San Jose

Advantages: Good night life, relaxed.
Disadvantages: Crime, not much culture.

...I lived In Costa Rica for 6 years and I spent most of my time in the capital, San jose, which is what I am writing about now. The city itslef is quite small for a capital city but it makes it easyto navigate (up to a point!!). San Jose is located right in the middle of the country in what is called the 'central valley' although it isn't actually a valley. The airport is in the north west of the city, actually outside San Jose. Actually most of the decent hotels are outside the center too. I cannot really recommend and as I have not really used one but I did stay in the Hampton Inn once and it was fine. Taxis Use them, they are cheap. A 30 minute drive could set you back the enourmous cost of £1.20!! They are red with a yellow triangle on the door. They are official but there are pirates around. Don't use them is my...

The Beautiful Girl and the Penis Bowl

Advantages: Good weather. And some different ice creams.
Disadvantages: Not much else

......now there's a fairytale title you never hear. I like city breaks, I really do. Thus, I decided to tag a few days in San Jose onto the beginning and end of my Costa Rican tour. In total I spent 6 nights there, but only really 4 days due to flight times and travelling towards Arenal and back from the beach. This is still about 3 and a half days more than most people told me I would need, but I ignored them nonetheless, convinced that any capital city would have a fair few things to keep me entertained. GETTING THERE AND AROUND I arrived at 1am into San Jose airport which is about half an hour and $20 (US) from the centre. At that time of night it took us only half that time, though I would have happily spent a little longer on the roads in exchange for Mr "Authorised Airport Taxi" Man not running all the red lights. At that...

A beautifull walk near San Jose Spain

Advantages: Beautiful
Disadvantages: you really need a car

...A pretty cove and a beautiful walk near San José Spain We went on holiday to San José in Almeria Spain this Easter hols. This is a description of one of the best bays/beaches we found and a good coastal walk. We used the tourist hiking map Capo de Gata-Nijar (1:50.000 same scale as an standard OS map here) which we bought from the tourist information in San José, it comes with an accompanying book about the routes marked on the map. It also contained information about camping, apartments and other local information in Spanish. Dearly beloved can read some Spanish and I found I could follow a lot of the instructions fairly simply, you may be able to get an English copy. I will check this out .We found this a very good map and guide I would certainly recommend it. One morning we set out in our hire car, with a loaf of bread, some...

a small city but a lively city

Advantages: restaurant, views
Disadvantages: crime

...San Jose is a wonderful place, great scenery and lots of colour. There are many attractions. My personal favourite was the La Paz Waterfall gardens. It?s a series of trails through the forest to the waterfall. Lots of greenery, and very refreshing walking through the forest. The waterfall is a great place to take your pictures. There is also an orchid garden and a butterfly garden. I didn?t quite like the orchid gardens, but the butterfly garden was amazing. I never really noticed how many different types of butterflys there were, and how colourful they are. But, just to let you know, it can be slightly annoying, as the butterflys are constantly flying over your head. If you?re lucky you may get to see butterfly eggs. There is an admission fee. The average lunch will cost about £5 in one of the large cafeteria style restaurant...

Sunny San Diego

Advantages: Gorgeous scenery, sunshine
Disadvantages: transport links

...I visited San Diego last October due to a work meeting. As it was such a long way to travel I thought it would be a good idea to add on a few days holiday to explore the area with a friend who was coming along. Getting There There are direct flights to San Diego from London however at the time these were three times as expensive as a fare with stopovers in the US and with a friend coming I wanted our flights to be as cheap as possible. Our flights went from Heathrow to Washington where we changed planes for a flight to Chicago and then another change for a plane to LA, where we got our final plane to San Diego. This may seem too much for some, but for me it was great as the plane changing gave me a chance to stretch my legs. I think I would have found 13 hours cooped up in a plane too much! One thing I did ensure was that the route...

A San Frantastic Boutique Hotel

Advantages: The price, the location, the staff, the rooms, everything
Disadvantages: ...our shower was like needles

...Introduction: So, we're stuck in Albuquerque, and have pretty much seen about as much desert as we can take. We've 'done' all there is to do. With a spare weekend on our hands, we decided to take advantage of our Geographical positioning and take a trip to somewhere on the west coast. I've always wanted to see San Francisco, and after looking into flights, we found some bargains. So off we go. We looked for reasonable hotels, and came across The Petite Auberge, it wasn't the cheapest we found, but it had an appealing charm that won us over, so we booked. Company info: The Petite Auberge is part of the Joie De Vivre chain, I found this information on their website: "Joie de Vivre Hotels is California's largest boutique hotel company. Started in San Francisco in 1987 by Chip Conley, while in his mid-twenties, Joie de...

The discreet charm of the Casa San Blas

Advantages: A five-star stay?
Disadvantages: ?with just three-star facilities

...simplicity often trumps ritzy ostentation. Attentive service matters, but nothing is nastier than the kind of smarmy obsequiousness that always seems to mask a sneer. And so on. Maybe it's simply down to that indefinable essence known as character or personality. These inconsequential musings are prompted by my trying to pinpoint what it was about the Casa San Blas at Cusco that I liked so much. The hotel is certainly not without its limitations and even its failings, but it's a nevertheless a charming and delightful place to stay. Let's try to summarise what it has to offer. * Location * The Casa San Blas is situated just a few minutes' walk from Cusco's Plaza de Armas (central square), and is therefore convenient for all the main sights of the ancient Inca capital, such as the Qorikancha (Sun Temple), the Cathedral...

GTA San Andreas: The Ultimate RPG?

Advantages: Entertaining; challenging; gripping; enjoyable
Disadvantages: Likely to offend if taken too seriously

...Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the eighth game in the GTA series, and the third of the current 3D format. It follows Vice City, and fans of this game will note several references throughout San Andreas, most notably the reappearances of Ken Rosenberg and of Kent Paul (Danny Dyer), who for San Andreas have added Macca (Shaun Ryder) to their line-up. Allusions are also made to GTA III and GTA: Liberty City. San Andreas is the last game in the GTA III spin-off series. The game begins in the fictional town of Los Santos, in the early 1990s. You are Carl Johnson, AKA CJ, a young man with a troubled background who ran away to Liberty City after his younger brother was killed, who returns to his home following the murder of his mother, caught up in gang violence, in order to attend her funeral. Upon his return to the town he is immediately...

San Andreas

Advantages: Massive Game, Great Graphics
Disadvantages:

...GTA San Andreas Well this is the next great game in the series of GTA. It is so much bigger and better than the one before it. It allows for so much more interaction in the game. Now being able to do things such as going to the gym and play games etc it is just beyond all other gaming experiences. I have found that the game is just totally massive there are three different islands which are all huge. I've had the game for over a year and still seem to be finding things to do. The main aim of the game is to get respect. You can do this by completing missions and advancing in the game. Another way in which to get respect would be to have great stamina and muscles etc. The game has so much detail involved it's quite incredible. You start off at the beginning of the game trying to find your way home on a bicycle; this is the very...

San Miguel!

Advantages: reasonable strength, refreshing, tasty, cheap.
Disadvantages: not for repeated consumption.

...San Miguel Premium is a very tasty lager beer thats got a really sweet, refreshing aftertaste that is great for the cash. If you fancy a bit of a change, it is definitely worth a try. Like any alcohol, it is best enjoyed in moderation. However this one moreso, as it starts to get a little bit sickly after the third or fourth pint. It is something to drink between different beers, if not on its own. -- Definitely not something you can drink all night. Its best to buy in a supermarket as it is disproportionately cheaper than in a pub. It is available in ASDA and TESCO in both cans and bottles. It is thirst-quenching and best served chilled and is often enjoyed in hot climates. As the name may have led you to believe, it is very popular in Spain and is the strongest export of Spanish Beer. 4%. ABV. Summary: A fine Spanish Beer...
