Rubicon
Advantages: Well-produced, melodic rock
Disadvantages: Didn't quite have the magic of Fields of the Nephilim
...Formed from the ashes of prog-rock-goth Fields of the Nephilim following the demise of that band in 1991, Rubicon were, some say, cursed from the outset by virtue of the strong identity and image of their former incarnation. FOTN vocalist Carl McCoy having departed to immerse himself in other projects, the remaining members of the band formed Rubicon with new vocalist Andy Delany, who was much more of a prog-rock singer than Carl McCoy was, complete with a clean, dramatic style which *should* have worked well with the music but somehow didn't.
Still, there is much to commend Rubicon. Their first album, "What Starts, Ends" was released in 1992 to a mixed reaction from critics and fans alike, but it deserves better than the lukewarm reaction it initially received. To an extent it continued the arty prog-rock leanings of Fields...

Healthy Alternative (Rubicon Sparkling Mango)
Advantages: Healthy, Tastes Good
Disadvantages: Tastes Healthy
...When I went to the corner shop yesterday, I was looking for something different to drink. I spotted this drink called Rubicon Sparkling Mango. This came across as very different as I have not tasted a fizzy mango flavoured drink before. I usually go for fizzy orange flavoured drinks.
The drink was in a 500ml bottle and the label was blue and orange. This meant it was very eyecatching. Even more eyecatching was the orange band along the top of the label that said ?thirst quenching 89p?. The front of the label also tells you that this drink contains real fruit juice.
On the back of the label it tells you that the drink contains real mango juice, no artificial sweeteners and that it is made with spring water. The ingredients are:
Carbonated Spring Water, Sugar, Mango Puree (8%), Malic Acid, Preservatives (E452i, E202), Anti...

Relaxing with Rubicon
Advantages: Tasty and refreshing
Disadvantages: Not a pure fruit juice
...Before this afternoon, Rubicon was a name unknown to me. Trawling round Sainsbury's, searching for something to cook for dinner tonight, I, as usual, wandered over to the "Reduced" section of the supermarket. The blue and orange of the packaging stodd out immediately. Mango juice? Could be interesting - and it's on special offer, so if I don't like it, it doesn't matter!
I wandered over to the till to pay for my purchases, and stumbled home, arms overflowing, as normal, with dozens of carrier bags.
Thirsty from the trek back, I decided to try it on my return. Pulling the carton from the carrier bag, I first looked more closely at the packaging. The carton is a standard Tetra-Brik fruit juice carton, and I'm very grateful to the manufacturers for sealing the carton with a tab, as hunting around for a pair of scissors to snip...

Samson 6 in 1 (branded Wildcat in my case)
Advantages: clear pulp free juice
Disadvantages: very poor juice yield
...I have no axe to grind and equally I don't sell juicers so this is my honest review.
I have just bought a Samson and I am very disappointed, here's why.
First up the juice yield is very, very poor, nothing like the 9 out of 10 touted in these reviews (ad's). My ten year old Kenwood centrifugal JE600, now £10 new, produces approx 650/680 ml of juice from a kilo of carrots, just enough for my family of three to get a glass each in the morning. The Samson, £169 and one day old, returned 450 ml that is 30/33% less, a big loss and a massive waste of carrots. More importantly for me one glass short of the three I need.
Ah but the quality of juice I hear the salesmen call. Well it's a matter of preference here, I prefer the Kenwood, okay it's a little foamy and cloudy but it has some texture to it, my wife preferred the Samson for its...

Not a strong production
Advantages: Hamilton, Bauer and von Sydow in tolerable performances
Disadvantages: Everything else
...The story of Samson and Delilah is one of the better known stories from the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. It seems strange, therefore, that films almost always get the story wrong.
This 1984 version of the Samson and Delilah story gives Max von Sydow, the governor of Philistine Gaza, the top billing, because the stars playing the title roles were not as well known. Belinda Bauer portrays Delilah in a sultry but somewhat flattened role, and Antony Hamilton is 'introduced' as a new star, despite having made appearances prior to this production. Belinda Bauer is considered an American actress, despite being born in Australia; Antony Hamilton is considered an Australian actor, despite being born in Britain. The desert lands of the setting for this film are definitely not Gaza nor the northern end of Israel/Palestine, so in many ways...

The Joy of Mastication
Advantages: Beautiful fresh delicious juices whenever you want them
Disadvantages: Expensive, smaller than some
...There is really nothing quite like the taste and smell of really fresh juice. I?m not talking about that insipid pasteurised stuff in cartons, I mean the living pure energy freshly extracted from ripe, organic, bursting with goodness fruits and vegetables ? it?s quite unbeatable!
I decided to invest in a new juicer this year, to support my new healthier lifestyle and reward myself for what I had achieved so far. I knew I wanted to replace my old centrifugal juicer with one of the newer masticating ones, so before I settled on my Samson I had a good look at what was on offer? this was to be a long term, big ticket purchase from a very crowded and diverse marketplace? I needed to choose something I could and would use every day, as there are no health benefits to be gained by gadgets sitting in the back of a cupboard!

Crossing the DVD Rubicon
Advantages: It can't tape Emmerdale.
Disadvantages: It can't tape anything at all.
..., during the meanwhilst I could have read the manual...(ROTFL)...as if!
I have to say I am impressed by the remote control. Eight-and-a-half inches of chunky plastic capable of pleasuring me in an awesome multitude of ways. And it came with batteries included too!
Oh, I'm so sorry, I've started to sound like Jonathan Ross.
Technophobes probably wont enjoy DVD. The first time I watched a film I put the director's commentary on - until I realised he was going to talk over the whole film - tried to switch it off, got confused negotiating the on-screen menus (different for every disc) and ended up with Arabic subtitles. Eventually I found a button on the remote to switch them off. There's probably a button on there somewhere that brings about world peace.
Getting a DVD is like crossing the Rubicon - you can never go back.
I saw a film I...

Beware of the Stinklers
Advantages: Quiet location, pretty views, All inclusive
Disadvantages: Busy,
...We arrived at the Rubicon Palace around 10pm at night and from the bus it looked very impressive. Walking in through the doors the reception is to your right hand side. We were checked in very quickly and efficiently and our upgrade to All Inclusive was very smooth. Within around 10 minutes we were walked to our room with a staff member who was very informative about when the pool bar opened and closed. There is a safe in the room which costs 30? for 2 weeks with a 6? deposit. Towels can also be hired for 10? and cost 50 cents to change them.
Walking in to our room we were more than happy with the 2 double beds and chair bed. My in-laws room had a king-size bed and a fold away bed. Although we should have had a garden view and some people would have complained we had a very nice view of the sea and the walk to the beach and could...

2004 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
Advantages: Convertable that goes anywhere and everywhere.
Disadvantages: Storage and Cargo space are minimal.
...I purchase my Wrangler Rubicon in December of 2003. A year later I'm still as excited about it as I was the day I drove it off the lot. Here in Colorado, USA, there are plenty of 4x4 trails to challenge this "extreme rock crawler." My Wrangler has done nearly half of the 200+ passes in Colorado already, with no problems. And my Wrangler has all original stock parts with no modification. The Rubicon model comes with larger tires, a heavy duty transfer case, skid plates, and air lockers, front and rear, from the factory.
The on road handling is the most amazing thing about this vehicle. Jeeps are famous for their off road capability, and also for riding rough and being top heavy in the curves, but my Wrangler is surprisingly stable and smooth. The 7 speaker stereo system with a sub woofer and CD drowns out any road noise from...
