...I am a huge fan of The Rat Pack and it is with a great sense of fulfilment that I received this CD as the music is not nostalgic to listen to but the banter between Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and Frank Sinatra is something from another time completely. The recording was made in November 1962, where the threesome played the Villa Venice in Chicago and although not all the soundtrack is from one particular night as the recording was taken from the whole week of performances, you get the idea that they were enjoying themselves on stage. Backed up by a big band orchestra it gives the sound of the sixties that was truly unique to these three artists. The breakdown on the disc is as follows?? 1. Fanfare Introduction 2. ...Probably best know as one of The Rat Pack with fellow singers Sinatra and Dean Martin, and perhaps having to live in their shadow. Sammy Davis Jnr. was the ultimate all round entertainer - mimic, dancer, musician and singer. Jazz singer? Yes, especially on the evidence of this superbly presented 4 CD box set by Rhino Records with a set of postcards (though he was no pin-up!) and extensively researched full colour book.The tracks range from 1949, his version of 'Smile Darn Ya Smile' and closing with some live tracks from the 70's. And he worked with the best musicians and band leaders : Don Costa, Nelson Riddle,Billy May,Buddy Rich and Quincy Jones. Davy Crockett ranch - Disney

...I went to Disneyland last week with my family and stayed there for 3 nights at the Davy Crockett Ranch. I have now visited Disneyland Paris 6 times and have also been to Disney world in Orlando as well last year. However I have stayed at the Disney hotel and a few of the others but I have to say that Davy Crockett ranch has to be one of the best ones there and certainly my favourite as it has so many great features and offers much more as well as being more free. The Accommodation: When you stay there you will be put in a small wooden cabin in a particular area which are all named such as Tomahawk or Bobcat. Each small 'camp' includes about 50 to 100 cabins all with separate parking spaces and outdoor bins. Inside you have a choice of either a one or two bedroom hut and all of them can sleep up to 6 people, with a double bed...

...Steve Davies - 6 times world champion and absolute snooker king of the 80s! He can't play anymore, but boy can he commentate! I used to enjoy watching Davies in the 80s when I was a young lad, my father being a keen watcher of snooker. There is no doubt that Davies was the king of modern snooker then, when the sport was just becoming accepted as a television sport. Lots of women apparently used to find him extremely attractive - with his tall thin demeanour, and the way he used to slide his cue back and forth between the dimple in his chin. Whatever turns them on! The attraction of Davies was clearly that he was the young kid on the block in the 80s, and he took on what was largely a group of older established men who played slowly and drank lots of beer. ...I actually stumbled upon this channel by accident, whilst flicking through the channels one day. After many years of watching cbeebies (bbc channel for pre school children) I felt it was time for a change. Mainly because we had been watching the channel almost every day for nearly 4 years (not continuously obviously only for a few hours each day) and by now I think we probably had seen every episode of each programme shown at least twice over if not more :O) It probably didn't bother Chloe or Lee, but was definitely starting to get to me. And there's only so many times you can sit there and watch the teletubbies over and over again without before getting seriously phased by it, i am sure you know what I mean :O) So anyway whilst flicking through the channels I came across NICK JR. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging.
