SUN, SEA, SANGRIA "SAN ANTONIO BAY IBIZA"

Some of you may have even been there, it has had a lot of bad publicity over the years, which has encouraged more and more younger people to go, and by so doing has put quite a lot of families and older people off, Please don?t let all you hear put you off of such a beautiful place. I am not actually talking about San Antonio Town, where all the night life, famous night clubs, like Es Paradise where they are open all night and have water parties, or Eden which is another favourite of the youngsters, No I?m talking about the bay, about a mile around the bend from all this, or 10 mins across the water by boat. Hotel Tropical - Ibiza, San Antonio

Advantages: Great Location, Clean, Nice Rooms, Half Board Hotel
Disadvantages: Expect Noise - 18-30 hotel

Groundhog Day in San Antonio

Advantages: Great city, plenty to do, see and eat
Disadvantages: Go in season

...Remember the Alamo? Your not kidding, I couldn?t forget it. I walked past it at the same time every morning and night for a week - and a couple of times more for good measure. Not that I should, or want, to paint San Antonio in a bad picture - far from it, its my favourite North American city. Its just a week is perhaps a little too long off season. I will explain. We decided to take our trip to the States (a week in San Antonio for sightseeing and then a few days in Florida to top up the tan) for the first week in November. The reason - the flights are miles cheaper than October. The reason for this - most America's tourism seems to shut down on the night of October the 31st. I would love for the sake of my hands and your eyes to make this a quick review but this just wouldn?t do San Antonio justice - so lets crack on in with this...

Ibiza Rediscovered .... Puerto San Miguel

Advantages: Relaxed, quiet, beautiful surroudings.
Disadvantages: Captive market in local shops and bars meant high prices - you need a car.

Don't go if you like to sleep a lot

Advantages: Good location, cheap food/drinks, good facilities, nice pool
Disadvantages: Very noisy

...Cheap no frills hotel catering for the 18-30 crowd. Brisa is used mainly by British tourists and is NOT family friendly due to the constant noise, music and swearing! Saying that the whole resort of San Antonio is not family friendly so it's no wonder that very few hotels here cater for families. The hotel is conveniently located about a 15 minute walk from the west end where most of the bars and shops are and also equal distance from the more upmarket (and expensive) sunset strip of bars and restaurants (Cafe Del Mar, Mambo etc). It is situated in a residential area and is about a 20 minute drive from the airport. The surrounding area is pretty quiet but the hotel itself is not! The noise would have to be my main criticism of this hotel - it was constant. Whether it's the music pumping out from the poolside bar or the shouting...

San Antonio - the graveyard season

Advantages: Family friendly, cheap, cheerful

...had patter and banter skills that would leave a double-glazing salesman green with envy. We were determined not to buy but my wife bought a brilliant leather backpack after knocking the price down to 25 quid from 60 quid. It was of excellent quality too!!!! Although our young chap was too young for the children?s facilities, from what I saw and heard the travel reps did a great job organising activities from 10, in the morning, until 9 at night. In fact, it was so good I think that many of the adults would have loved to join in. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the adult excursions. We took one overpriced trip (18 Euros) to the Hippy Market. Due to the various hotel pick-ups it took an hour to get out of San Antonio and we were then treated to a Spanglais tourist commentary, which made Manuel, from Fawlty Towers, akin to...

There is an Ibiza for all tastes

Advantages: Ibiza town and the coves
Disadvantages: San Antonio and the macro clubs

...I lived in Spain for nearly 18 years (in Valencia) and frequently visited Ibiza and feel in a priviledged position to share my views . There are many types of ibiza. There is the club crazy Ibiza for the young and flush. There is the unbearable San Antonio with its Fish and Chips, cheap drinks and the worst sort of tourist, there is the classy Ibiza town with its yachts in the port, its UNESCO protected old town with its restaurants and bars but always classy. There is the Ibiza of coves with wonderous little restaurants and bars on the beach and there is the inland hippy Ibiza with some truly outstanding little boutique hotels and where the likes of Roman Polanski have their holiday homes. Education, Ibiza style.

Advantages: It's an Education
Disadvantages: I still dont live there

...at me complaining about a mere 80-hour week, but then the coup-de-grasse is the wage. Appropriately named 'basic wage' of a hefty £70 per week, or 88p an hour, are not exactly footballers wages. If you multiply the average working week over a 7 month long Summer Season, I was probably working for a total of about 6 1/2 months. I slept every other Monday. It is because of all this that I know Ibiza so well. And it is in spite of this that I still have great fondness for the Island that still has areas that even I haven't seen yet, notwithstanding the fact that since leaving the island in November 2003, I've been back on 5 separate occasions. If all the White Isle had to offer was San Antonio and 24 Hour parties, I probably would have left after my first week. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of partying - I can party with the best...

Ibiza Uncovered.

Advantages: sun, sea, sand, relax or be lively. Reasonably priced holidays.
Disadvantages: none

...like to stay in for a week or so. We went on the sunset strip tour to San Antonio, this was fantastic. I would definately recommend anyone to try Ibiza whether it is the lively part of Ibiza or the quieter islands where we stayed....
