wii ski

Advantages: great family fun
Disadvantages: n/a

...Wii is one of the greatest games consoles that I have ever purchased and I absolutely love all of the games that I have played on it to date. Wii Family Ski is a game that up to five people can play and requires the Wii Fit to be able to play. It took me a while to find the Wii Fit or as it is also known the balance board but I kept on searching and got there in the end. Wii Family Ski lets you create a character from scratch or you can import your Mii character too whilst selecting different ski gear for your character. You need to use the Nunchuck and Remote in your hands to use as ski poles and step on the Wii Board to really take advantage of this great game. The Wii Board takes over to allow the player to turn whilst skiing by measuring the swaying and leaning of the body. In Family Ski, there are 14 different slopes to...

The scary slopes of the Sheffield Ski Village!

Advantages: Good fun
Disadvantages: Quite expensive

...nervous and apprehensive about. We each paid £17 for a one hour lesson, which included the hire of all of the equipment. The first difficult task was encountered shortly after parting with our money and long before we got anywhere near the slopes since neither of us could get our ski boots on no matter how hard we tried. After a few minutes we were both rolling around on the changing room floor hysterical until a member of staff took pity on us and sorted us out. Then, with no more excuses we headed off to the nursery slope where we met our instructor, Caroline. As there was only the two of us we were put with another group of people which formed ten of us in a group of absolute beginners. The lesson began with a quick chat and then we were each encouraged to participate, under the watchful eye of Caroline. The nursery slope is very...

Ski Smooth Yogurt

Advantages: Delicious!
Disadvantages: Not big enough if anything!

...Everyone loves a good bargain...well these little yoghurts are buy one get one free in Sainsburys as I type! They're Ski Smooth Yoghurts, and are delicious. Made by Nestle, they come in blue packs of four with two flavours - strawberry and raspberry sized in 120 gram pots. As the title states, they're smooth versions so contain no 'bits' in them, something that I'm a big fan of as I hate getting little hard bits of fruit stuck in my teeth which can happen with yoghurts with the 'bits' still in them. According to the packaging, "with all natural ingredients and years of experience in blending delicious fruit with creamy tasting yoghurt, Ski yoghurts are just naturally delicious." Very much so! They're relatively thick when scooped up by your spoon but no stodgy or unpleasant when you eat it. It tastes very refreshing and precisely...

Salomon ST80 limited edition

Advantages: Good looks, great price, great overall performance.
Disadvantages: Only available in one size (8.5 UK).

...come fully equipped with Salomon ABEC 5 bearings and Medium Matt Andrews wheels (57mm 90A) so you can skate them straight away without having to replace anything. The bearings are reasonably fast and smooth as are the wheels, neither of which were especially great but did the job nicely. As soon as you get your feet inside these you will appreciate all the work Salomon have put into their liners. These and the other Salomon skates I have used have always exceeded all possible expectations when it comes to comfort and have never caused any problems with sore feet, blisters, etc. Grinding in these skates at first is a joy. The new wider soul space and harder frame make grinds easier and faster, but, after a number of falls the soul space does begin the wear away (this is easily fixed by replacing the soul plates available from http...

Skiing heaven.

Advantages: Great holiday
Disadvantages: none

...The silent majesty of the Canadian Rockies in winter is a completely unforgettable sight but the feeling of skiing down the tree lined runs is second to none. Now that Christmas is over it is time to dust off the Salopettes, dig out the passports, buy a new set of thermals and head off to the slopes. Well an introduction like that makes me sound like an expert skier who goes year in, year out racing down the black runs, well the reality doesn?t quite add up, I have been once, to one of the most peaceful, beautiful areas I have ever visited Lake Louise, in the Canadian Rockies. Lake Louise is a 2 hour drive from Calgary (direct, but very long flights available from Heathrow) the countryside on the journey goes from mildly interesting, seeing the Calgary ski jump where Eddie the Eagle made his winter Olympic name, to the beautiful...

The Greatest Skis in the World

Advantages: Fun, fun, fun
Disadvantages: None

...I will never ski on any other ski than these. I love them to pieces. In the 1999/2000 season, Salomon intrigued the ski market by introducing the first twin-tip ski for the consumer. A twin-tip ski is one that is raised at both the tip and the tail, allowing the skier to ski backwards as well as forwards. These skis heralded a revolution in the ski industry, which other ski manufacturers have joined. Despite the influx of twin-tip skis in the 2000/2001 season, the Salomon 1080s are seen by many people as being the only ski of choice. As an amateur freeride skier, I can't get enough of them. The 1080 has given me a new lease of life over the whole mountain. When jumping, I now have the option of landing or taking off backwards, without fear of having the tails of my skis jam into the snow and me ending up in a heap...

The best ski resort in the world

Advantages: The accommodation, the skiing, the nightlife... everything.
Disadvantages: More costly than europe... but worth it!

.... There are vast areas of untouched powder snow, gladed runs that take you James Bond style through the trees as well as a huge variety of marked runs that offer something for people of all abilities. There are wide-sweeping pistes ideal for the beginner, harder diamond black runs for the more experienced and double diamond blacks involving 2 to 5 metre drop-ins just to get onto the run for the truly insane (yes before you ask I include myself in this category). Added to the fantastic range of skiing available, the snow is now widely thought of as the most reliable in North America, and the conditions over the last few years have always been good during the regular season (usually late November to late April). Other things of note in regard to skiing:- - The equipment for hire is very high quality – usually last only one or two...

The original freeride skis

Advantages: Ease of turning, handling, style, following.
Disadvantages: None I can think of.

...I go to Sandown ski club ever week, and I always try to get the Salomon X-Screams. They are incredibly easy to turn, have a nice carving action, and are probably one of the best skis around. They have a huge free-ride following, and are used by beginners and experts alike. They are the skis by which all others are judged. The newer X-screams have the Prolink arms 'to guarantee ski/snow contact'. Wether it actually works is another matter... but it sounds and looks cool! So basically, these skis will suit anyone, especially those who are looking to improve their turning and confidence, and want to learn how to carve easily. Excellent skis!...

Top Five Resorts For Pre-Christmas Skiing

Advantages: Cheaper, Less Crowded, Atmospheric...
Disadvantages: May Be Cheaper, But Still Not Cheap!

...WHY PRE-CHRISTMAS? Well, it isn't just that greedy snowboarders & skiers such as myself are too impatient to wait until the season proper, which traditionally begins after Christmas?or not entirely, anyway. But there's nothing lovelier than a White Christmas, in a scenic location, and few locations are lovelier or more scenic than some of the world's best ski resorts. A long weekend spent on the slopes in the lead-up to the festive season can be incredibly satisfying, especially if you can manage to squeeze in a night's stay in Geneva, Zurich or Vienna en route, and visit one of the continent's more charming Christmas markets into the bargain. Speaking of bargains, there are more than a few to be had before the Peak-Season officially begins, when prices generally skyrocket, and pre-Christmas slopes are often very pleasantly under...

On the Piste - Tips for your Skiing Holiday

Advantages: Exhilarating pastime, scenery
Disadvantages: Travel times, expence

...feel a bit lonely and not as much fun but is a good option for the intermediate skier who only needs a few hours brushing up on certain techniques. If you are not fluent in the local lingo you do need an instructor who is fluent in English. Once again ask for personal recommendation when looking for a ski school, the Ski Club of Great Britain are a good resource and at many resorts you will find British and English speaking tutors out there for the duration of the season. EQUIPMENT If it is your first skiing trip don't look to buying expensive equipment until you know skiing is for you. Certainly don't borrow equipment either. Apart from being a responsibility ski equipment must be balanced to you and items such as boots mould to the owners foot shape. Your ski school or tour operator will often recommend which local hire...
