Where we stayed Having researched extensively we decided to stay in the Gas Lamp quarter in downtown San Diego as this has the vast majority of restaurants and shops and also has good transport links to and from the airport. We stayed in a hotel called the Gas Lamp Plaza Suites and I thought the service there was excellent. The rooms were basically mini apartments and contained a double bed, sofa (which can be turned into a sofa bed), television with cable, a small kitchen with a microwave but no other cooking facilities, and an ensuite bathroom. San Diego

Advantages: Friendly, warm

...San Diego is a fantastic holiday destination. It is warm and sunny but as it is on the coast there are cooling sea breezes. The people are all friendly and there is fantastic shopping centre. The buildings are all painted in bright colours as the town used to be owned by Mexico. A place that must be visited is Balboa Park which has museums in it (some of which can be free on particular days) and also San Diego zoo. The park itself is lovely to walk around and has tress from all over the world. Another must is old town. This is a place with shops and restaurants which are in 'old style'. It has a mexican feel and is very relaxing. Basically San Diego is a must!...

Love Handles??? Handle This On Honeymoon!!!

******THE SUN ALWAYS SHINE IN SALOU******

Advantages: Excellent value for money, brilliant location & good sized rooms

..., but that is a small price to pay for peace of mind that your holiday is going to run smoothly. At first I looked through a lot of self catering complexes that would have totalled about £80 each but the reviews I read were not encouraging to say the least & none had air conditioning so I looked for hotels instead & came across the San Diego. After reading the reviews & from the pictures I saw the San Diego seemed a very tempting hotel & once I saw the price I as sold. We paid £599.13 for 7 nights half board for four people. Which works out at roughly £150 for the week & about £21 per night. How cheap is that? So altogether out holiday cost £180 each. HOTEL SAN DIEGO The hotel San Diego was built in 1973 & renovated in 2003 which to be honest sounds like an old hotel but you would never tell it wasn't in anyway different from a hotel...

Advantages: a lovely way to start a fly drive holiday

...San Diego is well worth a visit but in my opinion 5 days is enough time to enjoy the attractions it offers. The weather is sunny but not too hot as being a coastal town the ocean is never too far away. There are many attractions and the best way to view them is to take a “Trolley bus” tour. These can usually be organised at your hotel. It costs around $20 or approx £14. It is a whole day tour, which is very professionally directed. Your tour host guides you through the town and informs you of many historical facts relating to it. You can get off at any time to explore the area you are in as the trolley’s run regularly. Sea World is a wonderful day out for the family, Shamu the whale is worth going to see alone. There are many shows by the animals all included in the entry price. You can even feed...

A San Frantastic Boutique Hotel

Advantages: The price, the location, the staff, the rooms, everything

...adorable and has a great location in town. I can't really flaw it. There are other hotels in the Joie De Vivre company within San Francisco too, so they may also be worth looking into to, but of the few we browsed over, none seemed so 'individual' and cute as this one. Like I said, they have cheaper options, and that makes me even happier that we can come back (making sure we book more in advance) and pay less! San Diego - Mission Beach explained

...A couple of years back I decided to push off for Christmas with a buddy and backpack some of the Stated. First stop was LA, but after discovering rather rapidly that it was a hole, in fact a hole that needs to be filled in, we jumped on a greyhound and a couple of hours later we arrived in Downtown San Diego. San Diego is everything LA is not, it's clean, the downtown area was well lit with non threatening people. Prior to leaving LA we had booked ourselves into the Banana Bungalow (BB) in the Northern costal resort of Mission Beach. BB is a hostel right on the beach with a beautiful and large deck out the back where you can just kick back and enjoy the view. After settling in (staff were way friendly) we decided to explore the local area. Misison Beach is very much a residential resort that is making the most of its beach...

Embassy Suites

...(although I didn't use the latter). The staff are really friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. There is a small shop selling essentials next to reception and anything bought here can be added to your room bill. Internet access can be bought through HiltonH for $24.95 for three days usage, so not too expensive and handy if you need internet access. Breakfasts are good, and if eating in the hotel at night, the portions are huge, quickly served and good value. The area is very quiet at night, so not the place if you want to sample the night life of San Diego, but there is a good shopping centre with some nice designer shops.
