Now, I'll admit... when it comes to food I'm quite a Mexican girl, or Italian. But I've had a bit of a 'try new things' attitude recently, so I'm trying to become braver and try foods I haven't before. Now French cuisine wasn't one I am at all familiar with. Croissants? Of course, but they were really invented by the Turks, apparently. Hence their crescent moon shape, as on Turkey's flag (I read it in a book when I was younger, maybe it's wrong... anyhow...). Snails? No way. Frog's legs? Away you tae f....eckity. I shouldn't be so stereotypical in regards to French food, surely? I mean, am I not a fan of cheese? And baguettes? And wine?!
*Ahem*

Review of Cul de Sac
Advantages: A new view of Hip Hop. Great lyrics - something different. Disadvantages: A few weak tracks.
...Me and My Music Taste
I absolutely hate rap music, and r 'n' b. Pretty much no exception, sure I like some of Eminem's songs, the ones with decent lyrics that aren't all about bitches and bling. It is because of those common themes within that music world that puts me off it, I don't want to hear some one shouting "I'll woop your head boy, you know that I will", to be that is a load of shit, that will never adorn my iPod. Anytime I hear music with such a beat I will ignore it, shout for it to be turned off. Unfortunately by 16 year old brother likes some of that said music, through hanging out with some of his Chavvy friends (thankfully he is not a chav). But one advantage of his taste, which does also include good music such as the music I listen to, is that he introduced me to this unique band, Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip.

Advantages: Everything and the kitchen sink...................... Disadvantages: Everything and the kitchen sink is heavy!
...I stole this idea from Multtinems, who challenged the ladies to spill the beans on what they keep in their handbags.........so here goes........
My Handbag - I call it mon sac magique ( from the Tots TV! )
It's black and quite large with two handles that can go on your shoulder or you can hold, a little like a briefcase bag.
There are three compartments.
Compartment one.
This contains my torch! Don't laugh, I live in a very rural area and there is no street lighting so I need one to get to the car now that the nights are drawing in.
This compartment also contains a small bottle of paracetamol, my other half has recently had a hernia op I carried these around in case he got a bout of pain (funny how these came on when I asked him to do some housework or go shopping!) My house keys are lurking in here also. There is...
Advantages: Great beats and some really nice hip-hop songs. Disadvantages: Scroobius Pip's lyrics are often hypocritical.
...we compare the song to the rest of the album, and even within the song itself. Pip criticises the self-righteous, but for most of the album he is explaining what is wrong with hip-hop and how he can make it right, and better. He has a very prescriptive opinion of hip hop, he seems to feel there was a pinnacle where it was perfect, and everything since, hasn't been as good. For a man who says "Thou shalt think for yourselves" he doesn't half force his opinion on us.
But the thing is, Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip don't appeal to hip-hop fans, they appeal to indie kids, and these kids already think that hip hop isn't very good and are therefore happy to go right along with what he is saying.
Don't get me wrong, this album isn't bad, at all. Infact the song "Tommy C" a brilliantly crafted criticism of the over use of the word 'beautiful...
Advantages: great nights sleep for baby, stops them pulling covers over face Disadvantages: none
...does not slip down into the sleeping bag.
Why use a sleeping bag?
Sleeping bags are recommended to help prevent babies from slipping under the covers or from getting covers caught around their face.
If your baby does have a tendancy to move around in the night then the sleeping bag will help to prevent moving, and keep them warm even if they do manage to wriggle off!
It also stops babies fel getting caught in the sides of the cot as they are safely tucked up inside the bag.
The slumbersac comes in three different sizes:
Size 1 - 66cm - to fit from birth up to 3/6 months
Size 2 - 86cm - to fit from 3 months up to 12/18 months
Size 3 - adjustable - 92/112cm to fit from 12 months to 2 years (folded) 3 years (extended)
The slumber sac comes with very clear guidelines as to what your baby should wear depending...
Advantages: The beautifully weird electro provided by Dan Le Sac; Scroobius Pip's flowing poetry Disadvantages: Slightly self-righteous; occasionally the lyrics cannot be heard clearly
...Angles is the opening effort from UK act Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip, and it's awesome.
QUICK REVIEW - Surreal and funky electro beats laid down by Dan Le Sac, with fantastic and diverse poetry of the magnificently bearded Scroobius Pip coming over the top. The album is from the start an effort to re-energise hip-hop with intelligent and meaningful lyrics, and at the same time a step away from the dull beat all too prevalent in modern rap. Worth it just for "Thou Shalt Always Kill".
LONG REVIEW:
This is just excellent, from the very first track an unrestrained masterpiece. Whether or not you agree with the duo's take on the issues they explore is neither here nor there; the delivery is excellent and the content well founded. Despite the depth of the subject matter they deal with it in a simple and direct way, and in doing so they...
Advantages: different, something for everyone, original Disadvantages: Still not everyone's cup of tea!
...One of my favourite acts around at the moment, these guys really are something different.
The band
~~~~~~~
Dan Le Sac - The first half of the band, Dan le Sac is the DJ who describes his style as 'Electronica, IDM, Indie'. Accompanied on stage with only a mac, Dan puts the tunes down to.....
Scroobious Pip - The vocalist / spoken word poet, Pip comes up with the incredible lyrics and amazing words. Honestly, I have never been moved to tears by live poetry before, but this man can do it. Describes his style as 'Hip-hop/ Jazz / A'cappella'
Individually, these guys are incredibly talented. If you ever get the chance to go to a spoken word poetry night go and see pip. Amazing... If I had to recommend solo stuff, id say check out '1000 words', 'when i grow up i want to be an astronaut' and 'Rat Race' by Pip, and 'Floot...
Advantages: Makes me realise the full potential and capacity of my handbag Disadvantages: Makes me realise I really need to do something about it...
...somewhere.
21. Similarly - My contact lenses - in small container.
And there we are my wonderous Sac le Magique and it's...interesting, contents.
We should do something like, Through the Key Hole. "Who would have a handbag like this?" I think probably mine would pass for student right?...
Review of What's in my bag?
Advantages: Helps baby sleep better Disadvantages: It's like being in a bean bag, when a toddler wakes up it's tricky standing up
.../her warm at night and even when it is hot, taking of a layer of clothing would keep a baby comfortable. Slumber Sac Baby Sleeping bags are sold in 2 tog ratings (how quickly the bag loses heat), 1 tog for warm temperatures, 2.5 tog for average to cool temperatures. The advantage of a 2.5 tog rated bag is that it can be used all year round. The Slumber Sac Baby Sleeping Bag is durable and can be used till a child is 3 years or is up to 112 cm in height.
Initially, I was a bit sceptical about it as I wasn't sure how a child's arms and hands could be kept warm since the bag is sleeveless. I have since discovered that as long as a child wears appropriate clothing for the room temperature, the body heat conserved by the bag keeps a child warm. I also observed that it restricts leg movement when my son wakes up and wants to stand in his cot...
Advantages: Gives you a benchmark for your writing. Disadvantages: Limited scope
...points, I think a well constructed comment that applies to the review is much more sensible and helps you to be a part of the community, but also to contribute your say to reviews and be a help to the Ciao database in general.
THE GOLD CUL DE SAC
I really feel that when you have reached Gold, there is little incentive to carry on with the community point side of things. I think that no ceiling should be put on community points, that there should always be another colour to aim at, rather than having Gold as the top benchmark and I would be tempted to close my account at Gold and start all over again, simply because I love the community side of Ciao and feel that at Gold I will have reached the pinacle as far as community points are concerned. Sure, people can trust me and I can gain points, but there is little else that Ciao offers in...
