...Yes, another Venice review...Probably my last one though... Okay...Saint Mark's Basilica (Basilica di San Marco) was built in 1071, and is in Venice, at St Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco). The square can be hard to find, or very easy, depending on how good you are at navigating the streets (needless to say, we had a bit of a struggle!) Even though the basilica is enormous, I couldn't see it at all until we stumbled straight onto St Mark's Square, where it suddenly leaps out on you, dominating the place. If ever you go to Venice I would strongly recommend a trip to St Marks Square, as this building is probably one of the most amazing you will ever see. The thing that struck me first of all was the sheer colossal size of it. It is toweringly tall, and extemely wide, I have never seen anything like it. I was expecting to see...

...PIAZZA SAN MARCO. is like falling in love with a Beautiful Woman, when with her you can not stay long enough, when away you can not wait to return to her. You may speak to people who have only visited her on a Day trip, they will probably have not been impressed. They will only have seen her in the company of thousands. To see the Piazza at its best and Romantic you must Visit her late at night with your wife, husband, lover or just a friend. The sqaure seems to be your own, so beautifully lit. Which really highlights the shape of the square. When you enter from the Grand Canal DO NOT WALK BETWEEN the two columns, in the past you only passed between when being sent for execution. ...Now I don't want you to go thinking that I make a habit of eating frozen pizza. In an ideal world I'd spend hours every day, painstakingly hand-chopping the ingredients of gazpacho, stirring polenta non-stop with a wooden spoon for 45 minutes, and beating eggs and olive oil to make a simply divine aioli, But, that said, instant pizza has its place: a) when you have an eight-year-old who won't eat anything that might possibly have grown in the ground at some stage, and b) when you just can't be arsed. San Marco pizzas are made by Heinz, the baked bean and ketchup folk. They don't make a virtue of this fact. This is because they want you to think this pizza is Italian. And Heinz sounds a bit, well, German, doesn't it? I hate marketing. I hate the way it insults your intelligence by calling a pizza 'San Marco' when it's made...

A little taste of Italy?

Advantages: Tasty frozen pizza, easy to cook
Disadvantages: The ham isn't too nice on the Napoli

...Last night was the first New Year that both of our kids have been old enough to stay up (and awake!) to see the new year in so we decided to put together a little buffet for midnight and make it a bit more special for them. We've still got so many biccies and chocolates left from Christmas that it was easy enough to throw them in a bowl to pick at but I couldn't decide what to do for something savoury. I popped round to Kwik Save just before they closed yesterday for a few bits and pieces and noticed the San Marco pizzas were on offer at 99p each. Problem solved. A BIT OF SPICE?

...San Marco Pizza We went out for a wee run in the car today and ended up in somerfields shop in Denny. I go there when they have special deals on. They had cans of soft drinks on special but I had a wee look to see what else and I found San Marco Pizza. Now Ross would happily live on Pizza but I like to make what his Dad calls a decent meal most of the time (mince and tatties and steak pie etc) As I said they were on special. The usually sell for £2.09p but it was a BOGOF, I don’t know about you but I always think things taste much better if you get it at a bargain price The box is roughly an 8 inch square Green and red with San Marco on the front and a picture of a nice tasty looking pizza dripping with cheese. A San Frantastic Boutique Hotel

Advantages: The price, the location, the staff, the rooms, everything
Disadvantages: ...our shower was like needles

...adorable and has a great location in town. I can't really flaw it. There are other hotels in the Joie De Vivre company within San Francisco too, so they may also be worth looking into to, but of the few we browsed over, none seemed so 'individual' and cute as this one. Like I said, they have cheaper options, and that makes me even happier that we can come back (making sure we book more in advance) and pay less! As it was such a long way to travel I thought it would be a good idea to add on a few days holiday to explore the area with a friend who was coming along. Getting There There are direct flights to San Diego from London however at the time these were three times as expensive as a fare with stopovers in the US and with a friend coming I wanted our flights to be as cheap as possible. Our flights went from Heathrow to Washington where we changed planes for a flight to Chicago and then another change for a plane to LA, where we got our final plane to San Diego. This may seem too much for some, but for me it was great as the plane changing gave me a chance to stretch my legs. I think I would have found 13 hours cooped up in a plane too much!
