...I visited San Diego last October due to a work meeting. As it was such a long way to travel I thought it would be a good idea to add on a few days holiday to explore the area with a friend who was coming along. Getting There There are direct flights to San Diego from London however at the time these were three times as expensive as a fare with stopovers in the US and with a friend coming I wanted our flights to be as cheap as possible. Our flights went from Heathrow to Washington where we changed planes for a flight to Chicago and then another change for a plane to LA, where we got our final plane to San Diego. This may seem too much for some, but for me it was great as the plane changing gave me a chance to stretch my legs. I think I would have found 13 hours cooped up in a plane too much! San Diego

Advantages: Friendly, warm
Disadvantages:

...San Diego is a fantastic holiday destination. It is warm and sunny but as it is on the coast there are cooling sea breezes. The people are all friendly and there is fantastic shopping centre. The buildings are all painted in bright colours as the town used to be owned by Mexico. A place that must be visited is Balboa Park which has museums in it (some of which can be free on particular days) and also San Diego zoo. The park itself is lovely to walk around and has tress from all over the world. Another must is old town. This is a place with shops and restaurants which are in 'old style'. It has a mexican feel and is very relaxing. Basically San Diego is a must!...

SUN, SEA AND SAN DIEGO

Advantages: a lovely way to start a fly drive holiday
Disadvantages: The flight from the U.K. is approximately 11 hours

...San Diego is well worth a visit but in my opinion 5 days is enough time to enjoy the attractions it offers. The weather is sunny but not too hot as being a coastal town the ocean is never too far away. There are many attractions and the best way to view them is to take a “Trolley bus” tour. These can usually be organised at your hotel. It costs around $20 or approx £14. It is a whole day tour, which is very professionally directed. Your tour host guides you through the town and informs you of many historical facts relating to it. You can get off at any time to explore the area you are in as the trolley’s run regularly. Sea World is a wonderful day out for the family, Shamu the whale is worth going to see alone. There are many shows by the animals all included in the entry price. You can even feed...

San Diego - Mission Beach explained

Advantages: The place where lifestyles are created

...A couple of years back I decided to push off for Christmas with a buddy and backpack some of the Stated. First stop was LA, but after discovering rather rapidly that it was a hole, in fact a hole that needs to be filled in, we jumped on a greyhound and a couple of hours later we arrived in Downtown San Diego. San Diego is everything LA is not, it's clean, the downtown area was well lit with non threatening people. Prior to leaving LA we had booked ourselves into the Banana Bungalow (BB) in the Northern costal resort of Mission Beach. BB is a hostel right on the beach with a beautiful and large deck out the back where you can just kick back and enjoy the view. ...When I was on a recent business trip to San Diego, and not having much time to have a look around I decided that the best way to see some of the town was on the trolley tour. Old Town Trolley Tours has provided sightseeing tours since 1989, and they try to highlight the best of San Diego. I Got on the trolley at the Old Town having bought my ticket from Barbie at one of the stalls. The ticket was $32 and with this I got information about the trolley ride and the stops, and discount tickets for restaurants. The trolleys themselves run on a circuit and if you were to just sit on the trolley and not get off, then the whole circuit would take about 2 hours. I had already looked at the Old Town , and when I had a look through the various stops, it was easy to decide where I wanted to hop on and hop off. The trolleys are actually small...

Love Handles??? Handle This On Honeymoon!!!

Of course we decided on the much more luxurious Westin St Francis to start off our honeymoon trip but when we were informed in Thomas Cook that there was one in San Diego, we were more than happy to give it a go. So that's 4 girlie girls aged between 18 & 20. Nightmare!!!
