...---------------CANON POWERSHOT S5 IS - My review------------------
MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH CANON AND HOW I WANTED A NEW ONE...
I've used an old Canon Powershot A30 since 2002 and it has served me very well but with the advent of 2009 I decided that its 1.2 Megapixels and video with no sound were just not enough anymore!
So I looked around for a new camera... I knew I wanted another Canon because:
1) they support rechargable batteries 100%!
2) they are excellent quality cameras (no one ever suspected that the pictures I took with my previous camera had only 1.2 Megapixel... and that's saying something)
... and I knew I wanted another powershot because they have excellent optics and reviews.
The series powershot was perhaps one of the most successiful for Canon and, in general, in the World of digital cameras because...

Review of Canon PowerShot S5 IS
Advantages: Good image quality at lower ISO, excellent specs, great for macro. Disadvantages: High ISO noise, soft focus at maximum zoom.
...Introduction
This is a review of the ?Canon Powershot S5 is? which was Canon?s top of the range bridge camera until the recent introduction of the ?Powershot SX10 is & SX1 is? models.
I wanted a new camera to replace my old Sony 3.3mp camera, which although well specified and took good pictures, suffered from severe shutter lag, as all early digital cameras did, making the taking of moving subjects almost impossible, plus there was no manual settings to override the camera, not being sure whether I wanted to go back to using a large SLR type camera at the time, I went for this Canon bridge camera instead, at the time it was newly released, and it seemed to offer most of the benefits of a DSLR camera but in a smaller package.
What is a bridge camera?
The bridge camera or ?super-zoom? as they are sometimes known as...
Advantages: Thinner than K5, cool screen, more features Disadvantages: Screen balck is not completely dark, smudges easily.
...Having owned several Samsung branded MP3 players over the years, I really enjoyed them so I decided to upgrade from their K5 mp3 player. I found this well built and very reliable (hardly ever crashed) and loved the portable slide out speaker. When the S5 was released a year later, also with slide out speaker, I thought this upgrade had to be a must.
I was right. I decided to go for more storage from a 2gb to an 8gb. The 8gb actually costs less than the 2gb K5 cost! This player has everything the K5 missed and the few faults that the K5 had have been ironed out. The S5 now has album art, a prettier screen, video playback and bluetooth. Fair enough the screen doesn't go as dark as the K5's did, meaning it no longer becomes a seamless part of the front of the player, but it still looks stylish none of the less. The menus are more...

Review of Samsung YP-S5 8GB
Advantages: Zoom, Image stabiliser, Picture quality, Hot shoe etc. etc Disadvantages: None
...I have been a pretty keen photographer for many years, the last digital camera I had was a Canon G3, it was only 4 megapixels, but the quality was outstanding, far superior to my mates 8mp Fuji.
I went to Silverstone last year for the F1 practice, and got some great action shots of the cars, my only disappointment was the limited optical zoom (3x) on the G3.
I decided there and then, that the time was right to upgrade, I had no hesitation in choosing Canon again, and went for the then newly released S5 IS.
WOW, this camera is amazing, the zoom,12x optical & 4x digital, giving a total of 48x zoom is exactly what I needed, the optical zoom alone gives a 35mm SLR equivelant of 36-432 mm !!!
You would imagine that with such a massive zoom, camera shake would be a problem, however due to the image stabiliser, it isn't, I have taken many...
...I have had an olympus digi camera for a couple of years now and was getting fed up with it as it was slow and bulky so after some research i found this camera. It is new to the market and perect for what i was after.
-quick start up time
-very short lag time between photo taking and display
-huge screen on the back
-5miillion pixels
-extremely small in size
-lightweight
-tons of features and effects!
-long battery life
what more could i ask for?
It can record video and sound and it is so compact! Pentax have removed the little viewfinder which means they can allow for a bigger lcd screen which is fantastic for watching your photos back on. It has tonnes of features and the super macro mode is brilliant!
Im off on holiday to china soon and cant wait to take photos with this little camera. highly recommended!
I got it...

Review of Pentax Optio S5i
Advantages: It has everything you could want and more and it's so easy to use Disadvantages: Very small for big hands
...A fantastic small camera with every feature you could imagine. The price is very reasonable and many features are included in cameras costing twice as much.
It is very easy to ue and has pre-set settings for any type of photo you wish to take, including black and white and sunsets. Make sure you charge the battery in the cradle supplied for a good 5/6 hours before using.
The software provided is easy to use and set up on your PC as long as you have a basic PC knowledge (mainly follow the options)
Make sure you get a decent size memory card as the 64Mb card that comes with the S5i does not hold too many pictures. If you are going to do any video's then a 512Mb will get you about 30mins worth or 1000 photo's....

Review of Pentax Optio S5i
Advantages: Style, performance, comfort, good economy for performance, well built Disadvantages: Not S60 prime model
...Right up front I am going to confess that I am writing this as a slightly frustrated non-Volvo S60 driver. Strange statement that don't you think but there we are out here in the big bad world we do not always get what we want??.
??.and we (Mrs Richada and I) really wanted a Volvo S60, but not as it happens, this the most powerful 220bhp 2.4 litre T5 Sport version. 15 years ago I would have not looked at a Volvo fullstop. However if the S60 had then been on the market, this the fastest one would have been my natural choice.
Maturity and certain financial commitments now mean that I am inclined to make far more rational choices when it comes to choosing a car, no matter if I pay for it, or is currently the case I have a free choice of company car up to a given budget.
Part of my maturity also gives me pangs of conscience...

Review of Volvo S60 T5
Advantages: Complete season, engaging, witty, funny Disadvantages: Too much emphasis on story
...As my other reviews of That 70s Show DVD box sets may have shown, if you have read them before, I am an avid fan of this sitcom, set in that grand decade of peace and free loving: the '70s.
And season 5? Definitely one of the best.
The Premise
That 70s Show revolves mostly around a group of six friends living in the fictional town of Point Place, which is situated in Wisconsin (which is real, incidentally). This season takes place between 1978 and 1979, nearing the end of the decade.
In its fifth year, That 70s Show is still going strong, and though - as I've mentioned in my review of the season four box set - much of the comedy is transposable, it still includes its 1970s look and feel and the jokes that will appeal to the veterans of the decades - fond mentions of Happy Days, the long-standing mystery of 'how many...
Advantages: Range. Optical Quality. Size. Weight. Price. Disadvantages: Lens hood not supplied with lens.
...Having owned and used my Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-f/4.5 USM zoom lens for around 15 to 18 months I feel that it is in many ways, quite an exceptional lens. Effectively covering the versatile full-frame equivalent 16-35mm zoom lens, it is a valuable addition to anyone's kit.
Being an EF-S lens (the 'S' standing for 'Short' back-focus), it is designed for use ONLY with cameras having APS-C size sensors. Don't attempt to fit one to a full-frame DSLR or 35mm SLR camera. Such lenses have reduced image circles and produce vignetting on full-frame or 35mm cameras. Furthermore, the rear lens element could get hit by the reflex mirror, causing serious damage.
With a maximum aperture of f/3.5 at the widest end and f/4.5 at the more moderate end of the zoom range, the lens is not 'fast' by any stretch of the imagination. However...
Advantages: Picture Quality, Ease of Use, Small Size Disadvantages: Auto Focus in Dim light, Slow to write to memory
...that makes Contax cameras.
I do have 2 main niggles with the camera.
1. The autofocus is not very good in dim light and by that I mean indoors.
2. the camera can be slow (especially after being used to 35mm SLRs) to take multiple pictures (up to 5 seconds between shots) due to the time taken to write to the memory card. I suspect this is common of all digital cameras. This is especially noticable after shooting a video sequence.
Overall extremely pleased with the purchase and would buy another Kyocera Camera, except for the fact that the S5 is so good, I probably won't need to for a long time....
