Is Sa Coma Mallorca Ugly

Advantages: sea, sun, chillout factor
Disadvantages: Brits, Germans, over commercialisation

...Sa Coma has been described in the AA Guide as the ugliest resort in Mallorca. Well yes, it is a typical "Majorca" holiday destination - monolithic hotel and apartment blocks surrounding a beautiful sandy but very overcrowded beach (even in October). But Mallorca is an island with contrasts from beautiful to ugly, and what you get is what you look for. Sa Coma is situated on the east coast, about an hour from the airport. It is in fact sandwiched between S'Illot and Cala Millor, both of which are equally heavily developed. But it provided us with an excellent family destination - helped by the fact that our apartment (in Playsol Apartment block) was one of the better looking buildings overlooking the beach, situated just a couple of hundred yards from it, and shops bars and restaurants all around us. Butlins in the sun!

Advantages: Plenty to do, good entertainment, great for children
Disadvantages: Some shabby accommodation, expensive supermarket

...Firstly I must say that I booked this very last minute when there wasn't much more around, and after reading a lot of very mixed reviews, I decided that we would just put our heads down and go for it, and even though we got off to a bad start, I am relatively glad that we did. The Bouganvilla Aparthotel is situated on the East coast of Mallorca in Sa Coma. There is a 1 hour transfer from Palma Airport (1hr 45 mins if the coach drops off along the way), but we took this as an opportunity to sit back see a bit of the Island. fab hotel..disgusted with the reps!

Advantages: fab hotel,fab pools,fab beach,fab price.
Disadvantages: the airtours staff,rude, arrogant.

...well we stayed at the bouganvilla for 2 weeks. 9th to 23rd june 2007. we paid £550 through mytravel(airtours) last minute.some sites are selling the same hol for as much as £1600! thats for 2 weeks, 2 adults and a 2 year old child. what a bargain. that included flights, transfers, meals on plane..but we were self catering. how cheap though. when i was an airtours holiday rep i did my training here so i couldnt wait to get back. we usually go for lively resorts when we go on holiday but felt we should go here as it would be best for our little man. its on the east coast of majorca in a little town called sa coma, near cala millor,cala bona and porto cristo. the resort is lovely and right on the beach, lots of shops, bars, restaurants, very catered for he british aswell, although theres lots of german and dutch people there. out...

Coma Gran Aparthotel

Advantages: Superb family resort
Disadvantages: very busy

...I visited Mallorca in September 2002 with my family (husband and 10 month old daughter). This was our first 'family' holiday so much time was spent choosing the resort and Mallorca itself was an obvious choice due to the flight time (approx 1.5 hours). We choose the Aparthotel Coma Gran which is situated in Sa Coma on the East coast of Mallorca. The airport transfer is approximately 1.25 hours (almost as long as the flight!) The Aparthotel Coma Gran is officially a 3 star hotel, however Skytours give it a 4 keys rating. It is worth pointing out that this hotel changes to Thompson Super Family in 2003. It is currently part of a chain called Hipotels which own a number of other hotels on the island including Marfil Playa and Aptos Paraiso which are also in the Sa Coma Resort. Heaven in Majorca

Advantages: Quiet location, lovely hotel, brilliant food, private beach.
Disadvantages: Quite expensive and could be a bit quiet.

...A fantastic family orientated hotel that actually welcomes children!! I have stayed in this hotel on 3 occasions and was very disappointed when Thomson Holidays decided to withdraw the hotel from the Skytours programme and add it to the Thomson Family programme. You may think it would make no difference but it made a huge difference to the cost for one parent families. With Skytours they guaranteed free child places at certain properties throughout the summer season but the Thomson brand only offered a discount and not a free place! The hotel itself provides a great setting for a memorable family holiday within the peaceful resort of Sa Coma, 150m away from the gentle sloping white sands of Sa Coma beach. There are also bus stops just around the corner from the main entrance to take you to nearby Cala Millor and onwards...

Majorca the Magnificent

Advantages: Short flight, English widely spoken, beautiful beaches, great nightlife, I could go on forever
Disadvantages: You have to come home

...I have been to Majorca twice in the last three years. On the first occasion, I went with my husband and our two children who were 4 and 2 at the time. We chose Majorca because of the relatively short flight time of two hours. We stayed in Alcudia at the Marte Hotel which is in an all inclusive complex which also includes the hotels Jupiter and Saturno. We went in the second and third weeks of May. The first week was very unsettled, rainy and windy, but the second week was beautiful and the temperature got warmer by the day. The resort of Alcudia is very busy but geared more for families rather than singles. The beach is sandy and very clean. We hired a car locally for a week and I think this was probably one of the best decisions we made. Car hire is very cheap. We paid about the same amount for a whole week's car hire as...

...a restaurant available serving food with different themes, although we haven't sampled this as there is such a good choice of restaurants nearby, we tend to eat out as part of our evening out and then go back to the hotel later for the entertainment. There is also a very good poolside eatery serving all kinds of snacks such as kebabs, omelette baguettes etc. The location is just fab. As soon as you step foot outside the entrance there is a Spar which is really handy for picking up milk, bread, cakes etc for snacking on. Then there is a selection of gift shops, restaurants etc on you walk down to the beach which is a nice 5 - 10 min stroll and totally flat. ...The Auto Safari (Sa Coma) is situated on the outskirts of the resorts of Sa Coma & Cala Millor. A bus and land train run between the resorts of Cala Bona, Cala Millor & Sa Coma picking up tourists to go to the Auto Safari. We were aware of the auto safari from previous visits and decided this year our children were old enough to enjoy a visit and hopped on a bus one morning. I wish we had not bothered! At the safari entrance we off loaded from the bus onto a land train and set off - the actual safari part is okay - altho' barren there is lots of room for animals to roam. Our only concern during this part was the mindless idiots who had come prepared for the monkey area and lobbed bread rolls and bananas off the 'train' - the result was a handful of monkeys launching themselves onto the 'train' and several ;terrified...
