IF YOU'RE GOING TO SAN FRANCISICO...
Advantages: Amazing and versitile city
Disadvantages: That l had to come back to reality - boo hoo
...I love California, to be precise, San Francisco. We are just back from a fantastic week there from the 11th to 18th September. There was amazing weather even though l was warned by everyone that SF is notorious for being cold and foggy. To be honest l saw fog once - on our first morning there l woke up to find the most amazing dense fog l have ever saw in my life ? but this disappeared by lunch into a glorious day.
So San Francisco, in Northern California, set on a bay ? a more laid back yet cosmopolitan city you could not find. It is a very tolerant city ? renowned for its gay quarter in Castro and back in the 60?s was a haven for hippies and beatniks. What l did notice and found quite disconcerting was the numbers of homeless on the streets. When l was in New York l didn?t see any street people, having been told the city had...

The Westin St Francis Hotel. San Francisco
Advantages: Nice hotel
Disadvantages: Bad staff
...If you have heard the expression "Meet me by the clock" spoken by an American, it derives from the famous St Francis hotel in San Francisco with the huge Magenta grandfather clock in the foyer.
It was built in 1904 and opened to much fan fare. It originally had just 2 tower blocks, providing luxorious accomodation to the rich and famous. It has since been extended with an extra front tower that matches the building as well as an ugly high rise tower block to the rear that does not fit in.
Several famous guests have stayed there over the years and led to some controversy.
During the 1920's Fatty Arbuckle stayed there. Friends with Charlie Chaplin and other Silent film performers, the larger than life man was accused of killing a young woman in his suite during a drunken party.
It has also been the resting place of Robert...

The Streets of San Francisco
Advantages: saves money, time, hassle
Disadvantages: some confusion over the Alcatraz tour
...If anyone is thinking of visiting San Francisco then I have a tip which will save you money in an otherwise expensive city and help you do the things tourists want to do as easily as possible. My tip is that you buy a Citypass ticket at the first tourist attraction listed below.
This ticket gives you unlimited city travel by bus, streetcar or the famous cablecars for 7 consecutive days from the date of first use as well as admission to 5 main attractions including Alcatraz. Another major feature is that there is no further time wasted waiting in queues to buy more tickets.
The other attractions included on the ticket are: the Exploratorium, the California Academy of Sciences, the Palace of the Legion of Honor, and the SF Museum of Modern Art.
There are a number of points to bear in mind when buying a Citypass and using it...

Quick tour of San Francisco!
Advantages: Got to see alot in a short space of time
Disadvantages: Slightly expensive. Mostly on the bus
...Gray Line San Francisco Sightseeing
This Gray Line San Francisco sightseeing tour lasts approximately three and half-hours. It will take you around different sights and areas of interest in San Francisco. They depart daily at 9.15am, 11.15am and 2.15pm.
It costs in American dollars $44 (adult), $22 (child) and $42 (seniors over 60). To give you an idea of the current exchange rate 1 United States Dollar is equal to approximately 0.61 British pounds.
We booked out tour in out hotel, which included a transfer bus to our tour. The tour started in Fisherman's Wharf, which we drove through seeing the unique little restaurants, which was buzzing with people. Then we drove through Chinatown and the financial district.
A short stop at Mission Dolores was next where we stopped for food. It was a Catholic mission church, which you...

I left my heart in San Francisco.
Advantages: Amazing city, friendly people and so much to see.
Disadvantages: That I couldn't have stayed longer!
...San Francisco is a wonderful city, with everything you expect and more from such a well-known cosmopolitan city.
I was extremely lucky enough to visit during the Easter holidays, and went on a tour starting in San Francisco, to Los Angeles and Las Vegas. It was an amazing experience, and I am so grateful that I had the chance to visit these amazing cities. Out of the 3, I think San Francisco was my favourite, what with it being the most amazingly relaxed city, and getting the right balance between keeping it's history and original charm, and introducing a modern element, with so much to see and do.
I didn't go to sleep the night I was leaving Swansea, at 2 in the morning. I was going to get the bus to Heathrow airport. We flew with British Airways direct to San Francisco, and despite the plane journey being somewhat of a nightmare...

Exploring the streets of San Francisco...
Advantages: beautiful scenery, quaint city, heavily multi-cultural
Disadvantages: can get very busy, expensive
...This is definately one of the nicest cities in the World but i was suprised tio find that temperatures rarely exceed the 70s and can drop much lower! It is also home to one of the greatest landmarks in California; the golden Gate Bridge. San Francisco has been described by many as America's most photogenic city and its compact size makes it easiest to explore in spite of all those hills! Even though the sites overlooking the city are breathtaking, earthquakes figure prominently in the city's history. In 1906 a disasterous earthquake hit San Francisco, it destroyed many buildings and killed many people. The worst damage it did was to the Bay Bridge as it had 2 major roads, one on the top and one on the bottom. The top part collapsed onto the bottom part! It was interesting to see that after many years San Francisco had got back on track...

San Francisco- most beautiful place in the world
Advantages: Beautiful! clean, friendly people and easy to get around
Disadvantages: none.. apart from crazy taxi drivers!
...but it was opposite our hotel!
San Francisco is by far and away the most beautiful city I have ever visited and had the pleasure to be in. I hope this will inspire you to visit one day.
After our 3 days we were able to get a non-stop flight from San Francisco to JFK for $90 total with American Airlines so we both felt we had had a cheap and very memorable time in San Francisco, California....

Hitchcock's San Francisco Hideaway
Advantages: Excellent value for money, great location
Disadvantages: Old fashioned style
...Just got back from a lovely holiday in San Francisco where we stayed at the York Hotel at 940 Sutter Street, just 4 blocks from the central Union Square area and only 2 blocks from the major transport stops at Powell Street.
History:
Built in the 1920s, the hotel still has many of its original features, including Bakerlite electrical fittings and ceramic solid baths. It also has a history. If you're a Hitchcock film fan you'll love the fact that Vertigo was filmed here and you will spot the square white hotel staircase used in the film as James Stewart suffers an attack of Vertigo. Also perseved are two of the rooms associated with the film (rooms 301 and 501, also referred to as the Vertigo Room and the Kim Novak room respectively) both of which can be rented for an additional cost and contain posters and photos taken from...

The Dakota hotel: cheap hotel in the heart of San Francisco
Advantages: Cheap, clean and location, location, location!
Disadvantages: old-fashioned, elevator from hell
...you have your own facilities and breakfast! Should you stay for a longer period of time, the hotel offers cheaper rates still. Just make sure you explicitly mention you want to take advantage of these rates, as the owner certainly won't give you these out of the goodness of his heart.
Conclusion
The Dakota hotel will not win any beauty awards, but for the budget-conscious or adventurous traveller, it is a good place to stay in San Francisco. Just be careful that the elevator doesn't eat you!
To have a virtual look around the street of the Dakota hostel, look at:

~SF...Surprisingly Fabulous Summer Fun~
Advantages: A very tourist-friendly metropolitan area
Disadvantages: None, except that you really have to stay longer
...(Note: My 2nd month anniversary & my purple dot first review)
DURING MY THIRD VISIT to the US last summer, I was able to stay longer (for almost 4 weeks) and visited some part of California State. San Francisco is one of them for the very first time. A month prior to my departure from Britain, I contacted my friend working in San Francisco with an IT firm if I could stay at his place during my short visit. Being a close friend and the godfather of his only daughter, he did not hesitate to answer 'yes' to my request. So, my accommodation for few days at the city is completely ok except that I will be travelling from my cousin's place in Menifee (one hour away from San Diego by car) to Los Angeles, and then finally from San Fernando Valley to SF.
To save some dollars during my trip, I decided to travel by bus (Greyhound) which took...
