places like the Tate Gallery...

Dodos and Dinosaurs
Advantages: Interesting history, building and contents especially if combined with a visit to Pitt rivers museum
Disadvantages: No refreshments and lack of tourist guide information
...turn spawned the extensive University science area.
It seems quite incredible that until that time ‘science’ as a subject had been largely ignored. It all began when progressive science professors, headed by John Acland, campaigned for a central home for the study of the natural sciences. Almost as soon as it was opened in 1860 it became the scene of the famous debate between bishop Wilberforce and Huxley over Darwin’s ‘Origin of Species’ and has existed in controversy of some sort or another ever since if only with regard to its ‘beauty’ or ‘ugliness’.
John Ruskin, the champion of art and the working man, was also inextricably connected with the museum project although quite how he became involved is not certain. Ruskin was into Gothic craftsmanship and fought for the “...

Not your average biography
Advantages: Beautifully told, brilliantly researched, you can't go wrong with this one
Disadvantages: I really cannot find any, even if I wanted to.
....
When Lizzie first met her future lover/husband she was working as a hat-maker/shop assistant for a Mrs Tozier in Cranbourne Street, London. The two were introduced through Walter Howell Deverell, who first met Lizzie through his friend the poet William Allingham.
As the story continues we learn of the relationship that becomes a can't-live-with-can't-live-without pairing, fuelled by jealousy and manipulation. We are told of some of the possible affairs Rossetti had with other models whilst he and Lizzie were in their long relationship, both before and after their marriage.
During her life Lizzie was sponsored by John Ruskin, but her frequent bouts of ill-health (which may or may not be attributed to her increasing dependency on laudanum, an opiate that was freely available in just about any shop at that time and before stricter drug...

Meersbrook Park, Sheffield
Advantages: Free Access, Fantastic Views
Disadvantages: A Very Steep Climb To The Top
...do not wish to dwell too much here about Bishop's House since this has been the subject of one of my earlier reviews. I will say however for those of you that have not yet stumbled across this review that Bishop's House is the best preserved example of a timber framed House in City (and one of the best in the Country) and dates from around 1500.
Benjamin Roebuck, a successful local businessman, built Meersbrook House in 1780. This impressive House was the location of the Ruskin Museum from 1890 until 1950. Today this collection can be seen in the Millennium Galleries in the City Centre. This House is currently used by the Local Council. The Walled Garden and the Herb Garden that we see today once provided fresh Flowers and Produce for the House and its residents.
Within Meersbrook Park there are several large areas of land that have...

Oh Alfie!
Advantages: Lovely story and detailed illustrations.
Disadvantages: None
...has stopped wailing and has gone to get his chair and hey presto manages to open the door, feeling very proud of his accomplishment.
~ Illustrations ~
It is quite clear from the illustrations that Shirley Hughes studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art in Oxford.
The drawings in this book are very detailed and you get a real feel of the street in which Alfie lives.
My favourite pictures are of Alfie and Annie Rose crying, not that I like seeing children cry but the expressions on their faces are so 'real'.
Shirley Hughes ability to capture a range of emotions in her drawings on all of the characters in the book are second to none!
The layout of the book is great. Shirley Hughes has split the page in two so that on the left hand page there is a full picture of what is going on outside of the door...

The Sheffield Lyceum Theatre
Advantages: Beautiful Place
Disadvantages: Shows can sell out quickly
..., which is a handy tip, as the queues can get quite long.
The shows at the Lyceum are very varied and as a result so are the prices. On my last visit in June 2004 I saw the Boy George musical Taboo (see my separate review) and I paid £7.50 for the only seats, which were left. These were in the upper circle but the view was still good.
At Christmas time there is traditionally a Pantomime where you can go along and spot the has-been soap stars of yesteryear.
The Lyceum theatre is situated in Tudor Square, right in the heart of the city centre. It is directly adjacent to the Crucible theatre, which houses the box office for the Lyceum, and the impressive Victorian architecture of the Central Library is directly behind. In recent times the Ruskin Gallery has reopened directly opposite and the Graves Art Gallery is now located within...
