Potty Training Tips
Review of Nappy Pants in General by
mandyco
Advantages: Makes the process easier
Disadvantages: None
...Learning to use a potty is a big step forward for your child, and what's more it's an important part of growing up. It allows your child to become more independent.
To be successful your child will need a lot of encouragement from you. You will need to stay patient throughout the training. When eventually you reach the end both you and the child will feel a great sense of achievement.
Here are a few tips.
1 Wait until the child is ready, if you start too early it can make the process a lot more difficult.
2 Don't make a big deal out of it. Carry out your life as normal, but at the same time train the child.
3 Decide whether to use the toilet or the potty. If you decide to use the toilet, make sure there is a step near by so that your child can reach the toilet. If you decide to use a potty keep it beside the toilet and explain...

Review of Anbesol Liquid by
BlueAngel
Advantages: Reaonably priced, very effective
Disadvantages: None
...How can you make teething more of an enjoyable experience for your child? Sorry, nothing mouch you can do about it. Teething hurts, and it hurts your child a lot. The only thing you can do is care for your child and try and help him at least be comfortable. This is where Anbesol comes in.
This liquid, which comes in a small bottle, is a huge help in trying to placate your child. It numbs the child's gums enough to help him fall asleep or at least stop sobbing. It is very easy to apply, a little on the finger and then dabbed on the affected part of the mouth. You can actually see the child becoming more settled quite quickly.
Anbesol is not too expensive and proves to be a very valuable addition to your child's medicine cabinet. I recommend it without question....

Ideal for children with Special Needs
Review of Early Learning Centre Electronic Activity Cube by
Vibrant
Advantages: Chunky pieces, very motivating
Disadvantages: Can't think of any
...I work in a school with a child with learning and physical disabilities. I did not hesitate to order this product from the ELC catalogue (out of the schools special educational needs budget). The activity cube keeps the child busy for a long time, and I have to prise it out of the child's hands at the end of a free session. The lights and sound makes learning great fun and very motivating. The educational side of it is that with four shapes and four numbers the child can learn through play and at the child's own pace. The child has a physical disability but with the chunky pieces the child can place the pieces with little or no help. The activity cube has easy grip handles and is a light weight product overall. The activity cube is easily carried around the class by the child. The activity cube also has a maze with beads to twist...

The Eyes of a Child
Review of Tweenies by
uptyu
Advantages: Makes children happy
Disadvantages: none
...Through the eye's of a child, the Tweenies must seem to be magical, they are colourful and always finding something interesting to do. We as adults can criticise programes such as the Tweenies, but we cannot see what a child can see. We judge the educational value of these programes, by looking through our own eyes, whereas a childs fixation is on colour and movement. We know that in an adult world the Tweenie would never survive, but in a childs world they are living things that bring happiness to children. We should be glad that in a world rife with troubles , we can see our children being made happy by programes such as the Tweenies, because the children of today are the adults of tomorrow....

Vtech Alphabet Fun Fun FUN Desk
Review of VTech Little Smart Alphabet Desk by
aflynn_01
Advantages: makes learning fun
Disadvantages: screen can look confusing
...I bought the Alphabet fun desk for my daughter for Christmas. She had had the Vtech phonics toy but had outgrown it – time to upgrade!
The alphabet fun desk is big and chunky and is sturdy enough to withstand the kind of treatment 4 year olds subject them to! It has a carry handle in the back so that your child can carry it easily as it is quite large. It has a keyboard with large buttons that are easy for a child to press; this goes in the order of the alphabet with 4 shape buttons at the end. Each key has the letter plus two words beginning with the letter plus a picture of each word. For example – a, ant, ape. The space bar is replaced with a big help button and there is a music and repeat button on either side.
The screen is a LCD and the contrast can be adjusted to get the best picture. There is also a numerical pad...

A teacher's point of view
Review of The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Eric Carle by
Tansi53
Advantages: A truely beautiful and educational book.
Disadvantages: None
...This is an old favourite in nursery, infant and special schools.
It is one of the books that has been included in SAT's lists and is a wonderful book to introduce your child to the magic of literature.
Not only does it cover the curriculum areas of Maths, English and Science but it offers a huge amount of potential follow-up work in Art and Drama that you can enjoy with your child at home and be very knowledgable about when they come home from school with their masterpiece.
Give your child a head start with this book.
Watch with fascination as your child places a finger in the holes and listens to you making gobbling noises.
Listen to your child 'read' the story from memory and slowly match the spoken words to the written ones.
See the pride your child shows as they recite the days of the week and count the fruits.
Laugh...

10 golden Rules for the behavior of child and dog
Review of Member Advice on Keeping Dogs by
AngelofHope
Advantages: Good relationship between Kids and Dogs
Disadvantages: nothing
...Hello dear Community,
When my little Daughter was older than 1 year (around of April 01) we thought that it is time to get us a dog. After thorough consideration we made a decision for a half-breed dog. However, not we selected but our daughter and the dog chose each other by themselves. From the beginning one thing was obvious: If the two won’t go along, the dog had to go, but we knew to prevent this owing to our rules. Because we have our dog since he was still a puppy, is this report for puppies.
Now it’s time for OUR rules for the behaviour between child and dog.
Rule 1
°*°*°*°
Never leave child and dog alone, while they’re playing together. A “supervisor” thereby is a must, because an accident happens faster than you can imagine.
Rule 2
°*°*°*°*
The dog has to know that he is the last in the row of the "family herd...

Horrifying
Review of A Child Called It - Dave Pelzer by
Mel24
Advantages: A warning to us all
Disadvantages: not for the weak stomached
...This book was one of the most memorable I have, or ever will, read. From the start it is graphic and terrifying. How could one person do that to another...to a child? I read the entire piece in a couple of hours, and with tears streaming down my face.
Upseting as the book was, I recommend that everyone who gets a chance reads it. Child proffessionals, parents and older children. Child abuse cannot be tolerated. This book, written so plainly and honestly, will hopefully help us all stop the signs and stop abuse before it escalates to this stage....

ONE AND ONE
Review of Helping a child with mathematical skills by
thingywhatsit
Advantages: Every child needs help
Disadvantages: A child not helped is an adult with little understanding:
...Many years ago, I taught children with learning difficulties and invented ways in which their parents could help these children to understand subjects such as mathematics. The problem stems to a certain degree from the inflexibility of the education system which caters for the majority, rather than those to whom words like "minus";,"plus" and "division" mean nothing without simple explanation. Being a child that had this problem myself I devised ways in which a child could relate to the experience of using mathematics that does relate to their life, rather than being an obscure mystery.
For example, one child that I taught had missed the boat completely and at the age of 11 years old could not perform even the most basic of mathematical skills, and no matter how much I tried to explain in simple terms, pen on paper, the traditional...

the child inside
Review of Poetry by
hotcritic
Advantages: may be someone can connect with this
Disadvantages: open to all the neggi comments, yet again!
...I have been writing reviews on products, and so far not good1
So I decided to give you all a taste of something I really enjoy. Poetry.
Poetry, I belive can be written best on real life experience. It may be your own experience, or one of someone you know.
Mine are written about personal experience.
I can only hope you enjoy.
The child inside the woman,
So long locked inside,
Found a safe place to be,
Found a safe place to hide.
Not visible to the outside world,
Kept safe, inside the mind,
oitside you see the woman,
Inside, is a child, are you blind?
Can you not see the pain,
The woman holds in heart,
Be kind, understand her,
So the child, and woman can part.
written about a woman who to the world looks normal.
But inside the woman is the child, waiting to grow and develop....
