When I was playing with them last week I found myself playing with these Martin Yaffe fireman Sam figures. These figures are also sold under the born to play label. I notice there is a set of 5 of these figures available including Sam. Tom, Penny, Nurse Flood and Norman. They all look identical to the tv characters dressed in their uniforms ready for action. The faces of these figures are more expressive have more character than Playmobil figures These figures are all about 9cm tall a good size for a child to grip and move about . Excellent Elliott, O how we miss you

Advantages: A genre straddling pop album that has a great lifespan
Disadvantages: will not interest the fickle listener who's into 3 minute pop-tarts

...Being a cult hero is a two-edged sword. On the one hand you're appreciated for being individual, brilliant and anonymous to the mainstream. On the other, you suffer the fate of being liked just because it's "cool" to and never really properly understood. Elliott Smith died in 2003 and took his place alongside cult figures, Buckley, Cobain, Drake and so on.. (not necessarily alphabetically, but you get the picture). Behind him he left a body of work that has the potential to be celebrated for longer than the 34 short years of his own life. But let's not get sentimental about this particular album XO which I'm reviewing and fall into the trap of immortalising something on cult grounds alone. If you had no background knowledge of Elliott Smith and took this album on face value, there are certainly grounds for celebrating the discovery...

...Fireman Sam is a very popular children's character. This DVD was bought for my 3 year old who has taken a liking to him and especially Jupiter, the fire engine. The front cover of the DVD has a picture of Jupiter with Sam, Elvis and the Station Officer inside and above this is the title, there is also a small picture of the mountain rescue helicopter in the background. The back cover of the case is a nice bright yellow colour on the middle with the names of the 6 episodes and a bit about Fireman Sam. Around the edge of the back cover is a bright red border. THE DVD There are a total of 5 episodes on the DVD. 1 - Danger: Falling Sheep. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. ...My son is a huge Fireman Sam fan I think we have nearly all of the dvds now apart from the new computer animated ones. The Fireman Sam series is a fictitious village set in Pontypandy in Wales, the real towns that the stories are based on are Pontypridd and Tonypandy. I remember a long time ago when Fireman Sam first came out on S4C in Wales! He has been revamped in the last few years but I am a fan of the earlier episodes [which is lucky as I have had to endure many, many hours of them over the years!].
