stylish salters on a budget
Review of Salter 433 Compact by
mandrea
Advantages: looks nice in your bathroom
Disadvantages: needs calibrating regularly
...cheapest in the shop. Expect to pay more for electronic and chrome scales and those fancy ones that measure your body fat percentage. They also do very simple, plain white mechanical scales for around £7.
The scales do look very smart, they have a plastic, dark silver weighing pad and a black metal base. They have a small window in the top to show your weight, with the Salter brand logo in the window. These scales go up to 120kg (18 stones) and measure in both kgs and stones and lbs depending on what you are used to.
Stones and lbs are measured in black writing while kgs are measured in red.
I had to fiddle about with the calibrater underneath (a small dial) to get the scales back to zero and this is something that i have found i need to do every 3 or 4 times i use the scales, as somehow they manage to put themselves either 2 or 3 pounds under...

Enjoy weighing yourself !
Review of Salter 9030 by
robert1
Advantages: Compact, very easy to use and read, 10 year guarantee
Disadvantages: None
...clean and possibly trapping moisture and leading to rust.
The electronic models are sometimes fashion statements, which frankly doesn't interest me. Sometimes they claim to measure body fat, again something of no interest (in any case, I wouldn't trust the measurement, surely it depends on how thick your skin is and whether it's dry or wet?). Some models have a clock - who looks at their scales when they want to know the time? They can also be difficult to read although some have a separate read out that you can fix on the wall at eye level. Not suitable for me as the scales are under a window.
Hunting around John Lewis' store, I noticed the Salter 9030. Brilliant ! Why? Only 32cm square, white plastic top with no raised edges. Reads in pounds, stones and pounds, or kilograms, preselected by a sliding switch underneath. The LED display...

Review of Tanita Body Fat Monitor by
ragdoll
Advantages: Accurate Weight and Body Fat readings
Disadvantages: none at all
...A A batteries are needed. These will last about a year because
of the automatic power switch off.
Full instructions with Graphs showing Healthy Body Fat Range.
Nutritional hints are included.
The reason i bought the Tanita Body Fat Monitor was that since i left Slimming World i needed to keep an accurate check on my weight.
The price i paid for this nifty device was £38.99.
This was Todays Special Value on Q.V.C
This may seem expensive but bear in mind you are getting two products
in one.
My last Scales were made by Salter with a dial, completely unreliable

So no more Bathroom antics for me!!...

There is more to weight management than you think
Review of Salter 9117 by
laramax
Advantages: Gives you a detailed analysis of your body composition
Disadvantages: You need to do a little reading before the results mean anything
...measure of fitness than weight alone because you don't want to lose muscle mass rather than fat. You always need to be aware that fast weight loss can mean you lose muscle mass and the heart is a muscle you certainly don't want to damage.
Would I recommend them?
Yes if you are very health conscious and are wanting to keep your body in balance. Salter include a very helpful leaflet explaining what you are measuring and why which is quite informative. The scales are not suitable for anyone with a pacemaker as they work by passing a very tiny electrical current through your body. Don't worry you don't feel a thing but you do need to step on with bare feet to ensure you get a reading.
They are very stylish and look good in the bathroom with their smart stainless steel finish. At the moment with the half price offer they are very good...

ARE YOU AS FAT AS YOU THINK
Review of Tanita Body Fat Monitor by
frannie
Advantages: A DIGITAL, NO-NONSENSE WEIGH IN
Disadvantages: IT'S FAR TOO ACCURATE FOR MY LIKING
...We had debated for a long time before we bought these scales as to whether or not it was going to be worth it. At a couple of pennies short of £50, it did seem a lot to pay out when you can buy scales in Argos for a tenner. However, we thought ‘what the heck’ and bought the scales from Boots in Walsall at a cost of £49.99.
Once the packaging was opened, we found a very informative booklet explaining the workings of the scales. It explains the principles of measuring body fat, what body fat percentage is, explains how your body fat can fluctuate during the day, why it is important to measure body fat and the best one is that it give you a healthy percentage of body fat depending on your sex and age.
So, like the big kids that we are, we jumped on the scales to see what they came up with. To measure your percentage of body...

State of the Art Scales
Review of Tanita Body Fat Monitor by
Suzan
Advantages: Very accurate readings for most people
Disadvantages: Bit expensive
...This is the time of year when many of us will be jumping onto our bathroom scales to check just how much weight we have put on over Christmas and jumping off again in shock! But according to the manufacturers of the Tanita Body Fat Monitor, how much we weigh is not the whole story. Someone may well be an acceptable weight, but still be carrying too much body fat, which is detrimental to their health.
You see, normal scales cannot tell the difference between a pound of fat and a pound of muscle (which weighs more than fat) so it is important to know just what percentage of your weight is body fat. The Body Fat Monitor tells you your weight and then measures your percentage of body fat.
How does it work?
The monitor uses a method called Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis, which basically involves passing a very low, safe electrical...

Is it just a gimmick
Review of Tanita Body Fat Monitor by
Xyanthe
Advantages: Calculates your body fat percentage, and can be used as conventional scales.
Disadvantages: Very expensive and can be inaccurate.
...In today’s society many people are now beginning to actively look after their health, weight and take regular exercise.
If you are one of these people - then you might benefit from owning the Tanita Body Fat Monitor/Scales. These have been developed in direct response to growing concerns about fat-related illness’, which include high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and several forms of cancer. Unfortunately, unlike weight, body fat is not always visible and cannot be measured on ordinary scales. This monitor also gives you the convenience and privacy of being able to check and monitor your body fat within your own home.
The Tanita Body Fat Monitor is more than just conventional scales; it can measure weight and also calculates your body fat percentage. So if you are trying to lose weight or are just keeping fit...

Precision Weight Readings
Review of Weightwatchers 8991U by
kelr101
Advantages: Accruate weight readings, BMI, Body Fat, Body Water
Disadvantages: Slightly expensive for weight scales
...Although I have always had a rough idea of how much I weigh, I never owned a pair of scales until recently. I've always been a bit of a control freak with my weight, having been bullied when I was younger, mainly through being that little bit bigger than the popular kids. So having joined a gym recently to take control of my body and actually love who I am, I thought I would also purchase some scales…but not just ordinary scales, those that gave a little bit more information about the state of my body as well.
*Purchasing*
I chose to purchase the Weight Watchers Body Fat Precision Electronic Scales which are available from Argos (and other good retails stores) for £34.99. The Weight Watchers Precision Scales use the latest technology to provide readings of Body Weight, body Fat, Body Water Percentage and Body Mass Index (BMI...

Oh my god, the scale of the problem!
Review of Salter 9000 by
paulhanton
Advantages: Fantastically accurate.
Disadvantages: Horribly accurate.
...These are a plain white set of electronic scales bought from ASDA for £10, which considering they have a 15 year guarantee seems to me to be pretty good value.
they are pretty thin, less than an inch and a half thick, the scales wiegh around 2lb (there is no techie info with them) and can weigh up to 23 stone (not that I need that) and can weigh in stones and lb's (and ounces), lb's only or KG. All of which show on an electronic display. To switch between display modes is simply a black plastic switch on the underside.
The operation of these scales is a little different to other scales I have used, where instead of just stepping on, one has to 'tap' the scales first as vibration activates them, wait 3 seconds then step on, once the weight is displayed the display remains for 15 seconds.
There is a very helpful instruction sheet...

It measures up really well
Review of Tanita Body Fat Monitor by
WAD1-2-3
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...For some odd reason we’ve always had weighing scales that never work, when I say never work what I mean is that they tell you the wrong amount either a couple of months to much or to less. So, when my Mum suggested we get the Tanita Body Fat Monitor I was all for it.
Now weighing is so precise, you will be amazed at it’s accuracy. No more one pound out or having to put the scales in a certain direction. The measurements are recorded in Pounds, Kilograms or stones. I personally prefer stones myself. It also gives you an accurate body fat reading.
Very simple to use it will no time getting used to it. Just touch the weight only key and then weigh yourself and wait for your weight. You can also measure body fat, this entails entering some details about yourself, like sex, whether you’re an adult or child, height...
