Advantages: Quality, Software, Functionality Disadvantages: Button Design has bad ergonomics
...i'm a bit of a mobile phone buff, i've been known to change my mobile every 6 months to ensure i get the best of my current 'feature of the year' or what have you. so i think i have some merit in giving this opion, and hope its of use to you.
i previously had a panasonic gd87 - my first camera phone. i bought that one based on the verdict that it had the best camera/screen combo at the time (see my review on this site). the problem was, that panasonic just didn't have user friendly software. it was impossible to easily manage your phonebook, and it was a real pain texting - you'd end up having to delete an entire word because the t9 didn't work well.
so i decided to change, and change i did - to using a brand new siemens s55. i've had this for a good 5 months now (new change impending ;-) and this review is based on that 5 month...

Review of Siemens S55
...After having a Motorola C350 for some time I decided that it was time for a change. I looked up the Siemens S55 along with its rivals, the Nokia 6610(i) and the Ericsson T68. And upon deciding on this one I searched on the internet. To my surprise there was a hefty £150 price tag on this phone. Upon realising the fact that my wallet was going to be empty if I bought it, I looked on eBay and found several S55s for around £50.
This phone was brand new and it came with a, camera, handsfree, neck strap, PC cable and 2 instruction manuals, 1 for the phone and 1 for the camera.
This phone is around the same size as its rivals and fits nicely into the palm of your hand. It is also quite light being just 85g in weight. The design of the phone is a kind of elongated oval and the phone is very tactile. The shiny metal rims around the screen...

Review of Siemens S55
Advantages: Bluetooth, Java, Nice Camera Disadvantages: 256 Colour Screen
...which you can use drag and dropping of files.
Reception Quality:
Hard to guage this one but works where my Nokia did and there is no distortion when talking on it.
Other things of note:
Voice Commanding of phone book entries and phone navigation.
Profiles for different environments (quiet/loud). These are changeable.
Dictation machine. Allows you to record speech for about 4 1/2 mins.
Organiser to sort out your life. Tasks/Calendar etc... Can work with Microsoft Outlook and Lotus.
Calculator
Currency Converter
Stopwatch
Countdown
Vibration
POP e-mail downloading with authentication.
Polyphonic ringtones (16-channel)
Well, that's the Siemens S55 for you and it does the job for me!

Price:
£179.99 or £130 without the camera from separate internet retailers which I assume I cannot mention...

Review of Siemens S55
...I recently upgraded to the S55 on the Orange UK network. I had waited some months specifically for this and the Nokia 6100 to be released before buying.
I have owned Motorola and Nokia cellular phones in the past so this was a new brand and new way of operating to be learned.
Key criteria for my selecting this phone:
-----------------------------------------
Tri-band - so it roams pretty much anywhere;
Colour - grey/green is so uninteresting;
Bluetooth - wirefree headset and connection to PC;
Small - previous phone was a Nokia 9210 (aka Brick);
Light - see Small.
Vibrate battery - alerts me in noisy trains/offices.
Mobile email - I can keep in touch.
GPRS - quicker WAP access for information.
In competition was the latest Nokia tri-band phone (6100) which was well built and even lighter, but lacked blue tooth.
Other...

Review of Siemens S55
Advantages: The best mobile deal Disadvantages: Silly ring tones
...- called T9 on the Siemens.
Bluetooth Connectivity - It's a computer thing really, similar to Infra Red, only one step beyond.
Infra Red - For the one step backwards (My previous phone) - saves putting all those details in by hand.
WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) - Internet for the Mobile Phone.
An Alarm Clock - I have now got used to using my mobile as a wake-up call.
Price.
An with the Siemens S55 I got it all - and quite a lot of other stuff thrown in.
It's small - not something I'd always thought of as an advantage - and packed full of goodies.
An address book/calendar organiser/Message saver and sender/Records File - so you can time those calls/Surf and Games and, more importantly, a comprehensive, easy to read manual about how to set it up and get started. Big plus over my last Nokia phone. It's also a rather nice tactile...

Review of Siemens S55
Advantages: Loads of features, Plugged into Pc for easy file transfer Disadvantages: Sub-par screen compaired to newer phones
......from getting my Siemens S55, I still speak very highly of it and would recommend it to anyone,
I recieved it as a contract phone from O2 online which is different for me because My last 2 phones were pay+go, I picked it out of a selected bunch because of 2 reasons, The First being its good looks, and Second, the reliability of my previous siemens phones (C35 A55)
Design - compaired to previous siemens phones, it now has solid buttons rather than rubber ones which make it far easier to type text messages and play games etc... It is very light and fits nicely in your hand without being to small.
Features - It has been kept similar in design to previous siemens phones, has all their features and more. There is a new filesystem where you can plug it into a pc and send files to your phone like a mini computer, this comes in use if...

Review of Siemens S55
Advantages: Bluetooth, Camera, MIDI Ringtones, Dictaphone Disadvantages: MMS doesn't work, attachable camera keeps falling off, buttons fall off!
...'t. So they just seem to get lost in space somewhere. Nobody seems to be able to tell me how to fix it.
To me, the phone looks quite nice. Feels good and the buttons are big enough. The battery cover can be difficult to remove though. Especially if you don't have any finger nails. And if you have, take care not to break them!
My phones always take quite a bit of abuse - getting dropped, thrown around, chucked in my pocket and getting scratched by keys etc. This has never been a problem with any other phone, but not with my Siemens S55! No, of course it has to be different. Dropped the phone one day, expecting maybe the battery cover to pop off - but nope! That thing is practically welded shut. What happened? The silver-effect display surround fell off leaving an ugly grey (but obviously ineffective) glue instead of the shiny surround...

Review of Siemens S55
Advantages: Light, Looks sleek and cute Disadvantages: takes ages to choose functions, all ringtones are bad, just doesn't perform well enough.
...On entering the shop and embarking on a new service provider with many deals at my feet, I was torn between the Siemens S55 and the Sony Ericcson T610. At the last minute, despite having wanted the SE one, I decided on the Siemens. I had had a beautiful SL42 that served me well. And the cute add on camera swayed it for me.
A month or so down the line I had a proper go with the camera-totally terrible. Took a picture of my face, outline of dark hair, totally white face!!! The flash is too bright, and no flash won?t pick up images. The phone itself was fine for a couple of months but then I noticed that it was quite difficult writing text messages as the buttons might click but had not registered the letter so I would look back on a text message and find it made no sense and had to go back taking twice as long to send a so-called quick...

Review of Siemens S55
Advantages: Easy To Use, Polyphonic Ringtones, Colour Screen Disadvantages: Keyboard
...The Siemens S55, is quite a versatile little phone, it's capable of a lot of things and is fairly easy to use.
I've had my siemens for nearly a year now, since then my keyboard has dropped off twice, the first time the keys just didn't work and they wouldn't give the feedback that they should. Then the top 3 numbers started to come away from the phone, The second time after having this repaired the keys just came away and hang off the phone so they were virtually impossiable to use.
So far so good they haven't fell off yet. My father hasn't had this trouble yet but as he has large fingers he has trouble texting and pressed every other number but the one he wants.
Another problem with this phone is that when it rings in your pocket or bag in my case, you can't hear it even if its on the loudest setting. But when you do hear it, it...
