...Salvador, in the state of Bahia, north east Brazil (or São Salvador da Baía de Todos os Santos as it was named in the past) was the first colonial capital city of Brazil and, although power shifted to Rio de Janeiro in the late eighteenth century, then to Brasilia in 1960, it retains much of it's past grandeur and colonial architecture. One of the main reasons to come here, however, is the wonderful mix of cultural influences that make the cuisine, music and lifestyle here so different even to other parts of Brazil. The population of over three million, consists mainly of people with African origins descended from slaves, although there have been many other strong influences through Salvador's history. Exotic oceanic experience from Dali

Advantages: Collectible, unusual, feminine, long-lasting
Disadvantages: From the middle notes onwards it waters down a bit

I have a rare, original 50ml 1990's bottle in my collection together with a new 8ml pen edition of the fragrance and a one I'm using occasionally. Although not well known, Laguna has been around since its 1991 launch and in my opinion, proved to be a timeless, unusual fragrance that hadn't probably earned as much respect as it deserved. I've recently found a couple of vials of Rubylips, a 2004 addition to the Dali fragrance arsenal. Parfums Salvador Dali, the perfume house isn't widely known outside France I'd say, it was created and signed by Dali in 1982 to allow worldwide licensing of his works of fragrances and bottles designed by himself in the 1950-60s. The bottle The Rubylips Eau de Toilette is recogniseable by their distinctive lip motive and is a representation of Dali's Ruby Lips brooch created in 1949 from ruby coloured crystals and faux pearls. Review of Salvador Dali Rubylips Perfume

An excellent war film

Advantages: Great characters, plenty of action, enjoyable to watch
Disadvantages: None

...Salvador is one of my favourite films, released in 1986 and directed by Oliver Stone it has near faultless performances from the actors and the filming of the war in El Salvador gives a brutal and moving account of what it was like to be there in 1980. The film moves along at a fast pace and you won't be able to move from the tv, it also starts off in a relatively fun way as Richard Boyle (James Woods) plays a journalist in California who is down on his look, out of work, his wife and baby leave him, his house is a mess and he's drinking heavily - he recruits his close friend a fat pill popping, weed smoking DJ who goes by the name of Doctor Rock (Jim Belushi) - they head down to El Salvador in a car, drinking, cracking bad jokes and generally having un all the way. A Gutwrenching but terrific political drama

...American foreign policy was a dirty business back in the Reagan 80s. The troubles of Central America in general and Salvador in particular seemed quite remote 3000 miles away in England. It's easy to make simple assumptions - "oh yes, America will deal with it and all will be well again." But that's just the abstract spin-doctor view any dodgy Government would want us, the public, to believe in. I saw this movie many years ago on the BBC during one of their political film seasons. I woudn't have really bothered but I'm a great fan of James Woods, and I'd also seen "Under Fire" the week before and that too had Central America in its sights. ...The phrase "cut the atmosphere with a knife" is often over used, but in the case of Salvador it is an understatment. In all my travels (109 countries on every continent) I have never visited such an electrifying city and that includes Rio. Perhaps it was the fact that it was Christmas but the city was alive with music, you hav'nt lived until you have heard "White Chrismas" to a samba beat. Salvador is unlike any other South American city, it was here that the black slaves were bought over from Africa to work the plantations. Drugs, Violence and Voodoo

...We arrived in Salvador in the middle of a strike. But it seems there's always a strike in Salvador. The electricity workers were on strike for a 140% rise because they hadn't had one since April and it was now August. The hotel workers joined them after a couple of days for similar reasons, and we had to clean our own rooms and make our own beds, we even had to cook our own breakfasts if we wanted something hot. The management put the food out at the crack of dawn and left us to fend for ourselves. Every morning we woke at 6 am to the sound of whistles, yelling and loud hailers, as the strikers formed their picket line right outside the hotel. This racket went on all day but it was difficult to avoid. Two more days and the airlines went on strike for 180% rise and there were people stranded who couldn't get home, or to their next...

The parfume to use to seduce men

Advantages: men find it irrestistible (trust me)
Disadvantages: doesn`t stay on long

...So far I have met only one person in my life whose favourite parfume was Salvador Dali`s Dalimania. And it was me.lol I first bought this perfume about 3 years ago, and haven`t found any better yet. It`s somewhat difficult to explain why. There is something about the fruity, exotic smell, that is really hard to define. It`s definitely not the type of parfume you would wear on an everyday basis, it`s too strong for that. But wearing it on a night out, or on a special night with your partner, I don` t think there`s a better choice. When I wear this parfume people can`t help asking what kind of perfume I`m wearing, men and women both. I remember one occasion on a night out a guy I was really interested in kept sniffing my neck and hair, while he couldn`t stop praising the perfume. Unfortunately he passed out drunk later on so I could forget...

5 tips for praia do forte

Advantages: friendly people,very cheap,and such a pleasant laid back feeling,even the ant leave you alone...
Disadvantages: all inclucive,airport imigration very slow,the government said they were trying to speed things up,but after the horrendous tragidy in america.i think slow imigration and security is something we will all have to get used to.which can only be a good thing

...a killer.also one or two sharks were spotted . 5,and finally..dont be afraid to join in,the bahians love to dance.sometimes all night,and locals from salvador will travel to praia at the weekends,so things get really lively..they love it when holiday makers or travellers get up and have a go ,also sample the local food.it's a miss conception that bad stomaches come from local food.dehidration and too much sun play more of a part.we ate from a stall at the side of the sand path leading through praia,and had to keep going back to see if it was cooked yet..he wouldn't let us have it til the chicken was cooked all the way through...and it was delicious,be careful of any sauce they may put on the food ,its the hottest thing iv'e ever eaten.but nice when added to a soup,so nice infact i brought some home.......

Warm summer nights......

Advantages:
Disadvantages: Not easy to find in the high street

...My first smell of Salvador Dali was as a free sample from a womens magazine. It was only a tiny vial and I was hooked from the first sniff. It has a spicy yet sweet smell which evokes memories of warm summer nights sitting in the garden at dusk, listening to nature's sounds. This unique aroma would be well suited to a slightly more mature woman and the design of the bottle looks wonderful on the dressing table!! It can usualy be bought in airport shops but I can't seem to find it quite so easily in the high street. There are other fragrances in the range so, as I am going on holiday soon, I intend to treat myself!...
