Bring your picnic on a hazy summer's evening ...
Review of Hampstead Heath (London) by Natalie

Advantages: Something for everything
Disadvantages: A bad reputation

...Hampstead Heath's 790-acres is a sprawling expanse of open grass, woods, meadows, hills and heathland all tucked away in North London. It is one of the most famous commons, and commands a fine view of London. Some of the Heath has such fine views of the metropolis that they are legally protected. The park also contains two bathing ponds, one for men and one for women. Hampstead Heath is also home to Kenwood House, a magnificent Georgian building, used in many historic film shoots, and home to a stunning collection of paintings and furniture. The bowl beneath Kenwood House is the venue for several summer musical concerts, mostly classical or jazz, which are great to attend, armed with picnic and wine.... Read review

My Top Ten
Review of 10 Best-looking Celebrities by Raychella

Advantages: They are hot!
Disadvantages: They aren't mine!

.../only role I have seen him in was when he played Aaron Samuels in the movie Mean Girls. As he has pretty much starred in TV shows since! 5) Zac Efron - After recently seeing High School Musical I thought he was quite hot, I haven't seen Hairspray, but I have seen the trailer and I prefer the hair in High School Musical!!! 6) Chad Michael Murray - I had seen a few episodes of One Tree Hill but I mainly saw him in the movie Freaky Friday! 7) Daniel Craig - Our latest James Bond, I didn't like him at first, then he kinda grew on me!! He has a great body! 8) Michael Owen - He's quite cute, one of the best, I find, looking footballers. I would have had Christiano Ronaldo on the list but I find Michael Owen looks more 'mature', well as mature as footballers can be! 9) Dougie Poynter - I think once again he is quite cute. One quarter of Mcfly... Read review

Black Country Bugle
Review of The Black Country Bugle by Martinscholes

Advantages: Covers the history of the Black Country
Disadvantages: None

...in newspaper format and on newsprint paper, so for all intents and purposes it is a newspaper. The only difference is that if it happened yesterday, the Black Country Bugle is not in the slightest bit interested! However, if your item of news occurred -say- 30 or 40 years ago or perhaps 100 years ago, then there does stand a very good chance that the Black Country Bugle will be interested in publishing it. Providing, of course, that it took place within the Black Country! It was founded in 1972 and is published by Staffordshire Newspapers Limited. Why Stafford Newspapers? The Black Country transcends county boundaries. Part of the Black Country is in Staffordshire whilst part of it is in Worcestershire. There are sporting stories from the past. The issue dated 8 September 2005 carries stories on the Samuel Taylor's cricket team for 1963... Read review

North London Wallabies
Review of Golders Hill Park (London) by womble

Advantages: more to do for children, animals, free entrance
Disadvantages: not quite as easy to get to if you don't know the area

...Golders Hill Park, or the Hampstead Heath Extension, is a relatively large park (although not when compared to the Heath itself, unsurprisingly), which is more Golders Green than Hampstead and a lot more 'manageable' than the Heath. It isn't the kind of park you can get lost in (unlike the Heath which I manage to get lost in, almost every time I go!). It is certainly more of a 'landscaped' park than the Heath, it has a little flower garden, and some rock gardens as well as a lake with requisite ducks and geese, which of course, require feeding regularly from local children. The piece-de-resistance however, is the small collection of animals. At the far end of the park there is a mini zoo, really. Well, it is a very mini zoo, I wouldn't like anyone to get the wrong idea! There is a very large enclosure with different types of deer... Read review

The most expensive road in the UK
Review of Hampstead Heath (London) by gideon

Advantages: Beautiful surroundings, fantastic park, lovely ponds
Disadvantages: None - unless you are a snob!!

...Hampstead is split up into two sections.Hampstead Garden Suburb which is very residential area and Hampstead where all the shops, history and gorgeous parks, heaths and old stately houses are. To see the later just get off at Hampstead Northern Line Underground station or get a British rail train to Hampstead Heath. A little about Hampstead Garden suburb -------------------------------------- This is probably one of the most expensive and well-kept areas in London. Fences and brick walls are disallowed because they spoil the look and feel of the areas. Hedges, trees and grass verges are everywhere. All the houses are very well kept, some overlooking the Hampstead Heath extension (a very famous park)others with one or two acre gardens (in London where space is a premium this is rare) The most expensive road is Bishops Avenue where... A great k-night in!
Review of A Knight's Tale DVD by Luvlylana

Advantages: Comedic, great value
Disadvantages: Perhaps a tad long

...I was lucky enough to pick up this DVD at a car boot sale at a local school, for the grand total of £1. The fact that someone was willing to practically give away the film I thought did not really bode well, but it turned out I got a complete bargain! A Knight's Tale is a charming, comedic tale inspired by "The Canterbury Tales". It tells of a peasant squire (played by the late Heath Ledger) who passes himself off as a knight to take part in a jousting tournament, and win the affections of a fair maiden. Not wanting to give too much away, all I will say is that he partakes in a number of jousting and sword tournaments, earning friends, enemies and romance along the way. One of the first things that hit me was the superb soundtrack that accompanied the film. For one thing, I never expected a film about the middle ages to have... Read review

a knights tale
Review of A Knight's Tale (Wide Screen) by jo_field26

Advantages: heath is the best
Disadvantages: n/a

...Being a Heath Ledger fan i watched this film over and over again, unfortunately this was one of the last films that Heath will star in after his early death which is a great shame to the film industry. In this film Heath Ledger is William Thatcher, a peasant who passes himself off as a Knight, Sir Ulrich of Liechtenstein to enter into a jousting competition, along the way he makes new friends in Wat played by Alan Tudyk, Roland played by Mark Addy and Geoffrey Chaucer played by Paul Bettany. Count Adhemar is one of his competitors and stands in his way to victory. Along the way William falls on love with Jocelyn, whom he attempts to win the heart of, along with a few other twists as well as William being found out that he is a fraud as he is not as noble birth, he is only the son of a thatcher. But in the end the two rivals go head... Read review

Heath a Hero
Review of A Knight's Tale (Wide Screen) by horseshoe86

Advantages: Heath, Horses, Boy meets girl, comedy etc
Disadvantages: erm......

...I'll have to admit before writing this that I have quite a large soft spot for Mr Heath Ledger who happens to play the main character in this film so in my opinion that already makes the film a hit for me!! This film has a good story line involving several different aspects to attract different audiences. Theres a 'boy meets girl' type story line, a 'good vs evil' story line, along with an action storyline and suspense 'will he wont he be caught'? Also the involvement of horses in the plot obviously is an attraction for me, although a horse falls over in one scene and even after seeing the film several times i still flinch! Heath Ledger plays william and Lord Alrich Von Lichtenstien, one and the same character which can only be fully understood when watching the film. William decieves the world into believeing he is a knight, but does... Read review

Xone:32 Review
Review of Allen & Heath Xone 32 Mixer by benaldo3333

Advantages: Sound quality, build
Disadvantages: Channel gains on the back of the unit, only 3 channels

...This review is based on my experiences with the Xone:32. It is not an in depth look at its specification as this is readily available from the Allen & heath website. I bought this mixer about a year or so ago and it has been a faithful companion to me since It arrived on my doorstep. I bought it for £427 from djstore.com. This review is a comparison between the major sub-£500 mixers available on the market. Pro's The reputation that this mixer has gained throughout the dj world is a story in itself and it was this which drew me to it in the first place. Allen & Heath have a reputation of building the best mixers in the world - this is certainly the case after trying it out. Firstly, you will be hard pushed to find a mixer which sounds better than any of the Xone series. The sound is unbelievable even through budget speakers - you... Read review

Torn between 2 loves
Review of Stately Pursuits - Katie Fforde by vk-dream

Advantages: Captivates your emotions
Disadvantages: Leaves you wanting more

...Stately Pursuits “Delicious … gorgeous humour” ~ Sunday Times The last thing Hetty was expecting to find upon her arrival at Alistair’s cottage was her boyfriend wrapped around another woman; little did Hetty know that this shock discovery would catapult her life into a totally new and wonderful direction. Whilst taking time to sort out her life Hetty takes up temporary residence in her Uncle Samuel’s home – Courtbridge House whilst he is in hospital awaiting surgery, her role is to maintain the house but to her surprise this isn’t going to be half as easy as she thought. Samuel’s closest relative Connor – Conan the Barbarian as she likes to refer to him makes Hetty’s life harder with his shock arrival at the manor, alas his bad mood swings and even worse attitude towards Hetty’s efforts are the least of her worries. With a lot... Read review
