Albatros Apartments Salou

Advantages: Clean, Cheap, Cheerful
Disadvantages: A big, busy resort

...In August of this year my hubby and our son (14) and daughter (9) stayed in Salou for 2 weeks. We stayed in the Albatros Apartments, which were situated on a bit of a hill about 10 minutes walk from the main strip. We liked the situation of these apartments as Salou is quite a hussley bussely place and quite noisy at night time, but where we were was fairly quiet. The flight from Glasgow only took 2 1/2 hours and the coach journey from Reus Airport to the Albatros Apartments only took 1/2 hour, so travelling time was great. Check in was also very quick, there were quite a few people who arrived at the same time as us, but there were 4 or 5 receptionists doing check in. Salute Salou

Advantages: Great weather, Great rides.
Disadvantages: Queing, bit pricy, aching legs.

...I've just returned from a break in Salou, Spain and during my stay there visited this theme park. It came highly recommended but did it live up to my high expectations ? Location = Port Aventura is a theme park owned by Universal and is located right next to the popular Spanish resort of Salou on the Costa Dorada. It is situated in the new town of Salou and can easily be reached on foot by hotels in this area. Alternatively if your not within walking distance it is only a two minute train journey from Salou's railway station (3 euros). Buses, taxis and road trains also do services which drop you off right outside the main entrance. There are two hotels onsite also owned by Universal which add extra convenience if your really lazy! Local towns such as Tarragona, Cambrils, Cap Salou and La Pineda also offer a bus service...

Advantages: Very friendly and helpful staff Lovely pools

...We stayed at the Calypso Hotel in Salou for a 7night trip. On our arrival (10pm) we were politely dealt with by the reception staff. We were put on the top floor of the older building (This was OK for myself and my husband and 12 month old baba , but I wouldn't want to stay on this floor with young children. The lifts were good, and they always worked, and even though they only held 4 people, we didn't have to wait long. Our room was way too small really, and it had very dated furniture and an uncomfortable bed. We had lots of storage space for clothes etc. This room slept 4, but I wouldn't want to stay in it with any more than 2 people. The bathroom was brilliant, and it was very very clean. The shower was excellent, and we were supplied with clean towels and toilet rolls every day. I wish I could have a shower as powerful as...

Salou - The Latest Brit Hotspot

Advantages: Reasonably priced, hot, fun
Disadvantages: Becoming quite commercialised

...During my gap year before I went to university, I worked for a travel company called Siesta International Holidays. I was one of their reps in Spain and was sent to Camp Sanguli in Salou. I was a little wary at first, mainly because my Spanish isn't very good, but I very quickly fell in love with the place. With a long promenade lined with palm trees and beautiful, long, golden beaches, what wasn't to like? ACCOMMODATION: As I previously mentioned, I was a rep on a camp site. This was called Camp Sanguli, situated at the older end of Salou which is a little quieter than the new town. The site itself is large with two supermarkets, two large pools, numerous take-aways, bars and restaurants plus good security. ******THE SUN ALWAYS SHINE IN SALOU******

Advantages: Excellent value for money, brilliant location & good sized rooms
Disadvantages: Maids didnt change beds & didnt see them clean pool

...on the Costa Dorada about 20mins away from Salou. We only visited Salou once on our holiday & we couldn't remember it but my mum said it was nice & I had heard that it had good nightlife, a theme park & 2 water parks. Perfect the destination was chosen. Then out of curiosity I logged on to Ryanair's website & couldn't believe what I was seeing Stansted to Reus 99p obviously I knew that wouldn't be the price but I knew it would be cheap. With all the taxes & baggage fees it came to £32 return. Bargain! Now I had to find a hotel I searched all the usual hotel search engines & I came across a few which seemed the cheapest by about £10 on a website called Go Spain which I wasn't familiar with so I wasn't confident booking with them. So for my peace of mind I opted for Alpharooms.co.uk, which I knew, were respectable & were only around £10 more expensive...

Review of Hotel San Diego, Salou

HOTEL CALYPSO- SALOU

Advantages: Clean, tidy, drink prices, food (aint that bad), entertainment-day (games), Thomson kids club, 4 pools
Disadvantages: Positon in town, entertainment on evening (mimed), lots of school parties

...for excursions when alot cheaper to do it yourself like we did. Barcelona is only 11 euros on train but station is otherside of Salou from this hotel. Supermarket round the corner is very cheap for basics we bought booze and sat on our balcony as 2 lite of coke for 1.73 euros and 1 litr bacardi was only 6 euros. Snacks by the pool are reasonably priced. Hotel is very very clean and tidy, maid service very good. Beds are just fold up camp beds which makelot of noise (if you know what I mean) no good if kids sharing ur room they\'ll wake up ours were in rooom next door and still woke up. For a cheap bargain would stay again we paid £616 for week HB for 2 adults and 2 children....

Hotel Belvedere Salou A good 3*

Advantages: Plenty to keep kids happy
Disadvantages: some of the hotels behind were a bit of an eye-sore

...Belvedere Hotel- Salou (Costa Dorada). We visited this hotel for one week last May 2005, we choose this Hotel and resort because of price(£650 for 2 adults and one child) and within 2 hours of the U.K. ********************* It is only about half an hour away from the airport and the airport is very small so getting through it is usually pretty quick and easy, unless the baggage handlers are on a go-slow! ********************** On arrival at the hotel check-in was very quick and went to our room in the lift. ********************** The room was ample big enough for the three of us with 2 queen size beds and put you up bed for our son. salou cambrils parc

Advantages: great for the kids, so much to do
Disadvantages: mad & expensive taxi drivers!!

...this holiday was a deal from the sun - £9 a person. perfect for a family and doesnt break the bank balance!! for 2 adults and 2 children with added insurance it cost only £73 for 5 days & 4 nights. we had to pay for our own flights and went with easy jet, this cost about £240 - i urge you to book your flights about 4 weeks before, i checked on the easy jet website 2 days before we went and the same flights were costing £1200! we took the flight from gatwick to barcelona airport. the taxi from the airport into salou was about £100 (160 euro) bearing in mind its going to cost the same amount back, i would advise that if you have a license then to hire a car, unfortunatly we dont drive so didnt have this option. it took about and hour to get to the parc - i will warn you that the taxi drivers on the rank at barcelona airport drive...

...The main reason I chose this holiday was because it was a cheap last minute offer. As a student, a strict budget was the order of the day and the Costa Dorada appeared to live up to my requirements. Reus airport, which serves charter flights for this region, is small but ample for your general needs. Salou itself is a lovely town with a gorgeous, long sandy beach. There are plently of facilities at the beach itself; peddle-boat hire, sun-bed and parasol hire, toilets, showers, volleyball nets, gym, ice-cream vendors and even a funfair which is open until late at night. There are plenty of shops and stalls in the town which are definately aimed at the tourist market; watch out for religious figurines in a sea-shell!! The main attraction in Salou has to be the Universal Studios theme park, Port Aventura. This makes for an excellent few...

Review of Salou in General

Golden Donaire Park hotel, La PIneda, Salou

Advantages: location near beach ... transfer from airport ... kid friendly
Disadvantages: No laundry service ... no fridge or tea making facility in room

...Having just returned from an early season (early May 2009) week at the Donaire park, La Pineda with our 3 year old I would definately recommend this hotel for families with younger kids but it would also be a great base for anyone who wants to visit the areas around Salou and Barcelona. there were organised trips to go on and a regular bus service or coach and rail services available. The weather was a bit cloudy but mostly sunny but this didn't stop us enjoying our time there. Our little girl loved the kids tots club sessions and daily evening mini disco's started at 8:30pm (the entertainment staff were great and kept all the kids entertained with their dance moves and sing-along routines).
