Skate Review

Advantages: Unique and fun controls - Great graphics - Able to upload footage - Replay value
Disadvantages: Frame rate issues - Not the best Multiplayer - Long loading times

...This is a great game, in this review I will look into the main aspects of the game. I own the game on the Playstation 3 so I will be basing my review on that version but I am sure it is very similar on the XBOX 360. I hope you enjoy my review. Story: The story starts with a short video clip of you skating when suddenly you get hit by a bus. You are taken to hospital and you are so "messed up" you have to get plastic surgery. This is where you are able to customize your characters looks from body weight to hair style. You are then thrown into the action with a short tutorial to help you learn the controls. Controls: This is the main focus of the game. The people at EA wanted to create a more realistic feeling skateboarding game and make the player feel more at one with his skater. They did this by using...

Review of Skate (PS3)

Polished skating experience...

Advantages: Really well thought-out learning curve, great fun to play
Disadvantages: Controls are sometimes a little tricky

...This game came free with my PS3 a year or so ago, and I didn?t expect too much from it ? it was the pick of what looked like a bad bunch, the sort of ne?er-do-wells and over-hyped flops that are usually given away in console bundles. As it turned out, I was pleasantly surprised, and while I wouldn?t necessarily say it?s the best game I own, it is without doubt the one that has occupied the most of my time. Skate takes a different approach to the Tony Hawk games that I?d experienced before on my old PS2. Instead of accruing ?skill points? as you progress through the game, allowing your player to olly higher, skate faster and generally fall flat on his face less frequently, the onus is on you, the player, to hone your skills, going from a clumsy half-wit to a centre-fold pro over the course of the numerous and varied challenges that...

Skate xbox 360

Advantages: free roaming, nice controls, multiplayer
Disadvantages: dodgy camera at times

...Skateboarding games, there isn't really many around on the market these days, mainly because each developer that has tried to make one has relied so much on copying a certain Hawkster's game mechanics. So what happens when a developer decides to create a whole new way for you to play skateboarding games? Well that's what developer EA and Black Box have attempted to do with Skate, their new take on the genre, and it's good, really good. Let me just say this, Tony, your game is getting dated, and now you have finally realised that getting the jackass guys in on it and trading parts of your SKATEBOARDING game in for riding around in a shopping trolley doesn't really appeal to people, its time to retire for a while and take a backseat. You now have decent competition???. Now, anyone thinking that EA has decided to copy the whole Tony...

Review of Skate (Xbox 360)

Skate

Advantages: Realistic, Stunning graphics, Fun, Great Re playability
Disadvantages: Numerous glitches

...Skate, in my opinion, is probably EAs biggest success outside of the 'Fifa' franchise. It is true to skateboarding, it is realistic and represents the difficulty of learning how to skateboard. The controls are revolutionary- using the left joy stick to control the body and the right to control the board. The graphics are outstanding (in replay you can see amazing character detail such as stitches on your shoes and the wheels of your skateboard rotating) and the setting, 'San Venelona', is IMMENSE! It is a realistic city unlike anything in 'Tony Hawks'. In 'Tony Hawks' there are quarter pipes and ramps in the middle of the street however, on skate there are realistic stair sets, ledges, handrails etc. The use of video replay is good and online play is fantastic. The story challenges are fun and the idea of getting sponsered...

Review of Skate (Xbox 360)

Skate

Advantages: Amazing Gameplay/online/soundtrack everything
Disadvantages: Some bad framerate online.

...stick or using circle etc. The graphics are simply brilliant. Possibly the best yet on the PS3. But its more than that. It really does seem like you are in the game. If you miss a rail your gonna know about it cos your gonna be flat on your face or you could get your trucks stuck on the rail and that can mess you totally up. If you want a true skating game this is for you. Tony Hawks doesn\'t stand a chance. I for one will never buy another Tony game after seeing how a skating game is meant to be. Playing this game online is simply brilliant. Enter an online trick competition or race etc and play against up to 3 other people to gain exp points and climb you way up the ladder to becoming the best trickster/racer in the world! You can meet up witn you mates and simply cruise around san van in your crew taking up competitions all the while. You...

Skate (xbox360)

Advantages: Fresh take on an old genre
Disadvantages: May be harder for some players

...Electronic Arts have really thrown down the gauntlet to the creators of the Tony Hawks series with their next-gen skateboarding game. EA have managed to make a skateboarding game that gives you a feeling of satisfaction when you manage to pull off some of the harder tricks. Unlike previous skateboarding games that we have seen over the years performing tricks isn't down to a combination of button bashes hoping to link up as many un-realistic tricks before you come crashing down to earth. The developers have created a control system they call "Flickit". What this means is you actually move the right stick in certain motions to perform the trick, giving you more enjoyment at pulling off that "nollie kickflip". Graphically Skate has the usual polish that we have come to expect from Electronic Arts over the years. Another addition to...

Review of Skate (Xbox 360)

Skate. PS3 - The low down.

Advantages: Refreshing, innovative "flickit" controls, sense of achievement, fantastic online community.
Disadvantages: several glitches, occasionally drops frames (especially in online play).

... The current market The Tony Hawks Skateboarding games have up until now been the only skate games on the market. So when EA announced they would be releasing there own skateboarding game with a completely redesigned control system, the hype was incredible. Skateboarders worldwide had never been offered anything more than the quirky, often unrealistic game play of Tony Hawks, however EA Skate. was set to put that right. How Skate. stacks up The Question is... did it achieve its goal? The answer is most definately yes. Completely redesigning the typical Skateboard controls of Tony Hawk, EA got professional skaters on the team from the start to create something completely fresh and original. Together they created the "Flickit" control system. This used both Anologue sticks to accurately control the body...

Salomon ST80 limited edition

Advantages: Good looks, great price, great overall performance.
Disadvantages: Only available in one size (8.5 UK).

...Last year (2000) Salomon announced the release of two new skates, the ST90 and the ST80. For some reason Salomon decided to scrap production of the ST80 and released the ST70 (a cheaper model) instead. Last summer Salomon decided to sell off all of there sample models of the ST80 so now these samples are available. Since these are sample skates they were only ever made in one size (uk 8.5) so if this size is too large or too small for you then forget about buying these skates as riding wrongly sized skates can be detrimental to the health of your feet. Out of the box these skates look amazing. The cool blue-grey colour used for the boot is definitely the most aesthetically pleasing of on any of the recent Salomon skates. This is highlighted by the white frame which gives the skates a very clean, stylish appearance. These skates...

Hardwearing UFS skate

Advantages: UFS, long lasting, cheap.
Disadvantages: ?

...The Salomon st10 is one of the new range of UFS (Universal Frame System) skates released by Salomon just before Christmas 2001. The st10 is the budget skate which they say as aimed at beginner to intermediate skaters and they cost £140. Looking at the skate there don't seem to be many differences between these and the previously released Feinburgs other than the colours and the wheel set-up. The skates come with a nice looking blue cuff and liner, white soul plates and black salomon UFS frames. The salomon liner is one of the most comfortable and long lasting liners around. The liner features coolfit so once you've worn them a few times the mold to the shape of your feet making them much more comfortable. The wheel set-up features a nice fast rolling set-up of salomons own ST 56mm/88a wheels with a nice set of ABEC 3 bearings...

Skate 2 is a let down!

Advantages: Good new tricks, Good replay ed
Disadvantages: Near same map, Let down, Short, Hard, Glitchy

...Storyline I have decided that alot of people that will be reading this have already played or seen the demo so you all pretty know what's what. For a skating game that never really had a solid storyline it's acutally quite a solid attempt. It attempts to follow on from your charcter in skate. in a comeback story after being realeased from the slammer. Its quite predictible at times and their is no major twists but their isint that much to be expected from a skating game other than that. You meet people you like you skate, you meet people who like to challenge you and then you skate. Challenges <. Ok so challenges in Skate 2 havent varied in the form of how you play them compared to skate.. However their is quite a difference in how you mainly have to beat them. This mainly consists of you getting annoyed at really hard...
