...The Digimax has now come down in price to around £100 (Curreys were selling it for £150, but dropped the price to £95 without a quibble when I told them I could get it elsewhere for that) Picture quality is fine but the flash is less than brilliant. The camera is very light dependant, takes great pictures in good light (100ASA rating), but it's decidedly iffy in poor light. The flash has a very limited range, get too close and it's whiteout, too far away and you don't notice it was switced on - stated range is 1.3 -2 metres which aint much! Picture resolution is 1024X758 which is good and daylight photography works fine, but 'candid' indoor photography is a bit more tricky. The camera takes a 3.3v smart card and a 16MB one (2MB supplied) will store around 120 pictures. (NB Jessops own brand card is ~ £20 for 8MB)... Read review

...I bought the Samsung Digimax 800k digital camera as I was a complete beginner in digital photography and wanted to get a general idea of what it is all about without spending too much money. I have had the camera nearly a year and am very impressed with it. By today's standards the resolution (which determines the picture sharpness) is very low, however the picture quality from the Digimax suggests a much higher resolution. This makes it ideal for taking photos to send by email and for posting on web-pages. If you intend to use your digital camera mainly for printing photos from your PC, you would be better off spending a lot more money on a higher-spec camera (and photo-quality printer), but the Digimax gives reasonable results with an ordinary printer on ordinary paper (as long as you don't want to frame them!) ...Having had one of these great little cameras for just under a year now, I'm happy to say it definitely lived up to it's billing. I paid just over £100 for it in April 2005 and it was worth it at that price, let alone the £75ish you can get it for now! The picture quality is great, provided you use the right settings. For the non-technical minded among you; don't worry, this is very easy. The circular button on the rear lets you shuffle between flash settings (red eye and OFF being very useful, I find) and time delays for self-portraits, while the dial around the lens switches between normal mode and close-up. Battery life is above average but not brilliant, although I use normal AA batteries when lithium batteries (as recommended by Samsung) lasted much longer when I tried them. ...This camera was a birthday present from my husband last June. It was bought as an upgrade from a Kodak EZ 200 digital camera. I had a budget of £100 and I was looking for camera with a higher resolution, an LCD viewer and a flash. I consulted my technical advisor (the daughter) and after considering several models she suggested the Samsung Digimax 201. It had all the features I was looking for and at £105.99 from a local photographic shop, it was only slightly over budget. When I first opened the box I did wonder if I would cope after the simplicity of the Kodak, which, despite it's lack of features, took surprisingly good pictures. However, my fears were unfounded as the camera has proven easy to use. I spent about an hour reading the instruction manual to familiarise myself with the menu system. Anyone already familiar... ...of something which is out of site and then check the LCD to see what is happening. The software on the PC is very easy to use. Just plug in the camera and Digimax Viewer automatically leads you through the process. The only "problem" I have is that MGI photo-suite beats the Samsung DIgimax Viewer to it and takes over with Digimax viewer popping up haveway through the process to have a go too!... Read review

Advantages: An excellent Compact camera with a large screen
Disadvantages: Uses batteries far too quickly, which is very expensive and frustrating!

...I got this camera from Argos and it cost about £100. I also got a free memory card and some vouchers for photo printing. That offer, I am fairly certain was exclusive to Argos at the time. The camera is compact and easy to use. It has a video function which also records sound. It also comes with a USB cable to upload photos and videos to the pc, along with software. The large screen is an asset and is very useful when taking photos and looking back at your images. I would say it is the largest screen I have seen on a camera so compact. I will not go into all the technical stuff, as it is all included on this site, but the fuctions menu is easy to navigate and fairly self-explainatory. Advantages: Stylish Lighweight and very small
Disadvantages: When using zoom picture looks awful

...My first impressions of this camera is how Stylish, Lightweight and small it is. The Camera its self as lots of features, its got 5.0mp, 5x digital zoom, 2.0 colour ftf montior, superb 6cm macro and 9 photo frames. It takes about 2 1/2 hours to charge the battery up from dead which i think is pretty impresive. The Camera came with a nice leather case, User manual, Camera Strap, Lithuian Battery, Battery Charger and the Software Cd. Included on the software cd is Digimax Viewer 2.1, Digimax Reader and Photo Impression 4. The Photo Impression 4 Software is really good and really easy to use, you can adjust your photos and even get rid of red eye. The Menu Navigation button on the Camera takes you round all the features and really is easy to use. The only disadvantage i have of this camera is that when you zoom in the picture quality... ...The Digimax 800 was bundled with my new PC so I didn't reckon it much to start with. Using it for the first time on holiday in Thailand I was really surprised by the ease with which it took pictures in some really varied situations and, when I downloaded onto the hotel computer I was mostly impressed with the quality of the images. OK, so the sharpness leaves a bit to be desired and, sometimes, the focus isn't quite right (probably down to my own ineptitude in using the autofocus which depends on the old 'hold the button half down' method) but, all in all I got over 60 images (on the 8mg chip)that were good enough for viewing on the PC and for emailing friends. The Digimax is, probaly, about the cheapest digital on the market with any resolution and I think that it makes an ideal introduction to the digital 'scene' without too much... Read review

...A superb budget camera for the £100 mark. I have previously owned several budget cameras with zoom etc, but have allways found other brands to have very poor picrure quality. This is not true for the Samsung. There are several available modes on the camera such as Night mode, video and audio recording as well as 'Myset' shich allows you to customise the settings to your taste and manual operation. Video recording in 640x480 at 30fps is impressive with just a 256Mb SD card, you could take approx 2-3 mins of video or around 500-700 photos dependant on settings. The sound quality produces on video clips is good. Pictures taken are of very high quality, with 3x zoom you can get close to the action, but the digital zoom is not up to scratch producing very noisy images.
