Well, it can only be because of Ferrari and the obsession that their fans have with F1 racing, that gets Italy two races every year. Imola is of course not in San Marino, as the whole country is only 24 square miles they would probably have difficulty even finding space for a race track in the mountainous countryside. Imola is about 50 miles from San Marino in Italy, about 20 miles from Bologna. The circuit has existed for about 50 years and has a number of names in it’s history and is now known as “Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari”. ...I visited San Diego last October due to a work meeting. As it was such a long way to travel I thought it would be a good idea to add on a few days holiday to explore the area with a friend who was coming along. Getting There There are direct flights to San Diego from London however at the time these were three times as expensive as a fare with stopovers in the US and with a friend coming I wanted our flights to be as cheap as possible. Our flights went from Heathrow to Washington where we changed planes for a flight to Chicago and then another change for a plane to LA, where we got our final plane to San Diego. This may seem too much for some, but for me it was great as the plane changing gave me a chance to stretch my legs. I think I would have found 13 hours cooped up in a plane too much! ...The Imola,San Marino circuit like Monza has an illustrious and ancient history but unlike Monza has only a relatively short history of Formula I racing. The very first Formula I race took place at Imola in 1963 with an untitled race won by the legendary Scottish driver, the great Jim Clark, in a Lotus 25. A San Frantastic Boutique Hotel

...The Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari to give Imola it's official name is located in the tiny principality of San Marino in the north east of Italy. To be fair this really is the second Italian Grand Prix of the season, the main event being hosted at Monza. So the tifosi (Ferrari fans) are even more in evidence here than at the other races and Ferrari always try especially hard at the venue. The track itself has been sanitised in the name of safety since the tragedy of 1994 when two drivers were killed. Ayrton Senna died when his car left the track at the 170mph Tamburello corner and ploughed into an armco barrier. Roland Ratzenburger died on the previous day in practise.
