Samsung RSH1DBMH Fridge Freezer
Advantages: Loads of space in fridge, great ice and water dispenser, not too big
Disadvantages: Not a huge capacity in freezer
...I have always wanted one of these american style fridge freezers but never had the room until we moved into our new house. Actually it does not take up as much room as I thought it would and it is a great centre piece to the kitchen.
This fridge freezer is on wheels so although you'd think it was difficult to move it really isn't, I can move it easily!
The ice and water facilities are fantastic. You have to have it plumbed into the mains pipe which my husband, who is certainly not a plumber, managed with ease! We did have to buy a little tap to fit it to the pipe but that was only a few pounds compared to what you would have to pay a plumber! You simply put the tap to the pipe and screw, it pierces the pipe then you can attach the hose supplied with the fridge freezer! This means you never have to fill up the water or make ice...

Beko A - Rated Frost Free Fridge/Freezer is "Bekonomical"
Advantages: Price, size, drinks dispenser
Disadvantages: week freezer drawer fronts, thermostat position
...Early Frost free freezers were a tad unreliable and overpriced, not any more though as most owners of this capable unit will agree, I have had my one for about 18 months and so far so good.
It's about 6' tall and 2' wide (fridge at top), with a safety lockable water dispenser (that hasn't dripped yet) and both doors open from the left but can be reversed following the instructions given, the freezer is frost free so no more messy defrosting to do, the fridge is auto defrost (defrosted water drains through the fridge to a compartment on top of the motor and evaporates).
The fridge part is quite roomy with 2 salad drawers (glass shelf over), bottle holder (removable) and two adjustable shelves in differing depths, it has a 10 egg holder and storage in the door for 2 x 4 pint milk bottles (2L bottles fit better), and other containers...

Frost Free??
Advantages: it has a large capacity fridge and freezer, easy to use
Disadvantages: very heavy, iced up even though its frost free
...( we use 6 pint cartons ).
The freezer is very large and you dont need to maintain it much, but you do need to switch it off approximately once a year to get rid of any ice buildup , yes - it does say frost free at the top , but in the time we have had it , it has needed to be switched off for 24 hours on two occasions.
There is a handy tray for ice cubes etc. or you can take this out to get more room in the top drawer of the freezer (very handy for the christmas turkey). The drawers are smooth to open and close plus easily removed for cleaning.
This model does not have the ability to control the temperature and there is no way of knowing what the exact temperature is , unless you have a very good thermometer.
All in all, this is a good piece of kit to have in your kitchen. It is not so big that it wouldn't fit in...

Frost free's hidden benefits
Advantages: No frost, no defrosting, stops your bread snapping.
Disadvantages: Expensive to buy
...Ok frost free appliances are more expensive to start off with and they cost a little more to run but they do have some definite advantages.
Not watching your storage space disappear inch by inch is one of them.
So is not having to eat everything in the freezer in order to defrost it.
Being able to close the top compartment flap without the ice getting in the way is another.
But how about frozen bread. You only want three or four slices but when you try and pull them off the rest of the loaf they snap in half. Not with our frost free they don't.
And frozen veg. By the time you get two thirds of the way through the pack the bag is half full of stale frozen water. Not with the frost free.
Frost free appliances work by removing the moisture from the air, so there's no water left to turn to ice. Bear this in mind when you make your...

Hotpoint Fridge/Freezer FFS90
Advantages: Nice and big
Disadvantages: Faulty thermostat
...Once we finally got this new model, which we had to wait over two months for, we found it really nice as it was nice and big, bigger than all the other fridge/freezer that we had seen. We thought that this machine was going to last us quite a few years. All you have to do is plug it in and just get on with your life.
We have now had this fridge/freezer for 16 months. We had the engineer back within the first year 5 times as the thing stopped working, then the fridge started to thaw out and then started freezing, yes the fridge. We put a thermometer in there to check the fridge, and it went up to 10degrees C and down to -3 degrees C. We have now had the engineer out so many times now and we have lost count. We want either a new fridge or our money back. Hotpoint have said that if we pay another £198 we could have another one to...

Our first combined fridge freezer
Advantages: Good capacity for small family, no frost or condensation on interior walls.
Disadvantages: Freezer compartments quite tight for large items like pizza's etc
...too tightly! The shelving is quite flexible, with two full shelves and two half shelves, one of which we removed as we like to have a fairly large jug of water stood in the fridge, which couldn't be accomodated with all the shelves in place.
The cooling system is all hidden and therefore there is no frost/condensation on the back wall. Everything is done via cold air flow which is directed via seperate outlets into each shelf position. The cooler boxes for salads and vegetables have adjustable ventilation and they keep things very fresh we've found.
The freezer has three drawers and an ice cube maker section. This was quite nifty - essentially it is two trays for ice cubes in a rack with dials at the front, turning the dials turns over the trays and flexes them slightly, causing the ice cubes to fall out into the collection...

Cool Fridge
Advantages: Good versatile space
Disadvantages: bit large
...Potential (ODP) but it is flammable. In addition to the fridge having the best economy rating available there is also an economy button which sets the fridge to 6oC and the freezer to -17oC which are the units optimal settings. There is a boost setting for when you put fresh stuff into the freezer and there is a vacation setting which turns the fridge off and keeps the freezer going for when you are on holiday. The current temperature is displayed on a digital panel at the top of the unit, this is where all the other buttons are too. I’m not too sure it’s such a good idea but they also have a power switch on the panel, I my opinion it’s probably best to keep that out of reach so it can’t be knocked off accidentally. It’s also frost free which is apparently (according to the lovely Comet salesmen) very unusual...

Samsung Fridge Freezer
Advantages: Large fridge space for drinks, veg, salads etc
Disadvantages: A bit noisy now and again
...This fridge-freezer is the best I have ever purchased. Once left to stand for 24 hours, it was turned on and the power cool was used. As the temperature inside the fridge freezer reduced, the digital display showed the actual temperature and the temperature that was required, so you could be positively sure when it was ok to use. In less than a few hours the fridge and freezer were cool enough to be used. The fridge compartment has a very large amount of space that can store anything from a few 2 litre bottles, to cans, vegetables, ham/cheese drawers, salad drawers that keep the salad crisp and fresh, and also the shelves can be used at half of their size or they can be pulled out to their full size. As you have to have this fridge freezer plumbed into the water mains in order to use the ice maker, I have not done this yet so it is being...

NOT a Frost Free Freezer
Advantages: Frost Free
Disadvantages: Space, Drawers, Reliability
...One of the selling points of this freezer is that it is frost free, and this was a very desirable feature because the one we had previously, needed defrosting constantly, 2 or 3 times a year. Which takes a lot of effort and a long time. So it was a welcomed feature in our house.
After having the freezer for around 3 months, having no problems with it previously, it started to freeze up. There was ice running down the front of all the drawers, and every time one was opened, you had to snap through the ice on the front. Now that doesn't really seem frost free to me? This was a regular occurance, happening every day. Fortunately with most appliances/products like that there is usually a warranty or guarantee that protects you against things like that happening - faulty products and breakages. Our freezer was obviously a faulty product...

Design fault ruins Samsung fridge freezer
Advantages: Lovely big fridge, on tap chilled water and cubed or crushed ice, no frost freezer
Disadvantages: Serious design fault means that you'll probably be replacing it within 5 years.
...that had formed around the fridge's cooling elements. He removed the ice with a hair dryer. It was all well and good, and then 3 weeks later the same problem came back. He tested everything and could find no fault and fair play to him, didn't charge us for this visit.
Now it's 3 weeks on and although there is no noise from the fan the display shows the fridge temperature varying anywhere from 5C to 16C.
I have read other reports on the web and the problems we seem to be having with our fridge appear to be very common with Samsung fridges. So we've decided to get rid of it before someone in our house gets food poisoning.
Pros - Lovely big fridge, on tap chilled water and cubed or crushed ice, freezer is frost free.
Cons - Expensive Samsung water filters, no real child lock, no alarm when temperature rises, freezer not nearly so...
