(2007 'Barroom Blues') (41:35/11)Available again!!!!! Honestly, retro blues has been boring me. Once a synonym for down-to-earth, honest blues with respect for the traditions, 'retro' today more or less means lame, uninspired reproductions of original 1950s urban blues (notably from Chicago or Memphis). This has been my opinion until: NOW. As I am writing this, San Pedro Slim's second CD is spinning. And WOW! This is one of the finest (traditional style) albums I have heard in a long, long while. Produced by the one-and-only, Rick Holmstrom, Slim has recorded a blistering set of his own tunes. He wrote all the songs and he has drawn the 'real life' illustrations (reminding me of Charles Buckowski's novels). Holmstrom plays some of the meanest guitars, ever recorded. Slim's a solid vocalist and accomplished harp player. With its 'brutal' sounds, the title tarck alone is worth the money. This CD is a must-have for all fans of straight-ahead, no-nonsense blues from westcoast. If you are digging James Harman, or Rod Piazza you will love this guy! San Pedro de Atacama Region at 1:350,000/1:50,000 in a series of contoured, GPS compatible trekking and exploration maps at various scales form Trekkingchile. The maps are annotated with tourist information and most titles include a street plan of the region's main town. Many are illustrated with drawings of local fauna or flora. All the maps use satellite imagery as a base, with contour lines and colouring to indicate different types of terrain and habitats. Unless indicated to the contrary in the individual descriptions, the maps have a UTM grid, plus margin ticks for latitude and longitude. Map legends and other text include English. The map, with cartography prepared by the Technical University of Dresden, has much finer cartography than other titles in this series. The main map has contours at 100m intervals, with graphics/colouring to show both soil cover and vegetation. Road network indicates 4WD tracks and local paths; railway lines are included and local airports are marked. Symbols show campsites, viewpoints, geysers, mines, etc., with locations of interest prominently highlighted. Topographic information extends to the adjoining area of Bolivia, but without the tourist overprint. The map has a UTM grid, plus margin ticks for latitude and longitude at 30'. On the reverse the area around San Pedro de Atacama is shown in greater detail, enlarged to 1:50,000. Also included is a street plan of the town annotated with various facilities and places of interest. The map also includes numerous advertisements for local tourist facilities with text in English and/or German.

..."It all seems like yesterday not far away" or so Madonna sang anyway in 'La Isla Bonita'. For me it all seems like 3 weeks ago, and so I decided, to get busy writing up my experiences of my honeymoon in Belize.
The reason for the Madonna quote, if you were wondering, is that, just off Belize is the island which inspired Madonna's song, Ambergris Caye (home of San Pedro), and it is in places...
Advantages: friendly staf and extensive breakfast Disadvantages: not the best location
...When we went to Lisbon we stayed at the hotel Dom Pedro palace. From the outside the hotel looks very modern and luxurious but the inside is a different story. The inside screams almost classic Mediterranean and is tastefully decorated. The lobby itself is a bit boring when you first walk in but luckily that improves when you enter the rest of the hotel.
Checking in went easy and the only thing...
Advantages: Beautiful Disadvantages: tourists found it!
...San Pedro, in the natural park of the Cabo de Gata, along the Costa de Almeria, in Andalusia, was such an exceptional place that I kept it to myself for over 15 years! But the inevitable has happened, and people will always talk about good things, which has lead to a profound and sad change of this, what used to be, paradise on earth!
