It's a mall, nothing more, nothing less
Review of San Francisco Center (San Francisco) by  lagrpa00

Advantages: Nice structure, good selection of stores, centrally located
Disadvantages: Parking is tough, nothing uniquely San Francisco

...I've lived in San Francisco for the past 4 years and have made many a trip to the San Francisco Shopping Center in downtown SF. Let me tell you, it's nice, but it's only a mall. First off, San Francisco Shopping Center is located in downtown San Francisco, on Market street right across from the Powell St. cablecar turnaround. Needless to say, this brings in a lot of visitors to SF, as well as a good number of locals. The place can get pretty crowded on weekends and some weeknights, but always manages to stay fairly easy to get around. The mall is an eight-floor piece of work, with the top floors being occupied by Nordstrom. The remaining four floors are highlighted by a mixture of stores, everything from J.Crew to Victoria's Secret, Abercrombie & Fitch to Foot Locker. While the stores have a nice range of variety, there's nothing... Read review

San Frantastic
Review of San Francisco in general by  paulspears

Advantages: Lots to do!
Disadvantages: can be unsuitable for disabled people!

...Well I spent 3 weeks in san Francisco and to be honest spent the best 3 weeks of my life in the most beautiful and modern city in the world! Firstly, the city has a cultural inspiration for all people and a wide range of entertainments, foods and shops to suit all tastes! The city itself is so 'user friendly' that it is virtually impossible to get lost when each road is clearly accesable to any other road. DOwntown San Francisco is known world wide for its famous trams taking you up the very steep streets which are present in San Fran! the city has so many places to visit such as Alkatraz, the sanfrancisco museum and much, much more which all adds intrest for holiday goers worldwide!... San Fran baby!
Review of San Francisco (California) by  aspo

Advantages: Brilliant place, lots to do
Disadvantages: expensive, walking up the hills!

...San Francisco is the most amazing place i've ever been to, all the hills, Pier 32, Fishermans wharf. The ques for the trams are well worththe wait for the experience. The Golden Gate is a site not to miss. San Francisco has its own climate, completly different to the rest of california. I thought i was back home in england when i felt the weather! Unfortunately we couldn't get over to alcatraz as all the tickets had sold out. The motels is San Fran are quite expensive, but well worth it. It also well worth battling the winds to go to the pier to see the sealions, and alsoto walk down the curly road, with the gorgeous houses on! There is also Union square for shopping which is brilliant! A place not to miss!... Read review

The city that definately does not sleep
Review of San Francisco (California) by  sarah_stitch

Advantages: many restaurants/clubs/shops variety is the spice of life
Disadvantages: very very hilly

...San Francisco - What a wonderful place Commuting - My choice of transport to and from the city has to be via a ferry from Larkspur (near San Rafael) across the bay, past San Quentin Prison, with amazing views of the surrounding area including Alcatraz. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes each way. You arrive at the ferry terminal (clock tower) within walking distance of Market Street (main shopping area), to reach fishermans Wharf or Pier 39 it is probably best to catch the bus. Although on occasions you may be offered a rick-shaw ride or even a limo ride for a small fee. (The limo ride depending on who it is with is occasionally cheaper than catching the bus). Eating in San Francisco can be a wonderful experience, the variety of restaurants is unbelievable, try as many different restaurants as you can. The night life... Read review

San Francisco, a cosmopolitan wonder
Review of San Francisco in general by  BlueAngel

Advantages: Friendly, Cosmopolitan, Varied
Disadvantages: Can't think of any

...My wife to be and I were going to get married in Hawaii and decided to go to Los Angeles and Las Vegas beforehand. Our friends told us Los Angeles was not that nice and we should try San Francisco. We were so glad we followed their advice. San Francisco is a very warm and inviting city. You never seem to get that edgy feeling that can be felt in some big American cities. San Francisco is so cosmopolitan you could wear anything down the street and noone would look twice. The hotels all seem to be quite tidy and friendly. The pubs and clubs are superb and the eating is out of this world, especially if you like your seafood. The attractions are varied and on the whole very enjoyable. Alcatraz, or The Rock, as it's known, was interesting and awesome to see close up. Pier 39 was a normal touristy trap with the San Fran seals... Read review

Grab the cheesecake!!
Review of Macy´s (San Francisco) by  chezza1310

Advantages: The Cheesecake Factory's a must
Disadvantages: On 2 sides of the street, a little disruptive

...Macy's San Francisco had been recommended to me by a friend. On a recent visit to the wonderful place that is San Francisco I decided to visit and see what all the fuss was about. Macy's is situated in The Union Square part of San Francisco. It is easy to find and see. Most of the departments are in the main building -the men's department is across the street in a separate building, still easy to get to. Macy's is full of clothing, cosmetics and pretty much anything you might need to buy. They have designer names, Luis Vuitton just to name one. It's pretty much like any other department store anywhere in the world - nothing too special to report. My main reason for visiting was the Cheesecake Factory - this is situated by the restaurant on the top floor. You can get in the lift at the entrance to the building and go straight up... Gorgeous Scenery
Review of Highway 1 (California) by  mls

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...Highway 1 goes down the west coast of California. We drove it from near the Oregon border to San Francisco. It's very slow, but the views are just incredible. We stopped countless times to look over the cliffs or walk on the beach or to look for seals. We saw seals playing three times, and it was great! There are a lot of beautiful little towns all along the highway, but watch out because they are extremely expensive. The only problem we had was just before San Francisco the fog rolled in and we could barely see the end of the bonnet. It was very unnerving to crawl along almost blind on a 1000 foot cliff road.... If You're Going...
Review of San Francisco (California) by  JRW

Advantages: Lots to do, scenery
Disadvantages: Climate too cool for sun seekers

...“If you’re going, to San Francisco”. Yeah, yeah – I know you know the song. Anyway, should you be going to San Francisco? – That is the real question. San Francisco, featured in films such as The Rock, looks to be one of the most famous and beautiful cities in the world. Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge are some of the city’s best know attractions and allow you to see whether they measure up to that television footage you recently saw. In terms of activities, there’s plenty to do in San Francisco. Take the thirty-nine mile drive in your car which will take you round the city and show you the sights – best of all it’s signposted so you probably won’t end up getting lost. You can tour the bay and its other bridges – such as the Oakland Bay Bridges – if you’re a bridge kind of person. When I visited the city there was a large science... Read review

Exploring the streets of San Francisco...
Review of San Francisco (California) by  smilerutd

Advantages: beautiful scenery, quaint city, heavily multi-cultural
Disadvantages: can get very busy, expensive

...This is definately one of the nicest cities in the World but i was suprised tio find that temperatures rarely exceed the 70s and can drop much lower! It is also home to one of the greatest landmarks in California; the golden Gate Bridge. San Francisco has been described by many as America's most photogenic city and its compact size makes it easiest to explore in spite of all those hills! Even though the sites overlooking the city are breathtaking, earthquakes figure prominently in the city's history. In 1906 a disasterous earthquake hit San Francisco, it destroyed many buildings and killed many people. The worst damage it did was to the Bay Bridge as it had 2 major roads, one on the top and one on the bottom. The top part collapsed onto the bottom part! It was interesting to see that after many years San Francisco had got back on track... Read review

Nice addition to the mix
Review of Getting around in San Francisco by  lagrpa00

Advantages: Historical, cheap, great way to travel between neighborhoods.
Disadvantages: None!

...Having lived in San Francisco for the past 4 years as an undergrad college student, I have had the privilege of riding every kind of public transportation the city has to offer. The San Francisco Streetcars are (in my opinion) one of those things that the locals know about and the tourists don't quite know how to classify or see why they're there. From a functionality angle, the SF Streetcars are pretty simple...they're electric cars that travel along grooves in the street along Market Street (the main street in downtown San Francisco) from the Ferry Building up into the Castro and beyond, depending on the destination. It's really a great way to make your way between the two neighborhoods while enjoying some history at the same time. They're kind of like busses, except for the historical aspect. The City has been purchasing streetcars... Read review
